Lets see if Buc-ee's sues over this.... Beavercreek beaver statues.

Lets see if Buc-ee's sues over this.... Beavercreek beaver statues.

For those not from the area , the city of Beavercreek has for YEARS had large statues of guess what: BEAVERS throughout the city. Buc-ee's has a large beaver statue of it's own at their location.

With Buc-ee's being sue happy over any logo that is cartoon, has a hat, a circle and includes color (regardless of what animal it is) then how much longer will it be before Buc-ee's sues the city of Beavercreek for having beaver statues? This is obviously trademark infringement by the city of Beavercreek - right? LOL

Or should the city of Beavercreek sue Buc-ee's for copying their beaver statue idea?

https://www.daytonlocal.com/news/community/meet-the-beavers-of-beavercreek/

Lets keep in mind, Buc-ee's is suing Beaver Mini Mart in Beavercreek, 15 miles away. Google the location for yourself and see if you think the mini mart is in anyway competing with Buc-ee's. Also a common misconception - the Ohio Buck-ee's is actually in Huber Heights OH, not Dayton or Beavercreek.

Why start a new app now?

It's time to speculate...

Rover has mentioned this new app several times. Many will say that he will drag his feet and nothing will come from it. I think he will likely put effort into the app as it may be one of the key ways to access the show after contracts are up.

When they are no longer with iheart, he may go do his own thing from Florida (with or without all the show cast via remote) and will use the app as his platform. The next year or so will be his test bed for when he goes "solo".

There is a reason why he's doing it, not for the fans but for his own needs. That is just my speculation. Not being a "radio guy", how else would he continue this trainwreck otherwise?

Any real impact on the Lawsuit to Buc-ee's business?

Here's my question - Aside from my casual observation, does anyone know if the fallout from the lawsuit has had any impact on their business?

It may have, but I'm not really sure. I live in the area and pass the location every day. I see it on my way to work in the morning as I take OH-235 to 70 heading West. In the morning (6-7 am) it has always been "slow" with maybe 50 cars or less. On the way home (4-5pm) I take the back roads via OH-235 and pass right by the entrance. There is a lot more traffic and the place is "full" of cars. I avoided going in unless I really needed gas.

However, recently it seems the drive home seems to have less traffic. I get through the light at the entrance quicker it seems. Buc-ee's does not seem as busy, not by much but maybe 5-10% less.

Every story has two sides - Maybe...

Every story has another side:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnQCTtPGyVg

This doesn't change my opinion only because no one in their right mind would confuse the two logos. I think they believe they own any branding that is cartoon like, has a hat or in some way comical, cute, involves a circle or is colorful and grabs attention.

Unfortunately they do this a lot it seems and have even won on at least once:

https://preview.redd.it/g5820xpkljih1.png?width=896&format=png&auto=webp&s=72664e5c8f842544f085afa14da10e30b78cff49

The location they are going after in Ohio is THIS place - very confusing right? The mascots and logos look SO much alike.

https://preview.redd.it/fj5cpafbmjih1.png?width=404&format=png&auto=webp&s=033c4ac9ee2868494b0d6ec9ca665f797baa8aba

At the end of the day, I think Buc-ee's should be embarrassed.

I always thought competition was a good thing, Buc-ee's wants a total monopoly. Really sad as I drive past there almost daily, like the food and they have the best price on gas. I've stopped going in to buy food, but it's a lose for everyone as the vast majority will not stop going - there by NOT sending a clear message.

Firmware Update Complete - Can't tell yet what changed.

Did the update last night. Took 15 minutes to download and install, plus 5 or so minutes to shut down StarLink so the 20 minute estimate is pretty accurate.

I can't tell what was changed, but i didn't poke around a lot either. It all looked the same to me. I will say this- the boot up after letting it sit took much longer than average maybe 60 seconds or so and the screen was very "laggy" for a minute or so after. I have not had issues with the standard 'lag' everyone complains about but if this lag in the new norm - this will be TERRIBLE.

Key Takeaways:

  • Must Leave car engine running,
  • Slow to install.
  • Reboot required after install.
  • Can't tell what's different.
  • First Boot after update was slow and screen was VERY "laggy". I have not driven the car since update - I hope this was just the first boot and use and not a new issue!

If they smell, we can track them. Right?

One of the most common statements made regarding encounters is that they have a smell. A very strong smell. Why haven't humans found a bigfoot via tracking the smell?

I know dogs can track scents - we find people all the time with dogs, both alive and diseased. Digital Scent Technology also exists that can do the same thing, so why can't we find them?

It would almost seem that finding them would be straight forward. If so, my concern would be for bigfoot and his kind - especially if they are intelligent and want to remain anonymous. We are the bad ones in this scenario and I am surprised that someone hasn't already done this and found them.

Navigation Questions

2024 Crosstrek Wilderness

Any idea why Subaru would not include navigation as a part of the most "adventuresome" trim?

Luckily I feel they implemented Android Auto very well into the media system - MUCH better in my opinion than Toyota did on my 2024 Prius Limited AWD!

I know the Navigation Subaru uses is powered by tom-tom, and there seems to be a love/hate relationship with users. Most hate. lol

For those curious, the Toyota navigation is driven by Google and is actually quite nice (if not somewhat limited in its features) for a OEM navigation. Because of how poorly android auto is implemented, I use the Toyota navigation. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but it works pretty darn good.

Early Carbon issues with Hybrids?

Since getting our first ever Subaru and Crosstrek I'm a Crosstrek "sponge". I came across this video last night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6Me3N2VCX4

The claim is new cars with as little as 3000 miles have thrown codes, had performance issues that required warranty work to open up the engine and do a very invasive valve cleaning (blasting).

This really sends home the message about keeping up with the maintenance, potential early adopter issues as well as how Subaru's commitment to take care of the customer.

So far Subaru is owning the repairs and making it right. Good Job Subaru!

Washing after Off-Road use - Tips and tricks?

Quick background - this is our first Subaru and I have never done any "off road" stuff short of a gravel driveway or two. I am a car guy - meaning I need to keep my cars detailed.

Off road fun and keeping a car super clean are diametrically opposing concepts. lol

Anyone else have tips or tricks on the best way to proceed? Automatic car washed (the kind with rotating brushes) are out of the questions as they scratch paint. (I am fully aware that off roading and rocks will do far worse, but my brain says that at least that is accidental and not really being done with direct knowledge I will be scratching my car)

Sorry for the dumb question - maybe I should be asking if cleaning off mud from every crevasse of the Crosstrek even possible - seems like the car will never be immaculate afterwards. ??

How do you all clean up after off roading?

Heated Steering Option for 2024 Wilderness Trim - USA Vehicle

I know two things:

  • Heated steering wheels were available/ standard in Canada for 2024.
  • Canadian Wilderness models were made in the same plant in America that the Canadian ones were.

Does anyone know if the harness(s) on the USA model was the same as those in the Canadian version? I have seen many videos of people adding auto dimming mirrors, auto dimming side mirrors etc. and in all cased the connections for the upgraded parts was already in place making the upgrade 'plug and play' - even on lower trim models.

Perhaps the heated steering wheel is the same way and the harness is already present?

Has anyone added this to their 3rd gen Crosstrek?

Seems like a miss for Subaru on the USA to not even make this as an accessory - which I believe they fixed - at least for the 2026 model year (limited trim and above) a heated steering wheel is now standard.

What's up between Amazon and UPS - no longer able to return to UPS

Been with Prime for YEARS. Went to set up a return this weekend for a defective USB Drive and was disappointed that the local UPS drop off location was no longer an option. No UPS location was an option. Instead the only option was for a local "rent a center" place farther away in the wrong direction of 90% of my normal travels. And they aren't even open on weekends when I have the most free time and go that direction anyway (shopping etc.)

When did this change and why?

Cheers,

Rovers apartment in London - what's the deal?

Speculate on how how it came about that he is living for free in a London apartment, buying AC and to stay cool (rather than go to an actual hotel for relief) and leaves personal stuff there - such as his laptop so he can log in remotely.. ALL This while not owning the place or up to some shenanigans or low moral interactions.

The whole situation just sounds odd and if it sounds odd and the explanations make no sense then SOMETHING is up.

Here's a show/ website idea..thoughts?

The show regularly talk about TV shows, documentaries, movies etc..

Why not create content on the website to list these, including who suggested, who liked it or disliked it with a type of rating system?

I can't count how many times I've caught the tail end of a discussion about something related to one of those listed above that either grabbed my interest or i thought was dumb, but wanted to check it out anyway.

yes I know it's work for Rover and he will likely not ever update anything on that outdated website, but something new would be nice!

Mobil 1 0W-16 Full Synthetic Motor Oil vs. Subaru oil

Does anyone know if the Subaru branded oil used on the 2.5: Crosstrek is the same as the Mobil 1 0W-16?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y5MG3MX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I ask because my 2024 Prius uses the exact same viscosity oil (0W-16) and I know that the Toyota branded oil used by the dealer is in fact a rebranded Mobil 1 oil from the link I posted above. The dealer confirmed this as well as allows me to buy that oil for them to change the oil in my car every 5k miles.

The 2024 Crosstrek calls for the same weight and I would be curious if anyone has any actual info on who is branding the oil Subaru uses.

I am considering having the Subaru service department do the oil change on my wife's Wilderness, but before I ask if they will let me use Mobil 1 oil and not their oil, I want to be sure I'm comparing apples to apples.

Thanks,

Anyone have experience with XPEL XR PLUS ceramic tint?

The location that did my Prius (did and awesome job) earned my business and i want to use him again. He's also quoting a great price for the entire vehicle, including the windshield and sunroof.

He did my Prius in Autobahn ceramic and I loved the tints complimentary hue to the Prius.

Unfortunately, he is now using XPEL tint. I am not concerned about the tech specs of the film but rather the web is clearly stating that XPEL XR PLUS has a blue hue to it.

Has anyone used XPEL XR PLUS (not the Black) and can share their experience with it and maybe share a photo of how "blue" it is? I was really wanting a more color matched hue to the factory tint, but not sure is it matters. It's an expensive experiment to not get right the first time.

Thanks,

OEM Trailer Hitch - Anyone have experience with it? Pictures?

Has anyone installed or used the OEM hitch and can please share a good picture of how it looks? I downloaded the install instructions and read through them but am looking for more of experience from anyone who has used it,

I know there are aftermarket ones that cost less and are easier to install. I like the fact that it's OEM, and that it sits up high. I am however concerned about how it looks and breaks up the overall lines of the Wilderness.

Having towing in mind, it would have been great for Subaru to design the hitch and bumper cover to work together - such as making the hitch fit behind the bumper cover and having a panel that can be removed when needed.

Our use will be minimal, the occasional towing of a 4x8 trailer to the local big box store for things like for our garden, home renovations etc.

First Time Subaru Owners - Just saying Hello to the Forum.

My wife and I recently gave our 2004 Ford F150 to our son.  This left us without a winter vehicle as well as a larger vehicle for those trips to Sam's Club and the routine vet visits for our dogs.

I am a Toyota guy. I trust the brands reliability and have always had one. My wife on the other hand, picks cars based on three factors:

  1. It has to be small / “cute” (She currently drives a Scion iQ, prior to that a Smart Car)
  2. It has to have the right color
  3. It has to be winter ready – 4x4/ AWD (She doesn’t know the difference)

I was pushing for a RAV4, but my wife was not a fan. The RAV4 did not meet the first two of her basic requirements.  LOL

When she came to me and asked if we could go look for car, I couldn’t say no.  She has never taken an interest in such things – NEVER in over 30 years.

She said that she just wanted to see a Crosstrek, because it “caught her eye”.  It was cute for a “boat”.  She also said it had to be the Wilderness version – she liked that trim over the other versions.  So off to the Subaru dealer we went.

She fell in love with the second car we saw, even took it on a test drive (she never does this unless she’s wanting to buy) and her eyes lit up and it made her smile.  I knew at that moment she was going to buy it.

She went and got approved for the loan that night while I was in bed. (we keep our finances completely separate).  She told me the next day but was very concerned about having a car payment and her budget.

We drove to the dealership the next day.  All I said was “Are you sure you really want this car?  If you get it you can’t return it.” She responded with "Yes, I will make it work".

What she didn’t know was that I had left work early that day, visited the dealership as well as the bank.  My wife rarely want’s anything and I was not going to let her buy this and have anxiety for the next several years over a car payment. (we currently own all our vehicles-no loans) Our wedding anniversary and her birthday are coming up real soon.  At the dealer I handed her a impromptu card i made card while the sales guy was running to get something. Inside was her down payment.

I am so happy she loves her new car and we still don’t owe any money on any of our vehicles. 😄

Here is my wife’s 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness.  17K miles and with a few minor exceptions, like new!  Nothing fancy or super unique but not very common around where we live and .. it’s our first Subaru.

Could Equal THIS:

Obviously not to scale, the logistics of PTF tubing needs to be worked out, BUT if modified could be a dryer, a chamber heater and Canvas All-In-One. Yes it would be pricey for the dryer, but it also solves the lid issue, chamber heating and filament drying.

Not sure how critical the Elegoo spool holder are if they help with retracting.

Thoughts, ideas ?
