Vinted items stuck “in transit to local post office” since 6/20

I’m pretty sure there’s nothing I can do about this situation but thought I would ask. I dropped off two items (two different buyers) for FedEx shipping on 6/18, and on 6/20 both scanned as “in transit to local post office.” Since then, they haven’t moved. The “in transit…” scans are tagged with the city and state I shipped from, but both buyers live in different states.

Is there anything I can do here? One buyer is messaging me asking what’s going on (reasonable tbh).

Both packages were single items of clothing in my usual poly envelopes with normal Vinted labels, and I dropped them off at one of the two locations I usually go to. No funny business on my end except dropping them off the day before a postal holiday.

What genre do you write, and how much detail do you put into characters' appearances?

This became a surprisingly divisive topic at a writing group I was in. We were discussing a fantasy novel chapter, and some folk's main criticism was that the clothing was under-described, while others were fine with "she was wearing a purple gown." (FWIW, I was in the latter group.)

Writers of Reddit, what genres do you write in, and how much description do you tend to use? How much do you like to read?

(Since I wrote the post I get to share my opinion up here: I prefer more minimal description, but I do love an enlightening detail. The end of her hair is wet because she chews on it! He's wearing unusual shoes! They're much taller than everyone else and it lends them a sense of gravitas!)

Descriptions is adult vs YA vs middle grade prose

For those who have written in multiple age categories, do you notice yourself doing anything different or run into any unique challenges when working in one versus the other?

I notice when I write middle grade, I put most of not all of the character description as early in the scene as possible. When I was that age, I hated getting partway through a scene and finding out a character was wearing a hat if I hadn’t been picturing one. However, something I struggle with is hitting the balance between “readers this age need more concrete descriptions” and “don’t over explain because kids like to use their imagination.”

For adult fiction I think I get too abstract and vibe-y, but I also feel like there’s a broader spectrum of what’s considered “correct” here. Like, if you’re writing litfic and all your scenery descriptions are focused more on how a scene makes the character feel, as opposed to what it actually looks like, that’s a known convention and people who are picking up your book have the experience with that kind of writing.

(I don’t write YA because teenagers scare the living shit out of me it just hasn’t happened, but I know lots of people here do. Curious to hear your takes!)

Looking for tips/advice on writing an artist's statement

I'm applying for a grant (independently, not affiliated with an organization) and it's the worst part of the process. It feels like you have to come off as driven and accomplished enough to be worth the investment, but also small and struggling enough to need it!

I don't want to give too many details on my own situation because I'm hoping this can be a valuable topic for many people. Has anyone here ever found a resource, framework, or tips for writing an artist's statement that they found really helpful? This could be for a general grant, for an org like Fulbright, for an MFA application, etc.

No one reads the writer who can't write about themselves, or whatever Ben Franklin said.

Esthetician-recommended routine feels repetitive and expensive? (Hope y'all like a spreadsheet.)

Hi everyone! Skincare newbie(ish) here, first time posting. I'm looking for some help with my current routine.

>Backstory (skip this paragraph if you want): In my mid-twenties, I graduated grad school into the pandemic as a healthcare worker--around the same time, I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and told I could not longer use hormonal BC for a (separate) medical reason. PPE, stress, and a slew of hormone changes did all kinds of crazy things to my skin. I was also pretty broke at this time and just kind of doing whatever I could afford, skincare-wise. I've never had a routine before.

I'm now 31 and getting married in 2027, so I started going to an esthetician. She recommended me this routine (everything except the Activist, those I already had). I just hit the three-month mark and I'm not seeing any huge changes. I'm looking to see if there's anything I can reduce/eliminate before I start trying new things.

Notes:

  • I'm a white lady with combo skin and mostly hormonal acne
  • I do use an SPF but I hate the one I'm using (Beauty of Joseon) so I didn't include it because it's going to change when I run out
  • We probably have hard water
  • I live in the US so I need to be able to get products here (and tbh I've never used a K-beauty product that my skin liked?)
  • No selfie right now because I had jaw surgery and the bandage is giving me an atypical breakout
  • You can pry that Vitamin C serum out of my cold dead hands

Any help is very much appreciated!!!

Adding in at the top: I do have a dermatologist, but it's going to be about 6 months before I can get in to see her. Looking for changes/simplifications I can make before then!

If I had a nickel for every time it took me a few chapters to realize a book was set in Australia, I’d have two nickels

Got this one in February and just read it, it was excellent. The first half is definitely a little slow and meandering but the second half was excellent with a real “f*ck yeah!!!” ending 🐇

Is there any way to get to Annapolis by water?

I’m making a trip to Annapolis at the end of the summer and would love to make the trip more fun than just driving. Amtrak seems to be out, but are there any ferries or similar? Or another way I’m not thinking of?

Smart Sell lost me a sale

I had an item listed for $90.

Someone offered me $50.

I went in to counter with $65.

Only to see that Smart Sell had countered at $86!!!!

I forgot Smart Sell was on, so I checked the settings and it was set to $75 for this item…of course the buyer declined $86 because it looks like an insulting offer! I put the item in a bundle and added a comment explaining but it’s been about 16 hours with no response….sigh.

The torso fits PERFECTLY, but the sleeves are too tight on the bicep, is it just a matter of unpicking the sleeve seams?

I thrifted this shirt and the torso fits exactly how I want it, but the sleeves are a little snug in the bicep (sorry for having these cannons, I guess).

I was going to basically just unpick the cuff seam of the sleeve, which I’ve done before, but what gave me pause was that the sleeves get significantly tighter when I raise my arms directly in front of me or cross my arms but not at all when I raise them directly out to the sides or reach behind me.

I can’t tell if there’s anything weird going on here Will unpicking the sleeve cuffs help in this case, or will I have the same problem and a slightly uglier sleeve?

Fabric is 100% rayon and has been washed and line dried before trying on. I have no plans to put it in the dryer.

I was a consigner for someone back in November. It went fine, that’s neither here nor there. Poshmark told me to hold onto the actual physical Poshmark-branded duffel bag until the next person needed it, so I did.

I got the notification that someone needed it a few weeks later, and I was going by the post office that day, so I sent it out. That night, the person cancelled their request. I let Poshmark know, they said it was fine. It was sent on their shipping label so I figured at least they know where it is.

Nope. For some reason, they keep letting people request that I send them this empty bag that I don’t have. Every time I have to file a support ticket, every time the first person (bot) I talk to doesn’t understand the issue, then it gets escalated, then a week and several emails later it gets resolved. I’m thinking of closing my account because in the last couple months I think I’ve had five sales and three requests for this nonexistent bag.
