[TOMT] 80's pop song

I remember this catchy song that played for a while at work, and I can't get it out of my head but I don't know what song it is. Going by ear, it was a bubblegum pop song that came straight out of the 80's. The chorus always stuck out to me and it started with something like "reach, baby, reach", then a couple lyrics in the chorus had "from the girl next door" in it. The cadence (primarily in the Reach, Baby, Reach part and the following words) is similar to Dragon Ball GT's Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku, similar enough that I associated the two and sang Dan Dan when it played on the speakers.

This has been bothering me for years, and I hope I provided a vivid enough description, because if I tried using a recording of my voice, it wouldn't sound one-to-one. I don't even know if I got what lyrics I remember right. Still, any help is greatly appreciated.

All right, so I've tested the Mastermind Maker a bit

It's pretty solid, but I do have a couple of complaints

  1. When I import .por files to the Mastermind Maker, there's this weird glitch where I can't bring down any of the abilities/skills/defenses because I assume the system believes it's still at 0 because it's a new sheet despite it being imported
  2. I really don't like how it doesn't auto-calculate the Power Level the way it does in Hero Lab whenever I tweak attacks. I actually really liked that because it helped gauged what I'm dealing with
  3. I don't like how I can't have the Power Profiles and the Gadget Guides at the same time as some of the other supplements. That feels very limiting, and I don't know why

I hope they fix these up in future patches. That aside, it's pretty cool, and I'm glad I have an up-to-date 3e character creator.

EDIT: So I just learned that with the character sheet I used, it's because the numbers not being able to go down since they're the flat modifiers. Stuff like my defenses and skills as opposed to abilities. Turns out I'm just stupid. I'd still love the auto-calculation for the power level, though. Void didn't mention that in the replies, so there's something to consider.

It's 5 in the morning. I discovered this earlier today. I need to share this with y'all. It's all I can think about right now.

So, I was doing research on a personal project of mine that involved Super Robot Wars to an extent. I kept seeing the acronym TFF show up, so I went to NamuWiki to try and figure out what it meant. But while I was scrolling, I found something in the footnotes. A smattering of super robot works for some kind of cancelled game. It led me to info on an SRW game I didn't know I wanted until now.

During a livestream on the 9th of April 2019, Terada announced a concept for an SRW game. The placeholder name is called Shin Super Robot Wars (no relation, even Terada joked about that). It was going to appeal to people growing up during the Showa era, and that meant including a whole bunch of super robot shows from the 70's. And that's the kicker. It was going to include EXCLUSIVELY super robot shows. Even the producers were like "get a load of this guy, huh?" when he presented it to them.

As a guy that loves superheroes, this would've appealed so much to me, especially since I primarily use super robots in my lineups. The roster--according to NamuWiki--would've included...

- Baldios
- Combattler V
- Daitarn 3
- Daltanious
- Danguard Ace (HOLY SHIT THIS WOULD'VE COMPLETED THE SHOGUN WARRIORS LINEUP WHY HASN'T THIS GAME BEEN MADE)
- Gaiking
- Getter Robo
- God Sigma
- Mazinger Z
- Steel Jeeg
- Tetsujin #28
- Tosho Daimos
- Trider G7
- Voltes V
- Zambot 3

Planned DLC would've also included...
- Dancouga
- Getter Robo G
- God Mars
- Great Mazinger
- New Tetsujin #28
- Raideen
- UFO Robot Grendizer

Terada also mentioned that he wanted to include Groizer X and Mechander Robo as an aside.

Mechanics-wise, this game would've harkened back to the classic games. No SR points, pre-combining vehicles would've been playable again, and the only battleship in the game would've been Daiku-Maryu, which is why Gaiking was chosen. There was also a joke from one of the cohosts that everyone would've had Guts and Break Morale Limit as Spirit Commands.

As for plot, there's not much. 70 chapters in total with 40 per route, separated in worlds a la DD. Some musings about how the big bad would want to destroy all of humanity, but it would take place smack dab during the 70's. An actual period piece instead of the distant future. There would've been a post-game with unlockable short stories focusing on the villains. The OG character would've been a straight-forward hot-blooded super robot pilot like Koji, Ryoma, Hyoma, etc., but you couldn't choose the gender. Would've been just a boy. You could pick the type for the female lead, either a tomboy or a shy, innocent, demure type of girl.

If you guys want more info, or if you want to see a transcript of the stream, here's some links.

I hope you guys can speak Korean, but I don't think a foreign language has ever stopped you guys from enjoying something.

Sidenote: The last section of the stream included some fun gimmick ideas for potential games. Real Robot Wars as the inverse of this game, a game that's just "Oops! All Mazinger", and the coolest one, an SRW that features exclusively fantasy series. They threw out a few names like Rayearth, Escaflowne, Mashin Hero Wataru, Granzort, and a return of the Maso Kishin setting as a major focus. Love to see all of these work.

I summon the mech gods! Hear my plea!

So I recently discovered the Harobots series, and I've clocked four out of five mechs on here. Blue Comet SPT Layzner, Zambot 3, GaoGaiGar, and Dunbine. But the one in the middle I don't know about. It looks like a Gundam, but there's no Gundams in these games, and I looked through the list of mechs in this game and there's nothing in there that looks exactly like it. Is this guy only here for the cover, or am I just stupid? Either way, I'd like some help identifying it.

Does anyone else have Venture Bros. dreams?

I’ve had them on a semi-regular basis, and they turn out to be either one of two things; original episodes or me working with the team using my original superhero persona.

The original episodes interest me the most because of how…authentic(?) they feel. I’ve had four or five that I remember, which are…

  • Brock, Hank, and Hatred going on vacation to an island in the Pacific, but it turns out to be infested by monsters, and the island is set to collapse at any point.
  • Rusty taking his kids to a pop culture museum but Hank and Dean get lost right when it closes, and statues of characters like Ash Williams and the Rancor come alive in a Night at the Museum type scenario
  • Captain Sunshine gets rivaled by a superhero named Maximo, who is actually the Damian Wayne-type Wonder Boy that made a pact with a dark wizard (which makes this Wonder Boy a foil to Sunshine's Superman by being Captain Marvel/Shazam). He's also trying to cancel his mentor for the shit people thinks he's done in a take on cancel culture and how some people are malicious in regards to trying to deplatform otherwise innocent people
  • Brown Widow has his own musical in a callback to the first New York episode in Season 4, and it's called Brown Widow: A Midsummer Night's Swing. It's a clear reference to Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark
  • And the most recent dream which I literally had last night was Jackson and Doc teasing a Valentine's Special where the Venture Bros. get a sister! ... Who is the daughter of Hector Molina, but she ends up getting possessed by a succubus and does things that I can't say here because this isn't an NSFW post

Besides that, my self-insert dreams are kinda standard. I have dreams where I work as a superhero named Masked Master (yes, I know), and I'm friends with Hank and Dean. Rusty "tolerates" my presence and Brock's wary of me because of how well I know their backstory (long explanation for that, order my next tape if you wanna hear about it), but I get along well with the family overall. I've helped them stop villains like the Monarch as well as original ones, I've done stuff in New York with them, yakk yakk yakk. It's not that noteworthy.

Anyway, enough about me. I wanna see if you guys've had dreams about this goddamn perfect show too.

Rate my army setup (and also would like to know yours)

So I’ve played a handful of SRW games, and I’ve concluded that I’ve got a method for how I select my units. Here’s how it goes.

Because of my crippling addiction to superhero media, I default to picking the super robots first. Mazinger, Getter Robo, Raideen, Combattler V, the works. I can quit fighting for justice whenever the hell I want.

Once I’ve exhausted the super robot lineup, I go for whatever real robots I’ve got in my roster, usually the MC’s. Sometimes I like to spice things up by picking what’s on the box art.

I don’t know what the meta is for these games since I’ve only played 3 so far, so I don’t know what’s optimal. I just go with what my heart desires.

But enough about me. I’m curious to see what the hardcore fans do for their setups, since you guys have probably been playing this since y’all were a single-celled protoplasm.
