To preface, I’ve been living in this basement suite for the past 5 years now. At the beginning of this year, my toilet began to gurgle when the tenant/landlord above me were taking a shower. My landlord had his brother come over and manually auger the drain.
In June of this year the toilet backed up completely in the middle of the night and we had to call an emergency plumber. They used a mechanical snake on the line and seemingly fixed it. They also came back 3 days later to scope the pipe with a camera, and mentioned there was buildup on the interior of the pipes. They also said that they wanted to hydrojet the line but my landlord refused.
Now last night (just two months later) my toilet began to gurgle again. I don’t know why this keeps happening or how to fix but my landlord keeps trying all these diy dish soap things and nothing is working. My landlord accused me of causing it last time and made me pay for the plumber (and threatened to evict) so I don’t know what to do
26m don’t drink or smoke
I noticed that I have had a benign and painless lump on one side of my face for nearly a year now. I don’t know how/why it’s there but it’s aesthetically displeasing and I was wondering what it could be.
To preface, I’m a male, 26 years old, diagnosed osteoporotic and have been struggling with an eating disorder since 2016. I’m 126 lbs at 6’2 in height, and have been struggling with foot issues for a while now. In February 2024, I suffered multiple stress fractures in both of my ankles in a workplace accident. I genuinely thought that with enough time I’d heal and get my life back, but I instead it’s been nearly three years, and I’m still living in pain every single day.
I’ve done everything I’ve been told to do. I’ve gained weight, gone to physiotherapy, stretched, iced, rested, and followed my treatment plans. I have osteoporosis and a history of anorexia, so I know healing was never going to be straightforward, but I never imagined I’d still be here years later with so little improvement.
I can’t walk normally anymore, and Standing for any length of time hurts. Even trying to sleep is painful because my ankles ache constantly, and this translates to me feeling tired and weak a lot of times too.
What makes it even harder is that I work with children. My job is active and I used to run around, play/run active games, and be on my feet all day. I could easily walk 30 000 steps a day without a second thought, but now I can barely crack 10-15k.
I’ve adapted to just pushing through the pain because I have to maintain my employment and keep up with daily tasks, but it’s exhausting.
Has anyone else dealt with chronic pain after stress fractures or ankle injuries that just never seemed to heal? Did anything eventually help? At this point, I’m desperate for answers because I don’t want the rest of my life to look like this.

Hi everyone. I posted here about three weeks ago regarding a sewer backup in my basement suite, and I’m hoping to get some advice from plumbers or anyone familiar with residential drainage systems.
I have severe anxiety and OCD, and I’ve been struggling with a lot of worry that I may have contributed to the blockage. I’m currently in treatment for an eating disorder, and part of my disorder behaviours has involved purging into my toilet. The material can include foods like peanut butter, Nutella, cookies, cereal, and other foods. I’m concerned that this may have contributed to the blockage or could cause another one in the future.
For some background, about a month ago my toilet started gurgling and then backed up in the middle of the night. Water also came up through my shower drain when the toilet was clogged. My landlord came down and attempted to snake the drain but wasn’t able to clear it, so he called an emergency plumber. The plumber cleared the blockage and said it was approximately 15 feet down the branch line.
About 6 days later, another plumber returned with a camera and found buildup along the inside of the pipe, which they cleaned out. It is my understanding that my toilet, shower, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink all connect to the same branch line before going into the main drain. The blockage was located around 15 feet into that branch line, and my landlord believes I was responsible for the damage. The total cost was around $1000.
Since then, I’ve been very anxious about it happening again, so I tested the drainage by running multiple fixtures at the same time, flushing the toilet, and draining a full sink. Everything appears to be working normally:
No gurgling
No slow drainage
No shower backup
The toilet only has some gentle rippling on the water surface when I had all my fixtures running at once
One thing I’m unsure about is that I have lived in this basement suite for almost 6 years, and before this incident there had never been any drain maintenance done. I don’t know whether the buildup was something that accumulated over time or whether it was caused by something more recent. I’m trying to be proactive because I don’t have much money and I really want to prevent another expensive repair.
I realize this may not be a typical plumbing question, but I would appreciate any insight. I feel a lot of shame, guilt and anxiety about this, and I’m trying to understand what is realistically possible from a plumbing perspective.
Thank you for any advice.
Another fat Bungie W /s
To preface, I recently posted about my landlord thinking I clogged the pipes with my maple syrup, and before that I asked if my bulimia caused my pipes to back up.
I’ve been living in the basement suite of a house for the past 5 years. Over this time, I have been battling a severe and crippling eating disorder that involves heavy food restriction on top of bingeing and purging. I often have vomited large amounts of food into my toilet, and up until January of this year I had to problems. In January I had my shower and toilet begin to back up, and had to call my Landlord to fix. His brother came around with a 40-50ft snake and seemingly restored flow after hand cranking it for a little bit.
Everything was seemingly okay until Sunday of last week, when I heard a gurgle and then both my shower and toilet began to back up again. This was in the middle of the night, so my landlord had to call an emergency plumber and he cleared it with the mechanical snake. Just this weekend, he came back with a snake and noticed that there was significant buildup of foaming white material on the wall pipes, and then said that it was casein protein powder that caused it or something. I was so confused, because the material looked like white paper, and the casein I eat was brown as its chocolate flavour.
I need to know if I am the cause of this because I have purged things like cookies, cereal, peanut butter, Nutella and various other food items, but I’ve never been so stupid to pour grease down the drain or thrown anything like wet wipes or something. I am in the basement suite, and to be honest I don’t know what the pipe system is like in my house, and what lines connect to mine. My Landlord charged me $1000 for the fix as the clog led from my lines to the main line, so he believes that I am the cause.
It’s also worth mentioning that until this point there has been no maintenance done on the pipes, no inspections or nothing done in terms of plumbing work since I moved in.
To preface, I’ve lived in his basement suite for 5 years now and January of this year, and again on Sunday, my toilet and shower have backed up twice. The first time in January, he had his friend come over and snake the drain with a 50 foot auger.
We thought that it was solved, however on Sunday evening at 11:30, I awoke to a loud gurgle, only to find my toilet and shower backing up and overflowing onto the floor. I called my landlord to come down and instead of immediately calling an emergency plumber, he tried to snake the drain again but to no avail. Finally, after the flooding had ruined all my carpets and towels he caved and phoned an emergency plumber who came over and snaked the clog.
Apparently the line was coated with a “sticky residue” or something and my landlord phoned me out of the blue yesterday wanting to talk. I went to talk to him and he said that when he snaked the drain he noticed this sticky residue, and then said that he also noticed that I had a bottle of sugar free syrup on my countertop and an empty bottle of sugar free syrup in my garbage can. He then said that he thinks my sugar free syrup is the cause, to which I responded “I’m not pouring my syrup down the toilet or shower drain and using it in my meals”. He seemed defensive of my answer and pulled up Google AI to serve his belief that syrup could be the cause of the blockage, to which I again responded that I am not pouring syrup down the drain.
He was venting that he’s going to be out a lot of money for the emergency visit and then he said he wanted to ask me about if he could cancel the plumbers coming back because they were scheduled to camera the drain, as given that it’s the second time this year that my lines backed up, and it hasn’t happened in the 5 years prior to now that something else might be the cause (like a root or a pipe bend). I have never flushed anything besides human waste or toilet paper down my drain.
As a tenant, and as someone with friends in plumbing, am I off base here or is my landlord just trying to entrap me to admit fault so I have to foot the bill.
I have been regularly engaged in bulimic behaviours for the past 5 months but on Monday I was finally able to give myself a break for a day. I unfortunately have been experiencing an insane amount of weight gain and i don’t know what to do about it as it’s really demoralizing and embarrassing. To preface I gained 5 lbs over a day and feel soft all over. I don’t know if this is an immediate emergency or if it’s commonplace for someone in my position. Any advice is appreciated
I’m pretty embarrassed to post this, but I could really use some honest input from plumbers.
I live in a basement suite and on Sunday night my toilet began to gurgle and shower began to back up. After my landlord gave up on trying to snake it himself, and after a bunch of my stuff was exposed to sewer water, he called emergency plumbers and they came around to unclog it. I’m told that it’s okay now, but this was the second time this year that it happened. I’ve been living in this place and suffering with Anorexia and Bulimia this entire time, and I don’t know if I’m the cause of this. I’ve often vomited into the toilet after eating, and I’m now terrified that I’ve caused this blockage. The vomit has sometimes contained foods like cookies, Nutella, peanut butter, cereal, bread, and other common food
The plumbers are coming back with a camera because they think there may be a sticky residue coating the inside of the pipe. I know this is an uncomfortable topic, but I’m hoping for a technical answer rather than judgment. Is repeated vomiting into a toilet something that can realistically coat drain pipes enough to cause a clog, or is it more likely that the camera will find another cause, such as grease buildup, roots, a sagging pipe, or some other obstruction?
I’m trying to understand whether this is something I likely caused or whether I’m assuming the worst. Thanks for any insight.
From a business perspective, I struggle to understand Xbox’s continued emphasis on new exclusivity…
Xbox owns more than 30 studios and spends hundreds of millions of dollars developing major first-party games. At the same time, Xbox hardware sales lag far behind PlayStation, with roughly 34 million Xbox Series consoles sold versus over 90 million PS5s.
The situation is further complicated by Game Pass, as Xbox has trained much of its audience to access first-party games through a subscription rather than purchasing them outright. This is reducing full-price sales and making it harder for expensive games to recoup their development costs.
Given Xbox’s comparatively small install base and the enormous budgets of modern AAA games, releasing titles exclusively on Xbox/PC seems to limit revenue potential. Personally I thought multi-platform strategy appears far more logical, as it allows Microsoft to monetize its massive portfolio of studios across the largest possible audience. I also thought this was inevitable given the purchase of Activision/Blizzard because the burn rate of these studios is fucking nuts (some Call of duty’s are 600+ million dollars in development cost)
What makes the strategy even more puzzling is the reported direction of Xbox’s next-generation hardware. If Microsoft moves toward a more premium, expensive console, it risks alienating the very audience it successfully cultivated with the Xbox Series S and Game Pass. These are consumers who were drawn to Xbox because of its affordability and value proposition. Moving upmarket while maintaining a smaller install base than PlayStation could further reduce hardware adoption and make it even harder to justify exclusive releases.
And to those who say “Exclusives matter”, I absolutely agree. There’s a reason that the switch 1 was still selling boatloads of games/hardware despite having the power of a fisher price toy, but equating the burn rate of the Xbox game studios with Nintendo is ridiculous. Nintendo publishes a majority of their first party games in the much more affordable Japanese market and is tailored to a younger audience or audience of gamers that have been entrenched for decades. Furthermore I believe the PlayStation base is already entrenched with their own digital library since 2013, ever since Xbox One shat the bed with Don Mattrick.
So I’m left with a few questions. With Xbox gamepass discouraging full price purchases, a dwindling number of hardware sales every quarter, the next console rumoured to have steam and their insane development costs, how the fuck are they going to make money?
I had bloodwork done at RCH and was wondering if it’s automatically sent to mycarecompass? I can’t register for BChealthgatewY as I don’t have a bc services card and expired Drivers license so I can’t create an account.
I have a boy just turned 11 and his behaviour has been interesting to observe. He comes from a home of extremely controlling parents (no video games, limited tv, no toys etc) who are both nice people but definitely have a firm side when it comes to consequences. It’s genuinely refreshing to see a parent who doesn’t give their kid a screen but I’ve noticed in this boys behaviour that he is extremely competitive. When he plays with his peers, he will do anything and everything to win. He will change the rules, cheat or position himself in any advantage to ensure he wins. During play, he will make remarks like “I’m so good at this”, or “I’m the best here”. Whenever he does lose, he will immediately begin deflecting, creating excuses or belittling others around him to make himself seem superior.
He’s a smart kid too, and I’ve found whenever he misbehaves, wins, or performs any of these behaviours, he will try to make eye contact with me seeking either some form of interaction (or get her that be approval or contempt). the previous behaviours mentioned are definitely not pleasant to deal with, and whenever I call him out on being inflammatory or arrogant he deflects by putting down a classmate. I’ve tried to tell him that by acting this way he’s going to lose friends (he already had two of his friends literally switch out of his class) but it’s fallen on deaf ears.
I don’t know how to bring this up to his parents or how to steer him off his arrogance and self obsessed nature, as he genuinely lacks the ability to show any accountability
