Non-latinas have no right to police how latina Daniela is

This is going to be a controversial post but I saw a popular post on here asking why latinas don't see Daniel as latina (and whilst I don't exactly agree with them either but eh), the amount of people ik the comments saying how stupid latinas are and how they're wrong etc rubs me the wrong way.

The latina community has the right to define who they do and don't see as latina and non-latinas do not have the right to overturn that. The same goes for any group.

I myself migrated from my home country to the UK when I was 3 and I have people all the time so I understand the feeling of not being seen as fully part of the culture of your country and also your parent's country. One of the worst parts of being a migrate from any gen or even mixed is that identity limbo, having not one space to claim you fully. But my situation does not give me a right to dictate how the latina community understand what being "latina" means.

Just because you think it makes her such, doesn't really matter in the end even though you're allowed to have your opinion. Identity is a social construct, there are no set perimeters. So if one community decides their own permitters for identity and decide Daniela doesn't fit into them, it may be unfairly harsh on Daniela but that doesn't mean that its any less valid for the Latina community. It's the same for Selena Gomez, Jenna Ortega etc. You can have opinions on a community you aren't a part of but at the end if the day your decision doesn't trump theres no matter what you think of it.

This obviously doesn't apply to those who are part of the Latina community and see Daniela as such, but the general consensus i've seen is different, unless its changed or i'm seeing the wrong stuff. This is not meant to be hate to daniela, the poor girl gets enough as it is, its less about her and more about identity categorisation as whole.

This is a long and stupid and unnecessary rant but like I said it applies to any community not just latina, I just see this view on this sub a lot but I don't really agree with it and I've not seen anyone else make the point either lols

Recent discourse about interracial dating

Theres a debating occurring on tik tok right now, which probaly started on twitter like all this conversations do, about how can you be pro-black and still date outside your race. The overwhelming majority of answers seen to be a yes.

Maybe its just because I'm not african-american (Im congloese-british) wherre like 99% of the disourse seems to be around but some of the responses seem...regressive for a lack of better words. A lot of arguments include breeding out blackness, dating someone who benefits from your oppression, no race liking black people, choosing a partner just based on their race, black people as an endangered species, sleeping with the enemy etc.

Its talking points that I feel like promote division and separation which seems like a full 180 from the aim of multiculturalism and integration of the past. A lot of these talking points seem fuelled by america's spefeic history with race and the current social landscape of race that I'm clearly missing as an outsider.

So my ask is can anyone help articulate why theres been such a shift in the black community and whats your own stance on it?

The Chase by Hearts2Hearts and kpop mv visuals

I really wish h2h leaned into more of leaned more into a futuristic, dreamy, cyber vibe for the chase mv. Obviouksy they shouldn't overlap too much with aespa's concept but I heard the song before watching the mv and the chase felt like lucid dreams little sister, even though I get the fx/red velvet bside comparisons too.

I liked the scenes of them in the white building and I kind of wish the whole video had more of y2k futurism aesthetic to it but a softer version, like come to me by m.i.l.k or early s.e.s. Since I got the vibes that sm wanted h2h to be reminiscent of the innocent side of their earlier groups, I think it would have suited them really well. Maybe there would have more positive reception to their debut rather than a lot of criticism they got for being too boring or safe for a debut (I was one of them it took me some time but now I'm changed now)

This is turning into a bit of a side rant but I feel this way about a lot of h2h mvs. Their visual direction feels so much less memorable and distinctive than their awesome music. I feel like especially in kpop visuals just completes the song and can even make it better, like so many iconic songs: wannabe, love dive, ditto, supernova, love shot, gee, blood sweat and tears, red flavour, dx4 etc, have an equally as iconic mv.

For me, llit has one of the best visual directions in 5th gen and it just makes their songs and overall branding even stronger. I hope I can say the same for h2h in a year's time. Looking at the photos for lemon tang so far, it looks super promising so I think sm has heard my prayers!

Tik tok kpop fans and how they view hip hop is wild

I saw this comment on a post about hip hop in kpop (linked in the comments) and it truly struck a nerve to be honest especially the second one. The idea of a whole culture with large black roots being made for kpop???? I don't get how they don't think about what they wrote.

Female songs with "mafia" vibes

I feel like most of the kpop songs I know with a dark, luxury, crime vibe are by boy groups, are there any songs with that vibe by girl groups or female soloists?

Songs that would have been better in a different year?

I feel like there's a lot of kpop songs that would been done better if they were released in a different year either in terms of popularity or just reception.

I had this thought with celebrity by IU, even though the song was literally the #1 song of the year, its a nice song but a bit underwhelming for me because of how outdated it sounded with its chainsmokers vibe, if it was released in like 2015-2017 it still wouldn't be my favourite IU single but at least I wouldn't get that outdated vibe from it.

Reversely I think a song like oh my mistake by APRIL might have gotten more traction if it was released during the whole retro/high teen era of kpop with like asap by stayc, buy who knows.

Any other songs?

Why are kpop fans so averse to critiquing music?

(Tried to post in the uncensored one but it got taken down lol)
DISCLAIMER: This is NOT aimed as hate any fandom or group but kpop culture all together.

Why are some kpop fans so against having musical discussions about their favourite group's releases? This is not directed at any fandom, every fandom is guilt of this to some degree. But why do some fans in general not like people sharing their thoughts on a project that isn't 100% positive? It often feels like kpop spaces are hostile to any form of discussion and its so exhausting when you try and start one.

This of course obviously does not apply to snark or bad faith arguments before someone tries to bring up that point again. Conversations should obviously be respectful and focused on just the work and when it ventures into anything other than that, then it's clearly hate. But i'm not about comments that are clearly hate like "this song is spiritually Israeli" or "anyone who likes this song is mentally slow" or any of that stupid twitter nonsense. I mean even a fan saying why they didn't like something from their ult group and other fans respond by saying "well you aren't are a true fan just leave if you hate it so much"" or "okay but why are you talking about it if you don't like it"

I feel like anything that isn't positive is just disregarded as being a hater or an anti. It's okay not to like a piece of music, not liking something doesn't make you a hater. Fans can dislike their own group's releases, that doesn't make them any less of a fan. Why can't people be able to have conversations about thoughts and opinions on a song, not the idols, without being attacked?

Whenever I see those kpop reactions videos it's always those forced, glazed reactions for every single song. I struggle to find ones that have honest, in-depth opinions on kpop like I can with western artist. It makes me pretty sad because I would love to have more music commentary content about kpop like I can have for rap or pop. I love hearing about people's takes on a music video or a song or an album and what they think and why and if I agree or disagree. But it feels like if unless you like something just shut up about it and move on instead of sharing your thoughts respectfully either way?

Music is meant to be engaged with openly just like any art form or anything in pop culture, so why are kpop fans not as open to having honest discussions about it? This is a genuine question I have and would love to know any thoughts or reasons as to why!

Female sad Breakup Songs?

Any breakup songs from girl groups/female soloists that are about being sad after a breakup. Any genre is perfect but I would especially love any more "chill" sounds eg jazz, lo fi, rnb etc!

Songs like epiphany by jin?

Its just so beautiful and perfect and I love the song's message of self love and acceptance, especially after a breakup, and how it's a more slow song instead of a loud, in your face one.

Are there any more songs with the same message and ballad style? I would especially love more female artists but any are welcome!

I love the song and how sensual and smooth it is but the backstory is so sad so it kind of puts me off it at times, are there any more female songs with the same vibe as that song?

I was watching exo's love me rigjt mv and I just realised how little the song matches the mv and how much all the different parts of the mv match each other too like american football x acid trip x high school boys???

But I kind of love it lol they make it work so is there any more mv like that (any group or soloist!)

Seeing the discourse around recent releases that divided some people, such as BTS and now LeSserafim, it's becoming more clear that fans cannot distinguish between hate and criticism.

I've seen people label posts with a full, justified explanation as to why they didn't like a song, thought other releases were better or just anything that wasn't positive about a song as hate. When in reality it's just criticism of a release - which they are perfectly allowed to do.

They see anyone not agreeing with their views or not praising their faves and see it as a personal attack, and therefore hate.

However, I've also seen fans try to disguise their hate for members as just criticism or concern, e.g mocking an idol, wishing for their downfall, making false accusations about them.

This is why I think people are so quick to call anything hate: because a lot of things people call criticism is just an excuse to hate - so the lines get blurred very easily.

This also applies to anything outside of releases, such as poor management choices, concerns over skills, or actual idol wrongdoings - but those kinds of conversations get blurred and messy even faster.

I think it's a shame, as it means that unless you have one strict opinion, no one is allowed to share anything deemed unpopular or controversial for fear of being labelled a hater - all because of people who do pretend to call their hate criticism.
