Using Iron Oxide Powder for flooring

https://preview.redd.it/xqp4i2b2j76h1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cdc17b40b0b1945694d51961d282c2589fbc77a

I've ripped up the flooring from a small entry hall, I'd like to do something to the concrete and had my heart set on using red iron oxide powder (which is a bit reminiscent of Sri Lanka for me). A bit like this.

I have two questions.

  1. I discovered a cistern (?), does that make the iron oxide concrete idea impossible?

  2. Is working with an iron oxide concrete mix achievable for someone with only a bit of experience? Any advice is it is possible?

[English > Balinese] Balinese Wood Cutting Art

My daughter is making a magazine for school, in which she'd really love to have the Balinese word for Wood Cutting Art accompanying her Dutch-language title.  We get the following in google translate - Seni Memotong Kayu Bali - but she'd love to have the actual Balinese script.

thanks for any help

the meanings I've found seem a bit off...

செம்பை

cempai   n. 1. Common sesban.See சிற்றகத்தி (L.) 2. Jerusalem thorn. Seeசீமைச்செம்பை. (L.)

செம்பை

cempai   n. A disease affectingpaddy crop; நெற்பயிரின் நோய்வகை. (நீலகேசி,366, உரை.)

cempai   the name of a tree used for fuel, நீர்ச்செம்பை, கருஞ்செம்பை, வயற் செம்பை. are the different species of செம்பை.

"National Diploma in English" - Tamil study material from SL

I'd been meaning to upload this for a while, as I find it to be a quite clear and concise summary of all of the different tenses. But also because I have a few questions. I got this years ago in Jaffna, it's actually study material for Sri Lankans learning English.

The whole document is here

https://preview.redd.it/a59dnl9j9m5h1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba3b58c5dabea48714df74bbbe786f94e8bb7653

But I'm curious to as to whether the experts here agree with these translations of tenses. Recently I have been reading some texts and their translations and I have the feeling that the translator often translates many of the past tense forms in simple past tense. I actually finds this quite frustrating, it feels like a lot of the nuance gets lost.

school - subject/disciplines -vs- class

Just wanting to check these distinctions at school

subject = பாடம்

does discipline/field = துறை - that's what GT gives, but I think of a port/harbour when I think of this

வகுப்பு = the class, and does it also refer to the other students in that class?

and then is the lesson itself also பாடம்?

what is year/grade?

thanks

simple ways to treat concrete

I just started ripping up the flooring in this room. I was hoping to either leave it bare or paint it to come up with something approaching the red oxide flooring typical in South Asia.

Are there other options I should consider? I'm hoping to keep it as simple as possible.

Also I'm slightly worried about that cistern (?). Are there precautions I need to take there?

thanks

-த்தக்க

I am familar with மதிக்கத்தக்க, I think one of my favourite words to use in Tamil

and just now I came across this sentence, "யாரும் யாரிடமும் இரக்கம் காட்டத்தக்கதான நிலையில் நாட்டு நிலவரம் இல்லை"

so -த்தக்க can be added to words to create slang or stronger versions?

how is this done and can it, in principle, be done with any word?

And then... I know people always laugh when I saw மதிக்கத்தக்க, I think because it's very slang and the rest of my Tamil is formal and cumbersome. Just how slang is it? Would it be wrong to use it with elders?

Going onto whatsap to send a message and getting distracted by other messages...

Quite often I find myself going onto whatsap to send an important message and getting distracted by other messages and before I know it I'm off doing something else...

Anyone got any tactics to share? I'm at the point of just chanting the name of the person I need to contact until I'm in the process of typing the message to them.

Mandevilla / Pink Panther Sundaville (?) - getting too much sun?

I bought this Mandevilla (I'm not 100% sure about the name because it's some fusion which a company is calling Pink Panther).

I've got it outside, facing exactly South, from what I can tell. But I'm already noticing some leaves getting burned. It's a diagonal wall and I could move it to a couple of spot where it might get a bit more shade.

Any advice? I'm in Belgium, where the weather is a bit erratic at the moment.

thanks
