was supposed to fly in 14th to catania and airport closed due to etna - Abnb wont refund

I was supposed to checkin to my Abnb today for a three night stay and the airport shutdown all day. Its closed on 15th as well. I requested for a refund due to Disruptive events policy with 100% refund. My host wont budge. I told him its too risky to get in and get out and i need to return to work on monday. the abnb was $800. The detour of our trip cost us about $700 in flights just to divert flights as my girlfriend needs to fly back home so was a last minute ticket. the Abnb host doesnt care he just says "i have a small business" will not accept. flying into palermo and back is just not worth the extra haul for 3 nights. any experience on something like this?

US investment accounts while abroad

Hey everyone, would appreciate some advice.

I'm planning on establishing residency in South Dakota for tax reasons and plan to use a mail forwarding service there for my official documents and my address in e*trade, vanguard, fidelity, Morgan Stanley.

I'm moving completely out of the U.S. to travel in Europe for a few years. I want to keep my investment accounts and continue to trade. i will keep my US phone number. will use a beryl AX router with VPN.

Has anyone successfully managed location-independent non-US banking under this type of setup? What are the key things to watch out for?

Reminder to only use points on biz class trips long haul

I got two business class direct flights from san francisco to barcelona and rome to san francisco for 68K miles (12.8 cpp $8676) each in the peak of summer. Not to mention epic flight times arriving right at hotel checkin time. dont bother using miles for anything else than business class flights to europe
