“Hey!

What’s the coolest way for your league to pick draft order? I’ve made this….”

Every. Single. Hobby. Subreddit. has been overrun by these guys using Gemini or Chat GPT to slap the lamest simplest tool together and try to grift money.

It seems that they’ve now hit Fantasy Football now that the season approaches. It would be lovely to see some kind of mod action/statement, because they are almost more common than actual football related posts now.

First Fence - Screw Question

Hello!

I am building my first wooden fence after nature rudely decided to take my old one down. I already have the posts in the ground, and I'm getting ready to slap on the back rails and pickets. All of the posts, rails, and pickets are the same pressure treated lumber.

I have read in this sub that Screws are gonna be a bit more work, but will hold much tighter when the wood starts to warp. I have already purchased these screws, but I don't think these are self-drilling in any way. What screws should I be getting, and do I need to pre-drill holes in everything? I just want to make sure I am good to go come building day.

Sorry if this is a noob-ish question, but I don't know where else to get better first hand recommendations.

My coworker called Bring Her Back “Let Her Cook” and I think that title is still 100% fitting.

My department at work is having a favorite movie tournament. We used Letterboxd for initial seeding.

We will be watching two movies per week and voting. A few months later when everybody has seen everything once, we will just vote on each remaining matchup once per day.

What department do you think we work in? What do you think of the selection?

My department is having a favorite movie tournament! We used Letterboxd for initial seeding.

Every week, we are watching the two movies head to head. After the first two rounds when we have seen each one once, we will just vote every day for the rest of the bracket.

I’ll update in a few months when we are done. What do you think of our pool?

Who did you know would make it big from just their debut release?

Shadow of Intent was just a band on Facebook for the most part. Chris and Ben made Primordial and that shit slappeddddd. They were dialed in from the start. Then they expanded to a full band with Matt, released Reclaimer (holy fuck, the goat) and played their first live show to a great crowd.

I’m feeling we might see the same kind of trajectory with Netherwalker. Debut album hits the scene hard, with symphonic elements and songwriting ability with movements and emotion that I haven’t heard since Reclaimer. They play their debut show to a great crowd. Now they go on tour to celebrate Whitechapel’s 20th Anniversary with legends The Acacia Strain, and Chelsea Grin. I believe that if the cards fall right, they could be legends in the making.

Not deathcore (except ATITFOL and I will fight over it), but I used to see Knocked Loose play in basements down south. Their debut EP is my most played release of all time, and now they’re co-headlining with Slipknot, opening for Metallica and such.

Who did you know would be legends from day one?

Who is invited to the BBQ?

Who isn’t technically considered deathcore, but would still fit in well on a deathcore bill?

My picks: Gojira, Between the Buried and Me, Archspire, Knocked Loose (ATITFOL), The Callous Daoboys

Everybody point and laugh…

I have a 5.2.4 system. I have had “Dolby Audio Processing” enabled on my Nvidia Shield for the first year of my dedicated theater.

My Shield has been sending 2.0 to my AVR and relying on DTS Neural X to fix it.

Brb throwing on Fury Road.

Edit: fuck my life. Ten minutes into Fury Road and I feel like I have bought a 240hz monitor and left the refresh rate at 60.

———————————————

Edit edit: For future troubleshooting purposes and google searches, I’m gonna map out exactly where this is on the Nvidia Shield.

Settings > Device Preferences > Display & Sound > Advanced Sound Settings > Dolby Audio Processing

I originally turned this on thinking it would mean extra Dolby audio *support*, not necessarily processing it into a smaller audio stream. That was why it ended up getting turned on. This is NOT on by default.

Finally got around to the Netherwalker album.

Fuck.

It’s like you took Reclaimer-era Shadow of Intent and made them ignorantly fucking filthy. These kids deserve to be on that stacked bill.

What am I missing?

Sorry, it just happens to be the hot topic today.

We saw a report that says the Bucks are deciding between JB, Hugo, and limited draft capital, or Miami’s offer of Herro, Ware, Jacquez, and multiple FRPs.

Why would we want the JB route? We then have to do this all over again, but with JB. Is that worth acquiring Hugo and limited draft capital? Obviously if we can get JB to Portland and we could get our picks, that would be amazing. But I feel like trading for JB right now with no immediate third team wouldn’t benefit us at all.

To me, I love Ware, and Jacquez has proven potential. Multiple FRPs (probably mid to late). Then we could flip Herro for even more.

Could someone help convince me that the JB route is a decent option as well? I see a lot of people saying Bucks would be idiotic to take the Heat’s package and I would just like to know what everyone else sees.

Father’s Day Recommendation

I am the only one that is not sick in my family today. They will be going to bed early on this Father’s Day, and I will have the home theater to myself for a straight through movie session.

Please recommend me something based off of my personal favorites that I have listed above.

DISCLAIMER: I have seen all Yorgos Lanthimos films, and they are not my vibe. Bugonia was good, TKOASD was good but hard to watch, and I recently couldn’t make it through The Lobster.

Time to move on. Current value?

Hello!

My grandfather last updated his home theater 15 years ago. He got this mammoth of a 3D projector in the height of the 3D craze. A Sony VPL-VW90ES. It was an absolute beast and my favorite thing in high school. Today, it has no punch with its colors, lower brightness, but still has amazing motion smoothing. I’m sure a new lamp could fix the two issues though.

Regardless, we updated his projector to a new Sony VPL-XW5000ES and a new Denon 5.1 receiver. My question, is how much is the old projector worth nowadays? It would need a new lamp, it’s only 1080p, but it’s 3D capable! Haha. Is this even worth trying to sell?

Please forgive me if this isn’t allowed or frowned upon, I did check the subreddit rules before posting and couldn’t find anything against this. I just don’t know where else to go for opinions on something like this.

Thanks everyone!!

The ending of Whiplash (2024)

I am a huge fan of anxiety rides. I made a post asking what I should watch based off of The Substance, Requiem for a Dream, Uncut Gems, The Menu, etc. multiple people recommended Whiplash (2014), and boy am I happy they did. I watched this for the first time yesterday, then made my wife watch it with me again that same night.

This is a thriller through and through with no horror real elements, but I am terrified. I would rather get yelled at by R Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket than make eye contact with Terence Fletcher once. An insane ride that explores the pursuit of perfection, and the abuse/sacrifices people go through seeking it. Neither man should be respected, but boy am I happy they found each other.

The ending of this movie is one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Overwhelming, Electrifying, Exciting, all at once, and less than 15 words are spoken in the last 15-20 minutes of this movie. The first time I left this movie, I thought “Man. Since Nieman ruined Fletcher’s career and passion, he’s gonna make sure Nieman never has one.” For about 15 minutes I was terribly wrong. He was set up to fail, correct. But this was Fletcher’s last test of him. And he succeeded.

The whole movie keeps bringing up Charlie Parker, and how he never would have tried harder and became who he was, if he never had that cymbal thrown at his head. If he was never pushed past what he thought was acceptable, he would have never developed. If he was told Good Job with the performance he did, he would’ve never been one of the greats and that’s a tragedy. That the next Charlie Parker would never be discouraged.

Fletcher wanted Nieman to fail in a grand way. But Fletcher also wanted Nieman to overcome and become great. And by the end of it, Nieman is running the show, telling Fletcher what to do. This last look he gives him, turning into joy, and them getting ready to have some fun, showed that Fletcher won. He finally got his Charlie Parker.

All of this to say. Amazing movie. Amazing writing. Not a single wasted shot. Fuck both of these people. Sorry if this ending is painfully obvious to most/some, but I had a great time thinking about this movie after it ended.

Questions for discussion: What do you think happened to the folder? Do you think Fletcher took it? Is Fletcher misogynistic? There isn’t a single woman in any of his bands until one at the very end I believe. Is there a level of delusion and psychopathy needed to achieve being the best of the best at something?

Beautiful Fuckery

I need movies that fit the vibe of:

The Substance

Requiem for a Dream

The Menu

Uncut Gems

Bring Her Back

Each of these movies are absolutely gorgeous, but they leave me unsettled in a very specific way. The atmospheres of each of these movies are phenomenal. Each movie really has its own unique flavor.

To be clear, I’m not looking to be unsettled more than anything, I want them to be actually great movies as well.
