2+ years post-injury, suddenly developed binocular double vision after visual overload. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve experienced something similar.

I sustained two motor vehicle accident-related concussions (March and July 2024) and have been dealing with persistent post-concussion syndrome for a little over two years.

My ongoing symptoms have included headaches/migraines, neck pain, cognitive fatigue, light and noise sensitivity, dizziness, and visual fatigue.

Earlier assessments also documented convergence insufficiency, impaired saccades, and even nystagmus during testing. I was referred for a neuro-optometric assessment and possible vision therapy months ago, but that never ended up happening because the auto insurance company denied the assessment.

My current ongoing physio regularly includes vestibular and vision exercises.

Until this week, I had never experienced persistent double vision.

This past Saturday I had some mild nausea and a sensation of being “on a boat,” but it mostly settled, I was fine on Sunday and Monday morning.

Then on Monday afternoon , I spent about an hour actively trading stocks using multiple monitors and multiple charts. It involved constant scanning, rapid eye movements, and sustained concentration.
I felt completely normal before I started.

After about an hour, my left eye began feeling like it was “lagging.” Shortly afterward I developed binocular double vision (it disappears completely if I cover either eye), severe dizziness, nausea, and eventually vomiting.

The double vision persisted into the next day, so I went to the ER.

The ER physician observed abnormal eye movements and nystagmus during the examination.
I told them this was already documented by multiple professionals including physio and OT and IE assessments. It wasn’t an entirely new phenomenon.

They performed bloodwork, ECG, and a CT angiogram of my head and neck to rule out stroke and other emergencies. Fortunately the imaging was negative for stroke, but they couldn’t determine the exact cause and referred me to both ophthalmology and neurology.

Right now the double vision is still present whenever both eyes are open. Covering either eye eliminates it.

I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose me over Reddit. I’m simply wondering:

Has anyone else developed new binocular double vision years after their concussion, rather than immediately after the injury?

Did anyone have symptoms that were triggered by visually demanding tasks like multiple monitors, gaming, coding, or trading?

If you had something similar, what was the eventual diagnosis? (decompensated convergence insufficiency, cranial nerve palsy, vestibular issue, something else?)

Did it improve over time?

If vision therapy, prism lenses, or neuro-optometry helped, what kind of timeline did you experience?

I’m honestly pretty discouraged because this feels like a major setback after two years of rehabilitation, but I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve been through something similar.

Thanks in advance.

In NCR - looking for Medical retirement consultants

I’m looking for a Doctor that can assist me with the medical retirement documents.

I’m on LTD since mid 2024, benefits approved to continue beyond change of definition date.

My regular physician is horrible with paperwork.

I’m hoping to find a doctor I can consult with for filling out medical retirement forms, cppd forms, and DTC forms.

Is there anyone in the NCR area who provides such a service for a reasonable fee?

Edit: I have gone through multiple IE and IME to confirm ongoing disability and likely permanence of my disability.

How does LTD reimbursement affect SAABS and Tort settlements?

Edit: replaced LTD insurer name with LTD in order to comply with group rules

I have an LTD policy, which has been paying me, and approved me beyond the change of definition date. These benefits remain payable for the foreseeable future.

I’m disabled as a result of MVA. I was not at fault.

I have active SAABS claim with my own insurer, and a tort claim against the at-fault driver.

I understand that the Insurance act prevents subrogation with section 267.

However, my Ltd contract has a very board reimbursement clause. Which I include below.

My questions are:

1) Has Ontario appellate authority directly addressed whether an LTD reimbursement clause survives or is limited by s.267.8 in the MVA context?

2) Does ltd’s clause allow recovery from:
tort only?
AB settlements?
both?

3) Can Ltd reach pain and suffering damages, or only income-related recovery?

4)How are legal fees treated when calculating any repayment obligation?

5) If my auto insurer settles the AB claim, could Sun Life assert reimbursement against those proceeds?

6) How does the law prevent double deduction where LTD offsets have already reduced SABS exposure?

Subrogation
In order to determine whether the cause or circumstances giving rise or contributing to any claim under
this policy would also give rise to a cause of action against a person, partnership, corporation or other
entity (the "Third Party"), Ltd may require any Employee to provide a written statement as to the
cause or circumstances giving rise or contributing to any such claim. Ltd may suspend payment of
benefits or further benefits to an Employee who refuses to provide such a statement.

. Claims
Where benefits under this policy have been paid or may be payable to an Employee and the Employee
has a right of action against a Third Party for recovery of loss of income which otherwise would have
been earned by the Employee during the whole or any part of the period that benefits are paid, or may be
payable, to the Employee under this policy,

the Employee shall pay to LTD an amount equal to 75% of his/her Net Recovery from the Third
Party (to a maximum of the amounts paid to the Employee under this policy), such percentage of
his/her Net Recovery to be held in trust by the Employee for Ltd until payment is made to
Sun Life;

in the event that any benefits not paid to the Employee under this policy are subsequently determined to have been payable, Ltd shall be entitled to set off against its liability for such benefits the amount the Employee would have been obliged to pay pursuant to subparagraph

  1. hereof if such
benefits had been paid to the Employee before the Employee obtained his/her recovery from the
    Third Party; and
the Employee shall provide Ltd e, free of charge:
    A. prompt notice of the commencement of any legal proceedings against a Third Party;
    B. such reports as Ltd may reasonably require from time to time concerning the status of legal
    proceedings and/or settlement negotiations with the Third Party;
    C. copies of such documents in the Employee’s possession or control that relate to his/her right of
action against the Third Party as Ltd may reasonably require from time to time; and
    D. prompt notice of the conclusion of any settlement or judicial disposition of his/her right of action
    against the Third Party.
Ltd may require the Employee to sign an acknowledgment that he/she is bound by this provision.
Ltd may withhold or discontinue benefits upon any refusal by the Employee to honour any terms of
    this provision.

Be careful what you manifest, it may not come in the way you expect it

I always said I wanted to retire by the age of 40… I’m 39 now and facing the very real possibility of medical retirement after a freak accident. (2 years ago I was parked, entirely off the road way, and a BMW left the road going about 80km/h and hit me in my parked car)

2+years of busting my ass in physio 3x per week hasn’t gotten me back to working condition. LTD just determined I can’t work any occupation at this time.

I may end up having my early retirement after all, just definitely not in the way I imagined it.

I posted a while ago about how car accidents and resulting brain injury has affected my ability to play.

My timing and processing speed have been really affected. I can’t play to backing tracks or drum loops anymore, and my improvising is very limited.

I’ve been practicing more and more these days. My noise sensitivity is still limiting how long I can practice. And the cognitive load fries my brain pretty quickly. I have to limit my time.

But…. I’m making some progress. Bit by bit I’ll get my groove back and get better than I was before the crash.

I’ve been off work for a little over 2 years now due to brain injury and musculoskeletal injuries that were caused by MVA

In October they told me they were sending me for an IME. I asked for disclosure of the documents sent to the IME. (They hadn’t included anything about the 8 month concussion rehab program they funded, or the failed GRTW program they forced me into, or anything about my ongoing treatments.).

I sent them and the assessor significant documentation about my ongoing impairment and treatments.

I attended the IME in late January. It was only neuropsych in scope. And got the report in late March (I had to request it from them and they sat on it for a month before giving it to me)

When they sent it to me, I also got their internal change of definition review documentation that showed they were going to cut me off.

However, I had the foresight in December to get my lawyer on the MVA side of things to line up IE experts on my side of things. I got a physiatrist and a psych report done and I was able to send them to the insurer 10 minutes after they send my their IME and COD review documents.

And now… I just got word that they have approved my claim beyond the change of definition date and that I continue to meet the definition of totally disabled as defined by the contract.

Ask for your file, look at what the internal documentation is showing or hinting at. You can impact it with a bit of strategy and foresight. While I have a lawyer on my MVA stuff, I’m self represented in my LTD file.

I didn’t have to sign a predatory contingency retainer that would have reduced my income going forward, I was able to get things done by researching, doing due diligence and staying on top of my file.
