I'm just trying to wrap my head around the use of the ending -க்குரிய

I've come across it a fair bit, some examples below

அன்புக்குரியாள்
இரக்கத்துக்குரிய

மிதிப்புத்துக்கிரிய or is it மதிப்புக்குரிய ?

If I understand correctly, it's ± someone carrying the quality of the first word.

1. Where is the குரிய originating from ?

2. To form it it is noun + க்கு +... (actually as I'm writing, I'm realising that the ending perhaps stems from உரி?)

3. Can it in principle be doen with all nouns or are some a bit strange?

I've come across a couple of combinations with அழி (which is 'to destroy' as far as I know)

தட்டிக்கழி - to evade, dodge

அலைக்கழி to be greatly vexed and disquieted / vex, weary or tease, உலை; 2. ruin

I have difficulty remembering these and I'm interested in their construction

தட்டிக்கழி is coming from தட்டு (to knock) + அழி ? If so, how do native speakers perceive the two coming together to result in dodge? :)

அலைக்கழி is அலை (ok, I only thought of அலை as 'to roam' or wave but I see now it's also 'to be shaky etc') + அழி... this one makes more sense to me.

I feel like there are others, which I'm not remembering immediately.

in வருடிப் பார்த்தான், is the வருடி coming from வருடு (to rub, massage) and together with பார்க்க forming 'to scan'?

this brings me to another question which is popping up for me, to make past tense of வருடு we form வருடி, this feels to me to be quite common, but then if I think of வருஷி / வருடி (which I thought this was at first), how is the past tense made?

How does one determine this based on the ending of the word? I think I've been through this in some grammar book at some point, I'm assuming there are different groups based on the ending of the stem?

I'm having trouble understanding சனத்திரள் in this sentence? It's coming from சனம் (people, crowd), no?

ah, as I write, I am assuming he has combined it with திரள்?

Also, is எற்றி coming from எற்று (to hit, push)

This is not out of necessity, I have already sent it (I'd prefer her to see my real Tamil), but it's a while since I've written to someone in Tamil and I've been reading a lot in the meantime, I was wondering if it's had an impact. I generally feel that, unless my interlocuteur knows my history/desire to speak Tamil, even if it's poor, that they can't really understand me :) Fingers crossed, that this is better

I'm trying to create a Memrise course for my dad, who has alzheimers, in order for him to keep his brain a bit active. One of the things I'm putting in the course are photos of family members.

I made 3 columns, one question column, eg. what's your son's name?

answer column, *son's name*

and then a photo.

But I have two issues.

The photo is only coming up when it's being introduced (even though I have checked 'show always')

And in my first tests, often the answer is coming up and then 4 multiple choice options which all questions such as 'what's your son's name?'

It's not so handy in the case of someone with Alzheimers. Maybe ANKI would be simpler... ?

Hi I am looking for either

- translations of English classics, which my 14-yo daughter and I could read together, in order for her to continue reading practice in Tamil. We were thinking of something like Roal Dahl, for example. I couldn't find such translations so quickly online. Or alternatively..

- classics which young Tamils read when they are in high school or late primary school. If it's not too complex, that's better. But we don't mind it being a bit difficult, if the stories are a bit more interesting. She's been reading the books on Storyweaver.in and they feel like they've reached their expiry date for her.

I'm reading a short story in which I've come across the extension -ஒருத்தி a couple of times: தாதியொருத்தி*, பெண்ணொருத்தி**

It feels clear from the context, but I was curious. What the origin/localities of this? Is this limited to any particular types of Tamil?

Has anyone done this technique before? I just did a test using some paper and realised that I got lines more than dots. I added a bit of water to the brush and that helped a bit.

Deze post wou ik al een tijdje doen, gisterenavond werd de zoveelste fiets gepikt dus nu heb ik wel inspiratie. Ik wou horen wat mensen hun ervaringen waren en wat de beste strategieën zijn om het te vermijden.

Dit zijn de mijne van de voorbije 13 jaar.

Algemene

- slot maakt niet veel uit. Maar ik denk dat U-Locks (als zijn die van slechte kwaliteit) lijken meer af te schrikken

- in de zomer wordt er meer gestolen.

- fietsen in groepen zijn veiliger (ik aarzel bij deze).

In Antwerpen

- socio-economisch niveau van de buurt maakt niet zo veel uit. Misschien dat het het erger was in rijkere buurten? Ik vermoed dat er daar meer professioneel gestolen wordt en dat het keer 'kans' diefstal is in een armer wijk.

- Antwerpen Centraal hoofdfietsenstalling is een heel slechte plek om een fiets een paar nachten te laten (zie Brussel beneden). De fietsenstalling vanachter lijkt me misschien veiliger, maar dat durf ik niet te zeggen. Ik heb ooit een heel slechte fiets ongewild daar zonder slot voor een maand gelaten en die stond er nog toen ik terug kwam :)

- In onze huidige buurt (laag socio-economisch), lijkt het dat als een fiets heel lang in dezelfde plek op slot staat, dat er een hoger kans is. Terwijl als je de fiets blijft verplaatsen dan gaat het best goed.

In Brussel

- sinds ze de fietsenstalling van Brussel Noord zijn beginnen sluiten om 22u is het verassend veilig. Ik heb een fiets die daar geregeld 2 weken, soms zelfs een maand, in de zelfde plek staat en niet wordt gestolen. Daarvoor was het niet fantastisch, maar niet per se erger dan Antwerpen.

- zadels zijn blijkbaar de munt van dieven daar.

Which makes sense, but I don't get the origin of the word? I thought that கள்ளு refers to alcohol/toddy?

Our Whirlpool Freshcare+ washing machine, stopped working mid-cycle today. I managed to get the door open and get the clothes out by opening the top. I've tried resetting but I think we have a drainage issue.

The problem is now when I am trying to open the outlet at the bottom, I'm not getting far. I can turn it about 90 degrees, but in videos I've seen they're able to unscrew it without too much force. I remember getting it open without too much trouble about a year ago.

I'm planning on attaching thin steel sheets for the first time, like in the attached photo. The room I want to attempt this in has a few power points and such which I will have to work around.

My question is in regards to cutting the steel. If I measure it right, I could try to purchase it pre-cut to size, and then maybe cut the little parts out for the powerpoints.

I've found one supplier w/ 0.8mm thick sheets. How hard is this to cut through with a jigsaw?

I'm assuming that it's better that I get the bigger cuts done by the supplier to have straight edges?

I've ripped up the flooring from a small entry hall, I'd like to do something to the concrete and had my heart set on using red iron oxide powder (which is a bit reminiscent of Sri Lanka for me). A bit like this.

I have two questions.

1. I discovered a cistern (?), does that make the iron oxide concrete idea impossible?

2. Is working with an iron oxide concrete mix achievable for someone with only a bit of experience? Any advice is it is possible?

My daughter is making a magazine for school, in which she'd really love to have the Balinese word for Wood Cutting Art accompanying her Dutch-language title.  We get the following in google translate - Seni Memotong Kayu Bali - but she'd love to have the actual Balinese script.
