What would have happened if Lightning won the dirt road race against Doc and earned his freedom?

One of the explicitly stated rules of the race was “no lollygagging” which is EXACTLY what Doc proceeded to do after Lightning crashed into the ravine. What would have happened if Sheriff (who I’m assuming is the judge since he made all the rules) told Doc “sorry, you broke one of the rules by staying behind to taunt Lightning rather than see the race through. He wins by technicality”?

Would Doc have kept his word and let Lightning go, or do you think that whole “you win, you go free” idea was all a sham because he didn’t think Lightning ever had a chance to win under any circumstances anyway?

If he did keep his word and let Lightning go, how do you think Lightnings career would have panned out? He certainly wouldn’t have any of the knowledge he learned from his time in Radiator Springs. His single mindedness towards winning almost certainly would have led to burnout.

Why do so many people want Hardass Beth back when the point of her character is that she wants peace?

Every discussion I’ve seen of this show, theres always someone in the comments saying shit like “Beths too soft” or “this isn’t the Beth I know lmao, who is this?” It makes me feel like these people seriously lack media literacy. The first scene of the series establishes that peace is all that Beth and Rip want now. Their new ranch in Montana, and now their current ranch in Texas were both supposed to be the start of that peace. Sure ranching isn’t supposed to be easy, but it wasn’t meant to be like it was in Yellowstone with John and his stuck-in-the-past BS. This was supposed to be the start of them healing from their traumas, not keep the tradition going

The morality of allowing a condemned man who is innocent of the crimes he is accused of die because he doesn’t want to live?

Characters shown are Paul Edgecomb and John Coffey from the movie “The Green Mile”

John Coffey is accused of raping and murdering two young girls. In reality, John was trying to use his supernatural healing abilities to save them, but was too late. The real killer is revealed later to be a fellow inmate who is killed by a guard. Paul offers to let John go free, but John instead chooses to die as he is tired of humanities cruelty

“Cousin Oliver” characters on shows

In later seasons of shows (mostly sitcoms), a child actor will inexplicably be added to the cast in an effort to appeal to younger audiences, but it almost always throws the vibe off because these child characters often behave in ways that are not realistic for their age. Overly precocious I think the word is

Car chases in police procedural shows that end when a random truck accidentally blocks the cop… and then just stays there without moving

Every one of these types of shows: Law & Order, Blue Bloods, Chicago PD, FBI, NCIS, etc. theres always a scene where the police go on a high speed chase, and in order to end the scene with the suspect escaping, the show throws in some random truck that inexplicably stops in between the suspect and the cop and then just fucking sits there without moving. Often in the middle of the street with no obstructions blocking it from getting out of the way. Wouldn’t there be an irl consequence for those truck drivers for doing that?

(Hilarious trope) character begins aura farming and immediately dies

  1. The Real Lucas Hood - Banshee

Lucas Hood his hired as the sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania. The day before he is sworn in, he visits a bar called The Forge where the unnamed protagonist is currently at. The bar is robbed by two thugs. During the robbery, Hood appears unfazed, maybe even a little cocky, confident he can handle the situation. He is shot and killed 5 seconds later. The unnamed protagonist then assumes Hoods identity, which forms the basis for the rest of the show

  1. Curt - Cabin in the Woods

Curt does a generic good guy speech about returning with the military to get revenge on the persons unknown who have been tormenting the group, then uses a dirt bike to jump a canyon… and smashes right into an invisible barrier and dies

  1. Charlie - 2012

Conspiracy theorist Charlie correctly assumes Yellowstone is about to blow. When it does, he makes no effort to escape and instead stays to enjoy the show. The scene is complete with Woody Harrelson’s buttcrack and a comical scream of terror before he is completely obliterated by a giant chunk of land

  1. Propeller guy - Titanic

One of the most well known irl disasters, this guy attempts to jump from the ship while it’s vertical. He hits the propellers and pinwheels 100 feet before slamming into the ocean.

  1. Newspaper guy - Deep Impact

A comet hits the ocean, causing a tsunami that decimates New York. Rather than try to save himself, this old man sits in a park and reads a newspaper while everyone runs and screams in terror. He is subsequently blasted by the wave

I imagine a good portion of a piece of medias popularity is not just the media itself, but the discussions that arise from it. Part of those discussions include criticism of aspects of the media that people don’t like.

“It’s just a show/movie/video game” as an argument towards criticism really feels like it’s just cope from a person that has lost all sense of passion in anything and is content to just let slop continue unhindered
