A good evening combo

Tonight, after a long hard day at work, qi decided to read The Lord of the Rings, but not haphazardly

I sat in my brown leather armchair , I poured a pint of strong lager with golden shade, I filled my jaegerpipe with a personnal blend of french grey tobacco and Netherland Mixture with a hint of honey scent . The background music was the captivating melodies of the Prologue Album by Thangorodrim

I let myself be carried away through the foggy land of Tom Bombadil , savouring the words of illustrious professor Tolkien as I delighted in Dungeon Synth anthems, puffing from time to time the smooth aroma of tobacco and tasting the might of belgian lowland beer .

It was as if I was a hobbit leaving the Shire for good but ampreciating the hospitality of the mysterious master,  listening to timeless tales .

Lovecraft, l'affaire Charles Dexter Ward : quelle traduction

Merci

French Foreign Legion cigar - a smoke that tells a story

To kick off my career, I spent seven years in Aubagne, home to the famous French Foreign Legion.

The Legion, aside from its military exploits, notably produced a wine that I used to enjoy drinking in the company of General Leflem. More recently, they have turned their hand to olive oil – as one would expect in Provence. But even more recently, the Legion has begun selling its official cigars. What could be better than a Foreign Legion cigar to mark my departure from Aubagne?

In my new home in Tarascon, I am savouring this new chapter.

The taste of tobacco, of course, but also that of a perfectly roasted coffee and extra dark chocolate. And a body reminiscent of a rib of beef grilled in butter. I was expecting a rough-and-ready cigar, in keeping with the battalion’s well-deserved reputation, but on the contrary, it strikes a perfect balance between strength and smoothness, simplicity and complexity. As it develops, rich notes of butter and herbs emerge, with a finish reminiscent of allspice.

To accompany this treat, I naturally had a glass of “Ambre Noir” rum from Ferroni, a local distillery located just 2 kilometres from the Legion’s headquarters

I am more than satisfied with this cigar, which brings my Aubagne adventure to a wonderful close.

[Recipe] Blood of the Hyrkanian steppe

For an upcoming celebration, I had the idea of making a digestif inspired by the Hyborian Age. Here's the recipe:

_70cl of rye vodka

_80g of honey (I used Camargue honey)

_300g of cherries (each pierced twice with an acacia thorn; this facilitates the exchange between the alcohol and the fruit without creating pulp)

_150g of strawberries

_the zest of one whole orange

_1 tablespoon of pink peppercorns

_1 small cinnamon stick

_4 crushed juniper berries

_2 Kerala peppercorns

_1 clove

_1 sprig of fresh local rosemary

Wait 1 month

Of course, there's no vodka in Robert E. Howard's stories, but it has the ability to extract aromatic compounds, and I can easily imagine a distiller's hut in the middle of the steppe and the sale of the precious alcohol to Vilayet's sailors. The chosen fruits grow on bushes or shrubs that are perfectly suited to certain parts of the steppe. Rosemary and juniper instantly evoke campfire recipes after the hunt—the Hyrkanians are excellent hunters.

You might say, "There are no spices" on the steppe. That's true, but there's an important trade route to Khitai. Pink peppercorns bring a flavor not found in my country, immediately giving those who taste them a sense of travel. Finally, honey evokes the flowers that grow abundantly on the plains. As for the orange, it doesn't have a narrative significance; it simply adds richness to the flavor.

A Hyborian Age feast on the horizon

Last night I was exhausted, so I immersed myself in the adventures of Conan the Barbarian. I read the comics *Night of Horror*, *The Sorcerer of Arenjun* and *The Tower of Mitra*. And when I got home, I still hadn’t had enough, so I watched an episode of the 1997 series

So today it gave me an idea :

My mum’s birthday is coming up and I’ll be staying at her place for the occasion. As she was the one who introduced me to Conan when I was 7, I’ve planned a themed menu for her:

Starter: Arenjun’s Tavern (roasted walnuts with honey, rosemary olives and feta with olive oil. Served with lavash bread and spiced mead or white hypocras)

Soup: Soup from the Cimmerian Mountains (mushrooms and caramelised onions in smoked dark beer, crème fraîche. Served with dark beer. )

Entrée: The Picts’ Hunt (wild boar terrine with sage and red berries, served with pickled onions. Served with red wine)

Main course: The King of Aquilonia’s Roast (leg of lamb with Provençal herbs, garlic and wine, served with Southern France red wine)

Dessert: Treasure of Argos (quark cake with walnuts, honey, figs in sweet wine and spices)

Laisser mijoter 1 heure
