Has Anyone Else Suddenly Gotten Baby Fever?

I never thought I’d say this because I’m honestly not a baby person. I don’t hate kids or anything, but I’ve never been the type to see a baby and immediately want to hold them or have one myself.

My sister-in-law has two daughters. The older one can be quite annoying, so we’ll leave her out of this.

But the younger one is 2 now, and she was only one month old when I got married. So I’ve basically watched her grow up from a tiny little baby. Whenever we’d meet, I’d hold her, play with her for a while, make her laugh, etc. I always enjoyed it, but it was never like “OMG I need a baby of my own.”

But now she’s 2 and she has started TALKING.

And oh my God.

She calls me “Mami” in that tiny little baby voice and I genuinely cannot get it out of my head. She says the most random things, but the way she says them is just SO cute.

Sometimes when my husband is with them, she literally tells her mom or him, “Mujhe Mami se baat karni hai.” And then she comes on the phone and starts talking to me in her little voice.

Yesterday she said, "mami apke pass aana hai" in that cutesy voice.

Today I spent basically the entire day watching her dance over video call. And somehow I was NOT bored.

And now I have this sudden, very strong feeling of:

“I WANT A BABY.”

I’m wondering if this is actual baby fever or if I’m just completely obsessed with this particular child because I’ve watched her grow up and now she recognizes me, talks to me, asks for me, and has this little personality.

Politics and partiality at workplace affecting my mental health, how to deal with this?

I’m a faculty member, and I’ve been feeling really upset about something at work.

This semester, my HOD initially allotted me 4 sections, and I was genuinely happy because I had only been given 2 last semester. I felt like maybe my work and good student feedback were being recognized.

But the next day, I found out that one of my sections had been taken away and given to another faculty member. I asked my HOD about it, but the response was very casual, which honestly made me feel worse.

What bothers me is that I have good feedback, while this particular faculty member has had poor feedback in the past and at present too. I also feel that my HOD tends to prefer certain faculty members who are more accommodating and have a closer equation with them.

I’ve never had a bad relationship with my HOD. I’m respectful, I do the work I’m assigned, and I’ve never created any issues. So this whole thing has really affected my confidence.

I know it’s just one section, but it made me wonder whether my work is actually being valued or whether I’m simply not someone my HOD prefers.

Am I taking this too personally, or does this sound like favoritism? How would you deal with this situation?

Has anyone else felt like this since childhood?

I'm trying to understand something about myself, and I was wondering if anyone relates.

I've been like this for as long as I can remember. I'm an only child, grew up in a nuclear family, had my own room, and always preferred being alone. Teachers and relatives used to say that I was "quiet" and "lived in my own world." I had very few friends.

Even now as an adult, I feel the most peaceful when I'm alone. The problem is that it's started affecting my relationships.

If someone (literally anyone—my husband, my mom, in-laws, relatives) stays with me for a few days, I gradually become irritated. It's not because they're doing anything wrong. Even if they're just quietly sitting in the same room, I feel mentally uncomfortable. After I snap or become irritable, I feel guilty because I know they haven't done anything to deserve it.

I also get mentally exhausted after spending the whole day around people. When I get home, all I want is to be alone. Since childhood, I've also been sensitive to loud noises, crowds, and changes in routine.

This isn't about disliking people. I love my family, and I care about them. I just feel like I have an unusually strong need for solitude, and I don't understand why.

Has anyone experienced something similar? If yes, what did you eventually learn about yourself?

What is my skin type exactly? In winters, it's so dry and so strechy. In summers, it's normal to dry, but not very dry. But when monsoon comes, like in July, August, and September mid, my skin is really oily and chip-chip.

MIL showing passive aggressive behaviour just because of a puja?

So this is what happened. Since childhood, my parents have always arranged a puja on my birthday. This year, after marriage, it was my first birthday, at my in laws’ house. I told my husband to speak to his parents and inform them that I would like to have my birthday puja done.

When he told them, his mother went completely silent. Normally, she has opinions on everything. His father, however, said that it was okay and that if she wants, we could call pandit ji and get it done. She did not say anything directly to me, but later my mother in law told my husband that if I get a puja done every year at my mother’s house, then if I want to do it there, she has no problem with that.

My husband conveyed this message to me. I told him that since I am here this time, I would like to do the puja here. He said okay.

One day, my husband and I were discussing the puja, and my father in law was also part of the discussion. My mother in law came out of the kitchen and said, “The discussion is already done, it is already decided. Why are you discussing the same thing every day” My husband replied that we were just talking casually and that if a puja has to be done, some discussion is bound to happen. She did not respond after that.

While we were preparing for the puja, she seemed disinterested in some things, saying, “We do not do this” or “We do not do that” I told her that it was okay if she did not want to do something, I would do it myself.

The next day, after we woke up and got ready, she told me to handle things outside and help the Panditji, and that she would take care of the kitchen. She quickly prepared a few things, and the puja happened reasonably well.

However, after the puja, she stopped talking to me. That day I was not feeling very well physically, but her behavior toward me was quite rude. In between, I also had to go to my mother’s house to meet her. I told my husband that I wanted to go to my mom’s place. Even then, her face remained upset. She was clearly not happy.

Usually, whenever it is anyone’s birthday, in their family, she always remembers and suggests going out, ordering food, or celebrating in some way, saying things like, “It is her/his birthday, let us do something special” But this time, she went completely silent.

In the evening, she said that we would cook dinner at home. I was not in the mood to cook on my birthday, so I told my husband that I would not cook and that we should order food from outside. When my husband conveyed this to her, she said that there was leftover food from the afternoon and also we will cook at home. Why would I want to eat afternoon leftovers on my birthday. My husband said that since it's her birthday, we would order food from outside. We did order food, but I do not know why she was still unhappy. She just sat there making faces.

The next day, we had to leave together. She had to attend a function, and I had to go to work. We left together, but the entire time she did not talk to me, and I did not talk to her either. After that, she started some small talk and short conversations, but she was very rude to me throughout the day. I do not know why.

What you would have done in this situation?

So, my mausi has stage 4 cancer. She went through chemotherapy for about 5 months. About a month ago, her condition suddenly got worse and she had to be admitted in the ICU. She stayed in the ICU for around 25 days, and after that, she was put on ventilator support.

While she was in the ICU (before the ventilator), she was still talking normally to everyone. I even went to meet her, and honestly, she looked quite normal to me at that time.

But after she was put on the ventilator, I didn’t really get much time to meet her. My mom was visiting her regularly. One day my mom came back and told me that mausi’s condition was getting really bad. A few days later, I went to the hospital with my mom and saw her in the ICU. I somehow controlled my tears, but seeing her in that condition really shook me. Her condition was extremely bad, and it left a deep impact on me.

Today again, I went with my mom. She said she would go and check on mausi first and then I could visit her. But honestly, I just didn’t have the courage to go inside. I couldn’t bring myself to see her like that again.

The reason is that I cannot handle seeing my loved ones in their end-stage condition. The last time I saw my father’s dead body, it traumatized me deeply. Even now, whenever I get anxious, I get visual flashbacks of that image. It affects my mental health for days.

Similarly, when my chachi was admitted to the hospital I didn't see her, during her last moments, (she died an hour later) because I know how badly it affects me. I don’t want lifelong trauma of remembering my loved ones in such painful conditions.

So today, I didn’t go to see my mausi.

Later, my husband called me and asked whether I went to see her. I told him no, I couldn’t. He said, “She was your mausi, you should have gone to meet her.” I tried explaining that I’m not strong enough to see someone I love in their last stage like that. I break down completely, and those images stay with me forever.

On one hand, doctors are saying that she doesn’t have much time left, and a part of me feels guilty that maybe I should have seen her one last time.

On the other hand, I know that if I do see her, I won’t be able to cope mentally at all. The last time I saw her in bad condition, my mood was disturbed for more than a week, and I cried every single day.

Did I do the right thing by not seeing her, or was I wrong for prioritizing my mental health over meeting her one last time?
