Best resources to learn Web Exploitation & Networking for CTFs?

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m currently studying cybersecurity and participating in CyLab, but our current focus/curriculum is heavily centered around Reverse Engineering and a few other areas. While RE is super interesting, I really want to build a strong foundation in Web Exploitation and Computer Networking to become more well-rounded for CTFs.

Since I’m starting mostly from scratch in these two categories, could you recommend the best learning paths or hands-on platforms?

Specifically looking for:

  • Networking fundamentals: Essential concepts/protocols I need to master for CTF challenges (Wireshark, PCAP analysis, etc.).
  • Web Exploitation: Beginner-to-intermediate platforms or labs (e.g., PortSwigger Academy, TryHackMe, PicoCTF).
  • CTF Practice: Practice platforms with good beginner-friendly Web/Network challenges.

Any roadmap, book, or free resource recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! 🙌

I just beat Norman, and I think my team a pretty low level, should I training more?

Is this a good way to learn assembly?

I learn assembly by doing some reverse enginnering and search google until I solve it, then I will write in paper all code syntax(although I think I will don't know to do use it later) or some code syntax like below. Is that good for learning?

endbr64 ;assembly prog structure
push rbp
mov rbp,rsp
; put code here
pop rbp
ret

Which retro system is best for beginner gamedev if I want to play my game on an R36s (ArkOS)? (GBA, GBC, Pico-8, Megadrive, etc.)

I use AI to write this because my english is bad, sorry for that!

Hey everyone!

I’m looking to dive into retro game development, but I want to keep things manageable for my first project. My primary goal is to make a finished game relatively fast without getting bogged down in low-level assembly or overwhelming architecture, and I want to be able to run it smoothly on my R36S running ArkOS.

I’ve been looking into a few different platforms, but I'm torn on where to start:

  • Pico-8: Seems super accessible (Lua-based), has a huge community, and builds games quickly, but how is the standalone export performance on ArkOS / RetroArch?
  • GBA (Game Boy Advance): Huge nostalgia factor and awesome visual capabilities, but how steep is the learning curve using tools like GB Studio / devkitPro / C?
  • GBC / GB: GB Studio seems like the fastest route to a finished product, but am I going to hit limitations quickly if I want to try different genres?
  • Sega Genesis / Megadrive: SGDK looks amazing, but is it beginner-friendly enough to output a complete game in a reasonable timeframe?

What I'm looking for:

  1. Low entry barrier: Beginner-friendly languages, tools, or engines (e.g., Lua, Python-like, visual scripting, or beginner C).
  2. Fast prototyping to finished product: Good documentation and community support so I don't get stuck for weeks on basic mechanics.
  3. Seamless on R36S (ArkOS): Runs out of the box (either natively or via RetroArch cores) without weird control or scaling issues.

For those of you who have built games for these retro handhhelds: Which target platform would you recommend starting with, and what tools/engines made your workflow smooth?

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice!

Analog Horror vs. ARG: Which is better for a complete beginner? (Simplicity, Scalability & Virality)

I use AI to write this because my english is bad, sorry for that

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to start my very first horror project, but I’m torn between choosing Analog Horror or an ARG (Alternate Reality Game). Since I’m doing this solo and starting from scratch, I’d love to get some insights from creators or fans here based on three main factors:

1. Simplicity (Learning Curve)

Analog Horror: Seems like it relies heavily on video editing, audio distortion, and visual aesthetics (VFX, transitions, matching the early 2000s/90s vibe).

ARG: Feels like it requires more cross-platform planning, puzzle design, web hosting, or setting up fake accounts/cryptography.

Which one is actually easier to pick up if you're just learning the tools?

2. Scalability (Growing the Story)

I want a project that can start small but has room to expand into a deeper, more complex lore if it gains traction. Is it easier to expand an analog horror universe through episodic videos, or does an ARG give you more freedom to branch out since it spans multiple platforms?

3. Virality (Attracting an Audience)

The YouTube algorithm seems to love analog horror series if the atmosphere hits right. On the other hand, ARGs can create massive community engagement once people start trying to crack the puzzles together.

In 2026, which format is more likely to catch someone's eye and go viral for a new creator?

Would love to hear your thoughts, experiences, or any advice you have for a beginner. Thanks in advance!

Lost my cybersecurity fundamentals. How can I use CTFs to rebuild from scratch and regain my motivation?

*I using AI to write this because my english issue

Hey everyone,

I'm a student and a self-taught coder who used to be really passionate about penetration testing. A while back, I loved messing around with Kali Linux, networking tools, and trying out basic rooms on platforms like TryHackMe and HackTheBox. But somewhere along the line, I completely lost my momentum. Right now, I feel like I've forgotten all my cybersecurity fundamentals and I'm essentially starting from zero again.

I really want to get back into the infosec world. I'm hoping that diving into CTFs (Capture The Flag) will give me that hands-on spark of motivation I desperately need. My ultimate goal is to build a real career in cybersecurity, but for now, my main focus is just rebuilding my foundation without getting discouraged.

For someone who has completely "lost their roots" in the field, how would you recommend approaching CTFs?

Specifically:

  • What platforms or specific learning paths are best for someone needing to relearn the absolute basics?
  • Are there any beginner-friendly CTF events or communities I should keep an eye out for?
  • How do you handle the burnout or the overwhelming feeling of "not knowing anything" when tackling challenges?

Any advice, roadmaps, or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How to write a good story?

I'm planning to create a short analog horror video (about 15-20 mins) for my first project, but I have zero ideas. Could anyone give me some tips on how to write a compelling script? I want it to involve computers, but I'm stuck on the actual plot.

DESPERATE HELP NEEDED! Installed Kodi on ArkOS, now all my games are GONE (but still on the SD card)!!

Please help me, I am losing my mind here!

I installed Kodi on my device, but suddenly all of my games completely disappeared. They are nowhere to be found in the UI, even though I checked and the files are still physically on the SD card.

In a total panic, I deleted every single file and folder with the name "Kodi" on it. But guess what? Kodi is somehow still there, and my games are still missing.

I am begging you guys, please don't tell me to reinstall ArkOS. Setting it up from scratch was an absolute living nightmare for me and I really, really don't want to go through that again.

Does anyone have a fix for this? If you need any more information, logs, or details about my setup, I will provide them instantly. Please, anyone, save my setup! 🙏😭
