Is anyone else doing this alone? Need advice/prayers/commiseration

I’m a married mom of two kids aged 4.5 and 2. The burden of parenting alone is hitting me hard this week. We live in my husbands hometown but his parents (divorced) are not involved - we only see them on major holidays. My family all lives out of town. We have no other family members in town.

Just looking for other moms who are in similar situations to see how you’ve handled it and what advice you have to make life a little more manageable (and dare I say fun?) at this stage. thanks!

Anyone else disappointed in how spouse’s family turned out?

Some context: been married for 7 years. At that time, spouses family was in a better place. I genuinely liked spending time with his immediate family and was excited to see what the future held. Since then, his parents have divorced and it has not been amicable, his sister decided to be child free, and his brother is living an aimless life.

My husband and I have 2 kids now and I feel like there’s no solid family, cousins, etc. on spouses side for them to be with... not to mention the drama of dealing with divorced grandparents who are being very immature. When I see friends who married into intact and full, big families with multiple cousins, I feel extremely envious.

Anyone else in a similar boat?

What are we doing with our 4-5 year olds who no longer nap?

My oldest is 4, turning 5 in October. She no longer naps but my little one is almost 2 still naps. I struggle to fill the afternoon with activities for her and we usually end up putting a movie on bc I need a break at that point.

What are other SAHPs doing with their 4-5 year olds when younger kids nap? thanks!

Neighborhoods with active young kids/families

Hi everyone! I did not grow up in Carmel or Indiana for that matter, but I’m hoping someone can provide some insight into specific Carmel neighborhoods with active young families, e.g., you see kids playing outside and biking around, parents pushing strollers, etc.? We have 2 young kids and I’m looking for the ideal neighborhood setting for them to grow up in. Thank you!

What’s it like having grandparents and extended family nearby?

If you’re lucky enough to live in the same city as your parents and siblings, what’s life like with them around? Do you get together most weekends? Do casual drop bys? I don’t have any of my family in town and man am I lonely raising 2 kids with just me and my husband around… Parents with supportive, extended families around seem so much happier.

Moms with kids under 5, how are you coping?

Moms with young kids now, or in the past, please weigh in! I’m drowning with my 4.5yo and 22mos old kids. I only have two but life feels extremely HARD all the time. I rarely have fun anymore. Is this normal? Is this just the phase of life with young kids right now? I am the only one my age in my family with kids so I have no firsthand knowledge to compare this to. I‘ve always wanted a family but had no clue how difficult it would be.

Please be honest. I don’t want this to be an echo chamber.

How old were you when you bought your forever home?

Curious how old parents were when they were able to buy their forever home? I’m 35 and have two kids - we own our home but can’t shake the feeling that it’s not our forever home. It’s definitely not our forever neighborhood. Would be nice to know other’s experiences.

How often and how much are your partners drinking?

I’m interested to see how often (days per week) and much (quantity) your partners are drinking alcohol? Posting in Mommit because I don’t like the idea of my partner being drunk around my kids, and parenting with a hangover the next morning sucks.

I’ll go first: my husband drinks beer heavily from after work Thursday through the weekend. He‘s usually drinking alone. I see the empties and don’t even want to count how many there are.

Curious to see how many grandparents are *offering* to babysit their grand kids?? We have two kids - 4.5 and 1.5 - and the grandparents, who are all divorced, rarely if ever offer to babysit. My in-laws live in town and my parents live out of state.

We are researching schools for our child who will begin kindergarten in 2027. We do not allow screen time other than TV and I have been disappointed to see that some area school districts introduce chromebooks/laptops in kindergarten.

Would any current parents/teachers be able to comment on the use of screens - tablets, iPads, chromebooks, etc. in their schools? Much appreciated!
