I'm not much of a cook. Would you change much in this recipe?

For context, Aldi are selling mirowave-able pouches of 'bolognese lentils' and for the record, they're exactly the sort of thing I love. However, they're 95p a packet, and I'm on budget so why not make them myself.

I want to keep the recipe as simple as possible because I'm a minimalist and lazy sort of cook. I just want to make sure the quantities are right but I'd welcome any suggestions on minor (and cheap) additions. An ingredient, maybe two. I'm also not convinced that 700g of lentils will be enough to fill my 5 Litre slowcooker. I think I need more?

Ingredients:

700g dry red lentils
2 × 500g passata (1kg total)
1.8–2.2L water
3 stock cubes
2 tbsp tomato purée (optional)
1–2 tsp garlic granules (optional)
2 tablespoons of salt

Method:

Dump everything into slow cooker.
Stir once.
Cook:
LOW: ~5–6 hrs (use 1.8–2.0L water)
HIGH: ~3–4 hrs (use 2.2L water)
Near end:
    Too thick → add water
Too wet → crack lid open 20–30 mins

So this is my save so far *tweaked* extinction x16 100% sprinters.

  • Heli once
  • Seasonal farming disabled
  • Other minor tweaks
  • Obese / zero strength+fitness start
  • Zombies shamble at night (the idea being I get a flashlight eventually and start clearing the city. But only during the night/shambling hours)

So full disclosure. I'm not going for a kill streak or a highscore or anything like that. I just want to set up a 'don't die' save and hopefully live my best life.

What's interesting is, as per this image here I started a save in Irvington (after dying somewhere else, can't remember) and was lucky to spawn on the far left-hand side of the city. There was a fence to the left of the house, so I used that to escape the following horde by jumping across it every couple of hundred meters. I checked a fair few of the houses, but they were all heaving with zombies but when I got to the house literally bottom left-hand SW corner of the map had zero zombies outside or inside. I think this is random, some houses have no zombies, but I've not done any testing.

My lucky kept coming. After a few days I start clearing the nearby barns and I noticed that the field to the north had 4 cows. And two of them are female Holstein cows!

So I brought one of the metal troughs back to base as a rain barrel and at present I have nothing to boil water which is the main concern. Hoping that Indiestone let you boil water in crucibles/clay pots soon. Until then, I'll have to hope I forage a paint bucket/cooking pot, or I might have to resort to bowls.

It's a slow grind of a save. I just ground carving to 4 to make a bucket so I can get the milk from the cows and foraged 2 nails (the exact amount I need to make a butter churn) and just need to find two large branches so I can carve them into planks because I have no tools other than the stone hammer I made.

I'll grind knapping to 4 so I can a flint saw. Ground carving to 4 so I can make a bone needle/hooks (although no water nearby for fishing anyway)

Not sure what the goal is. I expect that once I find a flashlight I'll start clearing the city at night but ideally I'll need an attachable light for that as I'm axe man.

Anyway. I think it's a cool save so I wanted to share it.

A short beginners guide to achieving god wands in Nightmare runs

TLDR: Go sideways. Not down. The end.

At the start you're looking for two spells. Digging and teleport. You want lumi-drill or plasma cutter (not the other plasma spells) as there is no cursed rock separating worlds and so you can dig freely between them. You will need a relatively quick wand to teleport between worlds though as the bosses will stomp you otherwise.

Once you have them. Start farming spells from the first biome. As you drop deeper the damage given and health of enemies multiplies significantly. Do this several times, and you'll start building a wand which can tackle biome 1 easily. Carefully explore biome 2 for better spells and wands. Sometimes biome 1 is adjacent to the fungal caverns. You can poke your nose through the door but until your wand is upgraded be aware that most enemies in there will have a lot of health and will end your run, but you will find much better wands and spells there so hit-and-run.

Early strategy will involve farming biome 1. Use the portal to the holy mountain. Heal. Dig to a new parallel world. Clear the area. Dig to the holy mountain being careful not to use the portal. Heal. Repeat.

Perks to pick:

  1. Wand experimenter. This will let you heal early, and you'll need it. Top tip: If you have found a wand with a spell on it which will hurt you. Drop it to the floor. You won't lose the heal from the wand. Do not put it in your inventory or on another wand or the heal will be lost.
  2. The next is four perks that synergise 2a. Electrical immunity.

2b. Trick greed

2c. Gold is forever

2d. Trick blood money

The electrical attack will often cause the game to think the kill is a trick kill. This will give you more gold and the gold will also heal. Gold forever will mean you will find gold/healing often as you enter new areas. Keep picking more greed perks as this will increase the gold and heal you receive.

Important points: There is no alchemist so you'll need to survive a long time without greek letter spells until you can make it to hell. There is no gold room. Most of the biomes aren't where you think they were (like wandmart)

What have I missed? (it's a short beginners guide so I've tried to keep it brief)

Is there a mod to disable portals in parallel worlds

If there is a portal around I will jump/fly/fall into it and I seem to spend my time travelling back again.
