Student Id pictures? Los Angeles Pierce College

We can't take the student ID pictures on campus? It'll be my first student ID & I wanted a brand new photo for it ... (Not to use a driver's license or passport photo) .

Men who have dated women 15–25 years younger: What helped the connection feel balanced and genuine?

I’m 29F and have a first date coming up with a 49M. We’ve had some good conversations so far, and I’m looking forward to meeting him, but I haven’t dated someone with this large of an age gap before.

I’d especially like to hear from men around his age—or men who have dated women significantly younger. What has your experience typically been like? Were there differences in communication, lifestyle, energy, maturity, relationship expectations, or life stage that stood out to you?

I’m keeping things very open-ended because we haven’t even met in person yet. I’m not assuming this will become a relationship; I mainly want to enjoy the date, see whether we have genuine chemistry, and get to know each other naturally.

That said, if there is a mutual connection and we continue seeing each other, what are some things that help create a healthy, balanced dynamic between two people with a larger age gap? What helps you feel connected to a younger partner, and what makes the relationship feel like an equal partnership rather than one person taking on a “teacher,” “parent,” or overly dominant role?

I’m also curious: what do you personally appreciate from a younger woman when dating—emotionally, conversationally, or in terms of building a connection? And what are some green flags or red flags you think are important to notice early?

I’m open to positive, negative, or mixed experiences. I’m mainly looking for honest perspectives from men who have actually been in similar situations, while keeping in mind that every person and relationship is different.

Struggling with an old childhood memory and OCD making me question the meaning of it

I’m looking for perspective on something I’ve been stuck on.

I have OCD/anxiety, and an old childhood memory resurfaced a couple months ago after a random trigger. Since then, my brain has been treating it like a threat and replaying it over and over.

The memory is from when I was very young. I remember my dad being physically affectionate with me, and there was a moment where his hand was inside my waistband/near my butt while I was a child. My memory of it is that it was in an affectionate/casual context, not a secretive or sexual situation, and I do not remember any sexual comments or anything else happening.

The reason I’m struggling is that, as an adult looking back, the location of the contact feels uncomfortable and my OCD keeps asking, “What did that mean?” I keep wanting 100% certainty about something that happened a long time ago.

I’ve talked about it lightly with family before, and nothing new has come from those conversations. I’m trying to understand whether this sounds like a normal childhood affection/boundary issue that my adult brain is overanalyzing, or whether I’m missing something.

For anyone with OCD or experience with intrusive memories: how do you handle memories where you may never get complete certainty?

Guys, how would you interpret this interaction?

I wanted an outside perspective from men because I'm genuinely confused by this interaction.

I randomly DM'd a guy on Instagram because I liked his work. My account was private the entire time.

This is how the conversation went:

Me: "Hey there! Just want to say I think you're very gifted & I respect your craft! Stay blessed (:"

Him: "Your so sweet thank you"

(I simply liked his message instead of replying.)

About 1–2 hours later, he messaged me again.

Him: "What's your name?"

Me: "I'm (name). What about you? (:"

Him: "I am (name)"

Me: "Oh that's dope, like Heath bar. I guess we're both considered chocolate lol."

Him: "Lmao, that's what I say so people don't get my name mixed up with (name). Soo where are you from?"

Me: "I'm from the (place). You're in (place)?"

Him: I am in (place)

Me: Nice, what's it like out there? 😎

Him: "I absolutely love it. Weather is great year-round, the food is amazing, a lot of diversity, and there's always something new to do."

I didn't open his last message for about two hours because I got busy. When I came back, I checked his profile and it appeared blank (profile picture and username were still there, but everything else showed zero). The DM thread still shows his username.

If I was blocked, I'm honestly confused because he was the one asking questions and trying to get to know me, even though my account was private.

From a guy's perspective, is there anything in this conversation that would make you suddenly lose interest or block someone? Or does this seem like it was probably something unrelated to the conversation?

Does being an IHSS provider count as "Patient clinical experience" for PA/Med schools?

I've been an Ihss caregiver since 2021. Looking to go back to school while continuing to be a provider for my recipient & I'm wondering if I'll have to get a second job ontop of school if being a caregiver alone doesn't qualify as PCE?

Ranting about the financial outcome of pursuing nursing that alot of people won't address from what I've seen

I was in another sub & ranted about how pre-nursing & nursing students are financially taken advantage of. This has just been my observation as someone living in Los Angeles, CA & have been on the fence about pursuing nursing programs due to the financial outcome afterwards. Rant below:

These mills (career colleges/private nursing colleges) take advantage of the fact that no one wants to spend 2 years doing prerequisites (assuming they have to start from scratch, like myself) then another year or two on a waiting list for a nursing program, then two more years in the actual nursing program JUST to graduate with an associates. You end up spending like 5 years at community college alone , when them home bills don't want to give you more grace period longer than 30 days.

So they charge you $40k+ just to graduate with a nursing license , not even a degree.

You want a degree with faster entry? $80k+ for associates ... But hey , at least you won't have to spend a year or two on a waiting list.

They play these games & it's not morally right...

They claim there's a nursing shortage yet nursing schools have ridiculous requirements for prerequisite & admission 🎟️ criteria.

So , once graduates with either an LVN diploma or ADN degree just to have over $50k in loans when nurses are already being underpaid.

Not to mention, if you go to community college & just wait it out , you still waste half a decade before being able to work as a nurse.

I wish there were community colleges specifically dedicated to nursing. At least , more people could be accepted by the thousands rather than 1 community college only enrolling like 40 applicants per year.

Is an employer requesting a photo along with your resume considered "normal"?

Thought about getting a job at a medspa while in Nursing school , in order to get my foot in the door. I came across this medspa on Indeed that's near me & hiring for a receptionist position. To me , there were a couple of red flags along the way as I read the duties/requirements vs. the pay for the job. However, what stood out the most to me was seeing them requesting a photo along with your resume at the very end. I understand employers have a right to hire whoever they choose to & I have the option to look elsewhere for employment... But it just seems rather weird. Shouldn't a person's skills/background experience be all that's considered when applying for a job with a simple resume? Surely, you would see what the applicant looks like if you like their qualifications & decided to schedule them for an in person or virtual interview for further evaluation. It's giving selective discrimination... I've been really excited & interested in working at a medspa during nursing school. Now , I'm abit nervous that most of the other options near me will be like this ...

If RNs weren't always a thing that existed, who started patient IVs before the degree existed? If it was LVNs , then why are they no longer allowed to do that under their scope of practice in most states?

Esthetics vs LVN/RN in LA — need honest advice (28F, stuck between paths)?

Hi everyone, I need blunt advice because I’m really stuck between two career paths in Los Angeles.

I’m 28, currently a caregiver, trying to choose a realistic career that balances income, stability, and not putting myself into unnecessary debt/stress.

OPTION 1: Esthetician → Electrology → PMU

Esthetician school: 5–6 months

Cost: \~$11K–$15K

Total path with PMU + electrology: \~$26K–$30K

Goal: medspa / derm office / spa + eventually private clients + maybe my own business

Also interested in natural skincare products + wellness

Why I like it:

- Fast to start working

- I actually enjoy skincare/beauty/wellness

- Feels creative and aligned with me

- Less school stress (no prereq science sequence)

My concern:

- Everyone online says estheticians can’t find jobs or get stuck low pay

- Entry pay seems low/unstable at first

- Not sure if I’d actually make decent money in LA

OPTION 2: LVN → RN later

LVN program: 12–15 months

Cost: \~$31K–$35K+ (private schools in LA)

RN later (maybe 30-unit option or bridge route, or ADN eventually)

Why I like it:

- More stable career path

  • Higher earning potential

- Easier to get a “real job” after graduation

- Can eventually specialize (ex: derm nursing)

My concerns:

- I don’t want bedside hospital nursing

- Prerequisites for RN programs are overwhelming (bio, chem, A&P, micro, etc.)

- Debt feels heavy ($35K+)

- School + stress + environment feels draining

- Honestly feels like I’m forcing myself into it

What I’m struggling with:

Esthetics feels exciting, creative, fast, and aligned with my interests but unstable income early on.

Nursing feels stable, structured, higher pay ceiling but long, stressful, expensive, and not aligned with the lifestyle I want (hospital/bedside).

My real question:

Is esthetics + PMU + electrology actually a realistic way to make decent money in LA?

Or is LVN worth it even if I don’t want hospital nursing?

Can new estheticians realistically get medspa/derm jobs within 1–2 years?

What would YOU do in my position?

I’m really trying to avoid making a $30K+ mistake or choosing something I’ll regret.

25mg Sertraline with Mucinex interaction for Bronchitis

28F, 5'3 , 185lbs. No smoking or drinking.

Hi docs, I have a question about a medication interaction.

I’m currently taking sertraline 25 mg daily. I went to urgent care today for a likely viral illness/possible bronchitis (lungs sounded clear per NP, likely inflammation from a virus). They recommended Mucinex DM for my cough/mucus symptoms.

The product I bought contains:

- Dextromethorphan HBr 20 mg

- Guaifenesin 400 mg

I’ve read that dextromethorphan can interact with SSRIs and potentially increase serotonin levels. Is Mucinex DM generally considered okay with sertraline 25 mg, or would plain guaifenesin be a safer option?

No other medications besides sertraline. Thanks.
