I stopped playing clash royale a few months ago in favor of brawl stars, which got rid of it's individual point system to upgrade brawlers a long time ago when they realized they had too many brawlers to rely on rng for players to upgrade them. Clash royale hit this point a long time ago but still this system. I remember Frank, the head of Brawl Stars, talking a few months ago on their Time To Explain podcast that their progression system was based on having choice of what to upgrade, and despite being controversial, I do agree. When I played clash royale, I was always locked into one deck after some point with little room to experiment but also little room to max the deck out. There's just so many cards nowadays that I think rng determining what you can upgrade is outdated, even if overall progression is slow.
