Artists are now Charging Extra for Proof of Work

Got some criticism lately for not commissioning enough anymore, now that I make my own AI images.

Costs like this aside, as a major reason commissioning interests me less. Now this artist is going to charge 10% extra if you want any proof they're actually working or if you want to make sure they didn't make a mistake.

my Scrapyard Wars inspired "Steam Machine Slayer"

Okay, slayer is a strong word. Even the Steam Machines integrated graphics should put perform the RX580 in this. But we're clocking in at half the price. And it's a low end AM4 system, so there's massive room for upgrading.

The primary use case of this machine is a media center PC anyway, it's main job is to play video and run party games. Adding the RX580 is probably overkill for my plans with it, but there was a $50 listing on Facebook; I figured its worth it to open up the playable games field massively.

Also inspired by LTT, I'm trying Linux, specifically CachyOS with it. It's been a perfectly smooth experience, and a good fit for a low end media PC.

Full parts list and pricing on second image. Unlisted, I also threw in a 500GB harddrive I had lying around for extra storage.

Perhaps we Judged Northernlion's shape rotation skills too harshly...

Maybe he's not so bad with it after all.

Big Win for AI Today

“The scope of protection for a photographic work is generally limited to the choice of image composition, perspective, lighting, and the sharpness or blur achieved through the correct combination of aperture and exposure time,” the court ruled. “The subject matter and motif are generally not eligible for protection.”

My Chipotle came with 3 forks for no reason

Ordered a single burrito and picked it up at the drive thru.

Not a bowl, not multiple things that might indicate having a big sit down meal.

As you can see, it has the sealing sticker, so I did get it at the drive thru and didn't go inside where i could grab forks.

Technically can still be untrustworthy, because no way to know I don't just keep Chipotle plastic forms at home; and just took them out of the drawer for the photo.

Made a Handy chart for Weighing the Steam Machine

Decided to procrastinate on other things I should be doing and made this instead.

Attempted to make things as apples to apples as possible, but of course it gets vague when approaching custom silicon. There's of course lots of considerations that wouldn't fit on a small chart like this.

The laptops referenced for this are some Lenovo offerings. The DIY PCs were configured with PC part picker. So keep in mind the laptop products might leave the store at some point and the DIY parts might go out of stock. I only used parts that were in stock rn though.

imo, Steam Machine is DoA. If you need something small and portable, a laptop clears. If size doesn't matter, you can actually make a pretty solid PC these days despite price increases. There's even $300 extra bucks in the budget to go with a RTX 5070 or 9070 XT. Or you could use it for more RAM, better CPU, higher end mobo, or more storage.

Is there a way to filter out "Not Owned" content from the Module browser?

Been a couple years since I used Foundry last, and there's now a ton more modules and tons of them are paid offers now. Used to be I could just scroll through everything, but its too much now.

The only options for filtering are installed/not installed/all which is not enough. Is there some way to access more filtering options?

And if not, could we get it added to a to-do list? It seems important now that there's 4600+ modules, and a lot are unusable unless you make a 3rd party purchase.

Truer Words Never Spoken

As much as the antis love to say "As soon as your product uses AI, I assume it's slop."

I think the opposite. If you have to claim your product doesn't use AI, it shows you don't have anything better to say about it.

Why not talk about the gameplay? The immersion? The style? Instead the best they've got is "At least we're not that other thing."

New Dle just dropped

Okay, probably not actually a dle because it gives you 100 questions which is probably too much for a guy like NL to do daily. But it would be a good one-off.

Its called VocabOwl, it gives you 100 words of increasing difficulty to define out of 4 options. Then uses your hit rate per category, weighted, to estimate how many words you know.

https://vocabowl-870366514258.us-west1.run.app/

In Grandmaster tier I basically had to guess the meaning of words based on their etymology.

Don't worry Isaac, I'm sure things will get better...

Her being passed out on the chair behind him for this shot was good timing though.

Why is no one talking about the most important thing??

Does good-guy Caine give them the ability to have sex? It was something Zooble wanted, after all. Is it beyond his power without the blue AI?

And if he does... Does he have to update their player models? Is it fair to make him go through that if it makes him uncomfortable? Or can all the characters just conjure the parts they need now on their own?

These are the real questions that need answered.

Hot Topic sells NL merch now?

I'm disappointed though, they were all out of "for a guy like me" shirts.

Lets Be 100% Honest Here

I'm not sure why people are becoming so entrenched over this, and why it's weirdly becoming a political thing. Its got nothing to do with politics, and is nothing to get so entrenched over to think there can't be some sort of middle ground.

I have no interest in killing Leviathans with a knife. I played the first game 3 times through and never felt inclined to do that. Most Leviathan class enemies were 100% avoidable.

However, I do want to be able to kill Nibblers. Stalker class enemies. They're swarming my base I built when there wasn't any near the location. I don't want to craft a distraction flare just to go outside.

They don't even hurt that much. It's not a "git gud" situation, they're just annoying. We just need some option to permanently remove them. It doesn't even have to be killing. Maybe a trap that they can get stuck in, then you can relocate them elsewhere?
