JKXR is now available on TestFlight for Apple Vision Pro

I’ve just released the first public TestFlight build of JKXR for Apple Vision Pro.

TestFlight:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/eY7rxzmp

The Vision Pro version is currently optimized primarily for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. There is also rudimentary support for regular game controllers, but the PS VR2 controllers are definitely the intended way to play for now.

A very important credit: JKXR was originally created by Team Beef. They did the hard work of bringing Jedi Knight to standalone VR in the first place. I did not create the original VR port. My work is focused on porting Team Beef’s existing JKXR project to Apple Vision Pro and adapting it to visionOS and the available VR controllers.
This is still an early build, so expect some rough edges. I’d especially appreciate feedback on controller behavior, performance, rendering issues and anything that feels wrong.

You’ll also need the original game files from the PC version of Jedi Knight. Copy the required files from the game’s base folder into JKXR. I’d recommend getting the PC version through Steam if you don’t already own it. The game is quite old at this point and is usually available there for a relatively low price.

If you have a Vision Pro and PS VR2 controllers, give it a try and let me know how it goes!

After MarioVision, I ported the Pokémon Gen 1 overworld to the Vision Pro. Looking for beta testers

A few days ago I put Super Mario 64 on the Vision Pro. A few people asked whether the same thing could be done for Pokemon Gen 1 — so I did that too, and it is now far enough along to hand to other people.

Gen1 Vision turns the overworld into a voxel world, and you get to it two ways: standing in it in first person, or looking down on it as a diorama on the table in front of you — which you can grab with your hands to move, turn and resize.

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/YdjzQQjm
Vision Pro, visionOS 26 or newer.

You bring your own cartridge

The app ships no game data whatsoever, and I am not handing any out. You dump the ROM yourself, from your own original cartridge — that is the only route in. The app then checks the SHA-1 and refuses anything that is not a clean US Red, Blue or Yellow, including the European releases and the "fixed" re-dumps.

No cartridge, no game. That is not a limitation I plan to work around.

Controls — no controller needed

- Left hand, thumbs-up, then tip your hand the way you want to go — walk
- Right hand, thumbs-up, tip about 30 degrees — turn your view one step
- Index / middle / ring finger to thumb — A, B, and START (right hand) or SELECT (left)
- Thumb and middle finger — take hold of the world; both hands at once turn and resize it

A game controller works too, and there is a help page in the app listing every gesture and button for both.

Credit where it belongs

This is other people's work with a headset bolted onto it, and I would rather say so up front:

- The engine is gen1recomp by bryanthaboi and contributors — a native LÖVE recreation of the game, not an emulator: https://github.com/bryanthaboi/gen1recomp
- which in turn stands on the pret/pokered disassembly: https://github.com/pret/pokered
- The voxel look is the Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod by DramaticShape

My forks, where all the visionOS work lives — hand tracking, the immersive renderer, the launcher, the save editor:

What I would like to hear about

- The hand controls. Does tipping feel the right way round? Does a gesture break while you are holding it?
- Importing a cartridge and a battery save, and whether a wrong file tells you why it was refused.
- German. The app's own interface is fully translated. The in-game text is only partly there — untranslated lines fall back to English, and that is expected rather than a bug.

Fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo. "This is broken" and "this feels wrong" are equally useful to me.

Super Mario 64 VR

Hi!

I’m currently developing a Super Mario 64 clone for Apple Vision Pro. Because of copyright restrictions, the app cannot include any of the original game assets. You’ll need to provide your own US ROM of the game, but once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to enjoy it in several different ways:
- Standard 2D window
- 3D stereoscopic mode (still being improved)
- 3D portal mode, as if you’re looking through a window into the game world
- Third person VR
- Fully immersive VR

The fully immersive VR mode is still a work in progress and has a number of usability issues, but I’d say it’s already about 90% functional.
I’m currently preparing a TestFlight build and will share the invitation as soon as Apple approves it.

The Third person VR mode should be 100% playable.

Once all rendering modes are polished, I also plan to add multiplayer support. The goal is to let multiple players explore and complete levels together, either over FaceTime or through shared spatial sessions. I’ll also try to support multiple playable characters.

YES: This app will be a free app and won’t come with any ads.

I made Explore 360 — an Apple Vision Pro app for immersive 360° panoramas, Street View, SharePlay, and your own panorama library

Hi everyone,

I’d like to introduce Explore 360, my app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/explore360/id6776723541

Explore 360 is built around 360° panoramas. You can browse a curated collection of open-licensed panoramas from Wikimedia Commons, explore places on a world map, step inside the scenes, and look around freely.

But one of the most important parts for me is that it is not only about public content. You can also import your own 2:1 equirectangular panoramas from Photos or Files and view them properly on your devices. On Apple Vision Pro, they become fully immersive scenes around you.
You can organize your own panoramas into saved lists, sync them with iCloud, see geotagged panoramas on the map, and use the app as a personal 360° panorama library.

I also added several ways to explore panoramas together. You can use SharePlay over FaceTime, so everyone sees and explores the same panorama together. And because I wanted this to work even without FaceTime, I also built my own room-based sharing system: create a room, share a name or link, optionally protect it with a password, and let others join. Everyone can look around together and point things out with a laser pointer, each person with their own color and name label.
The app also includes Google Street View support, including an optional High Quality mode. I put a lot of effort into keeping loading times as short as possible, even when using the higher-quality imagery, so exploring Street View still feels smooth and responsive.

Another feature I’m really excited about is exporting. You can take any 360° image and export selected views as normal flat panorama images. This is especially useful for visionOS 27 Environments, where you may want to turn a 360° photo into a more standard panoramic image that works well as an environment-style background.
I’d love to hear your feedback, especially from Apple Vision Pro users and anyone who works with 360° photos.

I also have 15 free promo codes for the fastest users:

Concept demo: Exploring MRI-style volumetric viewing on Apple Vision Pro

I made a short video of a Vision Pro app concept I’ve been experimenting with.

The idea is to take volumetric medical-style scan data and make it explorable in spatial computing: you can view the head as a 3D volume and move or rotate a slicing plane through it, almost like looking through an MRI from any angle.

This is not meant as a medical tool or diagnostic viewer. It’s more about the visual and educational effect of interacting with volumetric data in 3D space.

The app is not available for download yet. I mainly wanted to share the idea and see what people think. Would this be something you’d like to explore on Vision Pro?

Request: Please help keep Microsoft Teams supported on Apple Vision Pro

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask for your support regarding Microsoft Teams on Apple Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro is Apple’s mixed reality headset, and while it is still a niche device, some users use it as a real productivity and work device — with large virtual screens, meetings, chats, and collaboration apps. For this use case, Microsoft Teams is one of the most important apps.

Unfortunately, the native Teams app for Apple Vision Pro has not been updated in over a year. As visionOS continues to evolve, there is a growing risk that the app may become unstable or eventually stop working properly.

I fully understand that many people here may not own an Apple Vision Pro, may not be interested in the device, or may not care whether Teams works on it. That is completely fair. However, for the small group of users who do rely on it, having a maintained Teams app makes a big difference.

That is why I would really appreciate your help — even if this issue does not affect you personally.

I submitted a feedback request here:
https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/c7211708-13d2-f011-ad8f-7c1e52f38cbc

If you are willing to support the request with an upvote, it could help increase visibility and show Microsoft that maintaining Teams across modern workplace platforms still matters.

Thank you very much for your support!

Microsoft Teams on Vision Pro

Hi everyone,

For those of you using Microsoft Teams on Apple Vision Pro: the app has not been updated in over a year.

With visionOS moving forward, I am worried that the Teams app could eventually break or stop working properly for more and more users. We have already seen compatibility issues in the past, and without an update from Microsoft, the native app may become unusable at some point.
I know the number of AVP users who also rely on Teams for work is probably small, but maybe this community can still help raise visibility.

Please consider upvoting this request on Microsoft’s feedback portal:
https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/c7211708-13d2-f011-ad8f-7c1e52f38cbc

Even if you do not personally use Teams on Vision Pro, your vote could help convince Microsoft that the app still matters.

Thank you!

I built Vision Satellites for Apple Vision Pro — 10 promo codes for the fastest users 🚀🛰️

Hi everyone,

I’m an indie developer behind Vision Satellites, an app that brings Earth’s orbit into your space on Apple Vision Pro.

The idea is simple: make the invisible satellite infrastructure around Earth visible and explorable in a spatial way. You can view a real-time 3D Earth with thousands of satellites, switch into Ground View to see what is currently passing above your location, follow satellites like the ISS or Starlink, inspect live orbital details, visualize orbit paths, and get alerts for upcoming passes.

I also added rocket launches with countdowns and 3D rocket models, plus support for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and widgets outside the app.

App Store link:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vision-satellites/id6769425689

I’d love to hear feedback from the Vision Pro community — especially what feels good in spatial computing and what could be improved.

I have 10 promo codes for the fastest users:

Neuschwanstein Castle

I visited Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany.

While there is no flight restriction zone, you should remain mindful of the large number of visitors to stay compliant.
