Let’s see what 54 W can do in 40 × 40 cm (day 46)

This post is for all the skeptics and anyone who feels discouraged from starting a grow in a super-tiny space with low wattage.

This is a Mephisto autoflower, Walter White, on day 46.

Loving my selfwatering base for $8

This is just an update on the post where I researched different ropes / wicks and their capillary performance.

This is Day 33 - auroflower Walter White by Mephisto Genetics.

First time using a self watering base which I made for cca $8. Actually I feel I finally haven’t stunted her! Best decision ever. Growing in Biobizz lightmix with Advanced Nutrients Sensi

Do I really need to pH down these values in coco? (AN Sensi Coco pH Perfect)

I’m using Advanced Nutrients Sensi Coco Grow A+B with tap water (EC 0.30).

Measured 20 min after mixing:
1 ml/L → pH 6.6
2 ml/L → pH 6.4
4 ml/L → pH 6.2

So my grow will probably look like:
Week 1 → 6.6
Week 2 → 6.4
Week 3 → 6.3
Week 4+ → 6.2

Would you leave it as-is and trust pH Perfect, or still pH down to recommended ~5.8–6.0? But I would prefer to not care about PH - this is actually the reason why I bought Ph perfect in first place.

Looking for replies from people who have actually grown in 100% coco with AN pH Perfect

To už “trochu” zavání absolutismem?

Jak by to dnes asi vypadalo, když vezmeme v potaz, jak Pavel drží vládu na uzdě.

DIY Self-Watering Base: Rope Wicking Test Results

I am building a DIY self-watering base, so I wanted to find the best rope material with the highest capillary wicking performance. The results are shown in the attached image.

Key findings:
Polyester (PES) provided the best capillary performance of all the ropes tested.

Even a thin 4 mm polyester rope wicked water surprisingly well.

The cotton/polyester blend performed the worst, despite the common assumption that cotton is the best wick material.

For the DIY self-watering base, polyester appears to be the best overall choice.

how do you keep autos consistently vegging that long?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently growing my 5th autoflower. All of my previous grows have been fairly successful, averaging around 1 g/W, but one thing still bothers me: my plants tend to stay small.

The main issue doesn’t seem to be slow growth itself, but rather early flowering, which usually starts around day 20 (showing first preflowers).

I’ve been reading a lot of posts here where autoflowers keep vegging until week 5 — around day 35–40 — and that extra time is exactly what I feel I need to be fully satisfied with the results.

Of course, with some plants it’s simply genetics — some autoflowers naturally start flowering later. But I’m not really interested in those exceptions. I’ve noticed this even with some Fast Buds strains, for example.

So I’m looking for growers who consistently achieve this kind of longer vegetative period, regardless of genetics or breeder. I’m not aiming this question at “bro-growers” who just happened to keep one or two plants vegging longer by chance. I’m interested in experienced autoflower growers who can reliably get this result.
What is the secret to keeping autoflowers in the vegetative stage for this long?

Early flowering around day 20 must be triggered by some kind of stress response — I can imagine that an imperfect watering routine could be one cause. Or maybe a lack of nitrogen or other nutrients in the early stage? What have you found to be the most important factors?

My setup for all 5 grows:
Tent: 40 × 40 × 160 cm
Light: 50 W SANlight Stixx (DLI 15-30 in veg, 45 in bloom)
Medium: BioBizz Light Mix
Pot size: 3–5 gal

Soil growers?

TL;DR: How do you pre-soak a pot with a peat-based substrate — BioBizz Light-Mix, to be exact — before germination, while still keeping it fluffy? My soil always gets so damn compacted that the seedling roots seem to stall.

Long version:
Okay, here’s the thing. I’m starting my 4th autoflower round under a 50W light in a very tiny tent. I always grow one plant at a time.

So far, my plants have been rather small. I still usually harvest around 50–65g, but I’d like them to get bigger — not really because of the yield, but because I want to feel like I’m doing things properly.

Based on my research and observations, one possible reason why they stay small could be that the substrate gets compacted too early, before the roots have a chance to fully expand.

I’ve been using the method where you plant the seed directly into a fully pre-soaked pot, then leave it alone for about 10–14 days before watering again. But after that initial pre-soak, the soil gets so compacted that I honestly can’t imagine how the roots are supposed to expand freely through it.

Anyway, I’m finally getting to my question — sorry, I’m pretty high right now from Mephisto’s Canna-Cheese 😅

How do you pre-soak a pot with a peat-based substrate, BioBizz Light-Mix specifically, before germination, while still keeping the medium light and fluffy?

organic nutes into reservoir

hi,
so ive got very simple self watering pot and I wonder if I can fill it with biobizz grow / bloom / calmag etc.

the plant is not that big, so i think it would be sitting in the reservoir for like 3 - 5 days maybe?

is it fine? or playing with fire? creating biofilms, etc.? especially now there are hot temps..

btw: If something happens, I am not able to clean the reservoir (the soil is sitting on it unfortunately)

bud to leave ratio

Grapewalkerkush X Sourbubbly (day 57)

I have a feeling that those buds are very leafy. What do you think? Any chance it is gonna get better after swelling?

it is my grow#3 and I messed up during stretch (droopines for one whole week, could grow much larger I bet)

would this be considered as a droopy seedling?

still dialing in my watering practice.

cheap vegetation light

hey growmies, so Ive got a plant in my regular tent in a middle of flower. But I received an autoflower seedling and I want to give it as much as possible before I can move it into the tent.

I cant fit it into the regular tent (very small tent) and even if I do, the ideal VPD is total different for both plants.

I am low on budget right now though so I am looking for some very cheap option for light for a vegetation WHICH WORKS.

I came across this panel. DLI would be sufficient if the light is close enough but I am not sure if the light spectrum (wavelengths) will be sufficient.
Only info is that the light is 6000K which is cold white. Not possible to get more info regarding exact “nm” values unfortunately.

have you grown vegetation under this kind of light or under no name 6000K LED?

Kinda clueless what is going on with her…

Symptoms:
- Droopy leaves (after watering but also during the dry phase before watering), which confuses me because it seems to rule out both overwatering and underwatering
- The substrate volume is 13L (about 3.4 gallons)
- For the last ~14 days, I’ve been watering when the pot feels significantly lighter, then giving about 4L of water (about 1 gallon) to full saturation
- The droopiness improves slightly during the daytime phase (lights on)
- Some lower leaves show signs of a Magnesium deficiency. Other low leaves perfectly healthy
- Some of the newer leaves have necrotic spots (see photo)
- Purple petioles on most leaves
- Growing in Biobizz Lightmix, feeding with Biobizz nutrients incl 0.3ml per litr of Calmag each watering
- DLI around 40
- Plant is around 35 days old, showed first preflowers on day 20
- VPD 1.0-1.3
