Multumesc !

Farpoint 40 Owners: What Did You Downsize To?

Hello everyone,

I've been traveling with an Osprey Farpoint 40 for the past few years, but I've realized that I can now fit everything I need into a smaller bag. I'm looking to downsize and would love some recommendations.

I typically travel for about 7 days at a time and don't carry a laptop, so a dedicated laptop compartment isn't important to me. I also travel with a **Tomtoc T33 Aviator 2.5L sling**, which holds my essentials and stays with me throughout the trip, so the backpack only needs to carry my clothes and a few miscellaneous items.

Ideally, I'd like the bag to work as a free personal item on airlines, even if it's slightly over the official dimensions.

From my research, I've landed on the **Osprey Daylite 26+6 Expandable** as a strong option. Are there any better alternatives I should consider?

I'm based in Europe, so I'd prefer recommendations that are reasonably priced and readily available here—nothing in the $250+ range.

Thanks in advance!

Keychain : Alox Minichamp vs Rambler ?

Literally can’t decide what i should get as the EDC SAK.
What do you guys prefer between Rambler and Alox Minichamp ? Really love the look of the Alox Minichamp.

Later edit : Ordered the Rambler in the end guys, after contemplating i came up to the conclusion that the scales would be considerably more useful compared to the extras on the Alox Minichamp. Rambler is also lighter so that is a major advantage for a keychain SAK.

Packable Travel Jacket ? (10–20°C, Urban Style)

Hello! From June 10th to 20th I’ll be exploring Valencia and nearby areas like Benidorm and Alicante, and I just realized I don’t actually own a packable travel jacket that looks more urban and less “outdoor gear” oriented.

What would you guys recommend for a lightweight, packable jacket that works well over just a t-shirt, but still has a clean city/travel aesthetic? I already own a Rab Microlight Alpine Jacket, but besides probably being too warm for that area and season, it also has a pretty technical/outdoor look that I’m trying to avoid for this trip.

I don't have a budget, let's say i could raise it up to around 350$ but would like to keep it on the lower side.

I’m mainly expecting to use it during summer evenings and late nights when temperatures are around 10–20°C. I’m based in Europe, so ideally something reasonably easy to find here. Thanks!

What accessories should I add to my Farpoint 40 + Tomtoc 2.5L Sling travel setup?

Hey guys! I’ve just put together a one-bag travel setup: new Farpoint 40 plus a Tomtoc T33 2.5L sling, which I use as an admin pouch inside the backpack when flying and as an EDC sling once I’m at my destination.

I’m now looking to add a few useful accessories to improve the setup, but I’m not really sure what’s worth getting yet haha. I was considering the Nite Ize S-Biner SlideLock Steel set (the 3-size pack), but beyond that I’m a bit lost.

What accessories do you guys actually find most useful when traveling? Thanks!

Farpoint 40 used as personal item ?

Hello! I recently spoke to someone who has been travelling exclusively with a Farpoint 40 for a few years in Europe without any issues. Can anyone relate to this? Could it be considered a personal item on airlines?

I often see people with only one large backpack, but I’m unsure if they pay for it as carry-on or not. If they measure it, can we pay for it and take it as carry-on? Will the price be higher if they measure it at the boarding gate?

Thanks!

Recommendations for a Budget Hub Motor E-Bike Kit 26" MTB ?

Hello! I’m from Europe and I’m looking to convert my 2012 Kross Level A3 (26” wheels) into an e-bike using a hub motor kit. I’d prefer to use this bike since I already own it, and it seems like a fun project rather than buying a completely new e-bike.

I’ll mostly ride it only 2–3 times per month, mainly for fun around my private property and croplands, not on public roads. The terrain is mostly flat streets with no hills.

I’m looking for a good conversion kit on the cheaper side, but still powerful enough to reach around 30–40 mph if possible. Reliability and decent value are more important to me than having the absolute best setup.

Would the Kross Level A3 be a decent platform for this kind of conversion? Also, what hub motor kits would you recommend for this type of use?

Looking forward to your advice and recommendations, thanks!

First E-Bike Advice – Fast, Versatile & Fun to Ride

Hello guys! I’m looking to buy or build an e-bike mainly for weekend rides and fun, and I figured this would be the best place to ask for advice first.

I’m after something versatile and fairly powerful — ideally on the faster side, with enough power to make it exciting to ride while still being practical for everyday use. I’m 178 cm tall, 28 years old, and around 80 kg. Most of my riding would be in the city, but I’d also like to do occasional longer rides of around 50–60 km ( like 1-2 times per year or so )

Thanks a lot in advance — I’d really appreciate your recommendations!

Later edit : I have an old Kross Level A3 Medium from 2012, would that be a good host to install Bafang BBSHD on it ? Thanks !

Hey guys, I recently realized a sling would actually be really useful for holidays when I travel only with my Osprey Farpoint 40.

I’m not really sure what size would be ideal, but I mainly want it for my sunglasses in their case (honestly the main reason I started looking for one lol) and maybe my phone, since those are usually the only things I carry. Still, it would be nice if it could fit a few extra small items when needed.

At the same time, I’d definitely like to keep it on the smaller side so it doesn’t take up much space inside the Farpoint 40.

What slings are you guys using and which ones do you find the most versatile for travel? Thanks!

Hey everyone! I’ve had a Weber Summit Kamado E6 for about three months now, and I just realized I’ve basically only cooked two things on it—smoked pulled pork and chicken wings using the heat deflector 😅

I’m curious—what are some things this grill really excels at? I feel like I’m not taking full advantage of it. Any dish ideas or techniques you’d recommend trying?

Also, are there any must-have accessories that make a big difference? I picked up the Dutch Oven Duo when I bought the grill (kind of an impulse buy—it wasn’t cheap), but I haven’t used it at all yet. Same goes for the heat deflector beyond those couple of cooks.

Would love to hear how you guys are using yours. Thanks!

Hello, I just got my first SAKs—a Victorinox Swiss Champ and a Compact—but the blades aren’t “hair-splitting” sharp. I can’t even get a clean paper cut with them even though they are brand new, they are not used or something, just not that “ crazy sharp “.

I already own a Sharpal 162N, a Beavercraft strop, and an Anystone sharpening guide, but I’ve only tried using them once and then gave up as i failed pretty bad. Would this setup be suitable for getting these knives to a very sharp edge? Since they’re brand new, should I start with just the Beavercraft strop first?

I should mention I don’t have any real sharpening experience, so I’d really appreciate some guidance. I’ve considered taking them to a professional sharpening service to avoid damaging the blades, but it also feels a bit odd to have the tools at home and still spend money on it.

What would you recommend? Is there a real risk of damaging them if I try myself?

Hello, I’ve just received a new Swiss Champ and Compact. The Swiss Champ is quite sharp, but for some reason the Compact doesn’t feel as sharp.

Is there a safe way to sharpen it without risking damage to the blade?

I mention those are my first SAKs, so i’m pretty new to this hobby. Any advice is welcomed.

Thanks a lot !

Hello! I’ve just ordered a Swiss Champ and a Compact from a kinda reputable seller—these will be my first SAKs—so I want to make sure everything checks out. I asked the seller to send detailed photos before shipping, and he did.

Is there anything specific I should inspect once they arrive? Is there anything suspicious from photos ?

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the help!
