Aren't there any good Rock nights in Delhi anymore? After TC, Mezz, Morrison, is Delhi completely devoid?

Genuinely curious. If you love Rock, where would you go in Delhi? There used to be such a rich and diverse offering of Rock DJ nights and live acts, like Them Clones, Orange Street, TAAQ etc. Now there's nothing. Kabir was a well-known DJ who only played rock, DJ Sid owned Morrison in South Ex in all ways possible (he's gone full commercial now), TC created its own tribe, especially those swore by its Media Nights. What happened? Where did it all disappear?

Any revivals happening?

Tenant suddenly abandons apartment, leaves liability of their belongings on me

Urgent advice needed on next steps, documentation of process from here to getting a letter from the tenant that everything has been settled satisfactorily. Is it prudent to take legal action in case the dues aren't covered in the security deposit?

Tenant was served an eviction notice on August 1 for non-payment of July rent, according to registered lease deed. Several months of problems had led me to take action 1) register the lease on my own cost (tenant refused to share the cost) 2) asked them to vacate in March due to delayed/part payments 3) give them an earful bcos they just would not communicate/ won't take calls.

I am now deeply concerned about the liability of the personal belongings they have left in the apartment. I am yet to visit and retake possession. But I am planning to go today to grab the keys, take the colony security with me, video document the state of the apartment and the belongings they claim they have left behind.

Who is this man? Manhandles reporter but has Delhi Police support

Why are there non-official elements interfering with Police, protestors and media at Jantar Mantar? For the full video, please visit the News Pinch channel [‘PM Modi को सुनना पड़ेगा’Jantar Mantar पर भयंकर भीड़ पर पुलिस का पहरा,संसद से पहले कहां रोक रखा है?]

At the ongoing Sansad Chalo March, which has been curtailed by the Delhi Police at Jantar Mantar, a strange man appears out of nowhere amid heavy police presence, shoves and manhandles the News Pinch reporter Abhinav Pandey - without any cause. Who is he? Why does the Delhi Police deal with him with such a soft touch despite him misbehaving with media right in front of them? There are IPS Officers standing right there. One woman IPS Officer covers her mouth in surprise/shock right as this incident starts (screenshot added) just as Abhinav passes her by, politely asking her, "Ma'am kya adesh hai abhi?" (Ma'am what are your current instructions?").

It seemed she knew who this guy in the red t-shirt is and wasn't expecting him to do what he did. Abhinav is doing everything by the book, cooperating and following police instructions, giving them enough opportunity to guide him so that there's no misunderstanding. This other guy has no business acting over and above the police, right under the nose of IPS Officers guiding police action.

Seems there are elements there just waiting to create confusion, cause problems and demonise the protest. We have already seen visuals of a truck full o stones and an already battered car placed right outside the protest site. Ho kya raha hai? What does Shah have in his gunda mind?

Valuation notice from High Court - Partition Suit

TLDR; Need items removed from valuation demand for stamp duty payment. Date of valuation doesn't make sense to me. Getting the decree.

The longer version:
The partition suit filed by my sisters was resolved through mediation and a court order issued in April 2022 (decree not yet received - look below). The deceasement of my father was in December 2018 who died intestate (mother passed away in 2015).

  1. Suit made a claim on several assets: a) a property willed to me by my mother (my residence at the time, mutation done before the suit), b) another property owned in full by my father, c) another co-owned by me and my father, d) bank accounts/ term deposits, and e) a demat account with equity holdings.
  2. During mediation, the property willed by my mother to me was excluded from the suit (was unnecessarily added by their lawyer as it is). After much wrangling, the demat account was also excluded because I was the nominee on it and Company Law did not require me to share that.
  3. The immovable properties: we agreed to hand over one to my sisters, proceeds to be divided as they saw fit. I retained the property I co-owned with my father. Separately, I agreed to a cash amount to be distributed among the two sisters equally. All have been legally handed over to concerned parties. Matter concluded.

Valuation demand: High Court registrar is asking for circle rates of the two immovable properties as on date of order, not date of deceasement, basis which the suit was settled. Why this date?
Which documents would serve as valuation proof?

The demand letter is also asking for valuation of demat account on date of decree. What can I do to have that removed?

How can I get a copy of the decree? Available online? Do I need to approach my counsel for that or can I access it myself?

Seeking feedback on a Right-wing Populism paper

This is the premise of a PG paper I am writing. Tell me what you think.

-----

Right-Wing populism rises with one major contributing factor (there are others, of course). This factor is related to the thesis of resource scarcity theory and economic anxiety in pol sci. It says that when resources like jobs, capital, housing etc are seen as limited, a zero-sum mentality takes hold.

This environment tends to benefit right-wing populism. Some ideas around this are:

The psychology of scarcity: When a society perceives that the prosperity is getting distant, people often turn inward.

Some behaviors result from this: In-group preference: Leaning toward their immediate cultural/ national group when they feel their survival or standard of living is under threat.

Scapegoating: Right-wing political movements use this anxiety by directing blame toward marginalised groups, immigrants, or external entities.

The "zero-sum" mindset: This is really weird. Rather than focusing on expanding the economy, the discourse shifts to protecting what is already there, leading to more protectionist and isolationist policies.

  1. The link to inequality: Historically, the rise of the Right has a massive correlation with wealth concentration rather than absolute poverty. When wealth disparity grows, it fuels the appeal of right-wing rhetoric in these ways:

Anti-establishment swing: Evenly spread prosperity ensures that large segments of the population do not feel left behind, severely weakening populist narratives that attack "the elites" or "the system."

Trust in institutions: Economic stability fosters trust in each other, whereas high inequality and scarce resources destroy that trust, leading voters to seek radical, anti-system alternatives.

I am gathering news articles to build an analytical piece around this premise. Which tool can do that for me best? I want to do a transnational analysis including nations like Brazil, Poland, France, UK (debatable) and India, where the tide shifted.

If you are aware of publications, writers, key writings and books on the subject. please help with links, wherever possible.

Agent charging 27% on Signature policy without informing. WTH?

ICICI Prudential agent sold me a Signature policy at the New Delhi office in 2023. I had gone for advice on my existing policies. He convinced me those were not serving me well, got them shut down and opened new policy.

Today I got a call from their feedback deptt to check if I knew about a 27% commission. If I didn't, I could ask for agent code to be deleted and he won't get paid the commission. I said of course.

So this guy had not only added his agent code to charge me 27% commission and also put 'client doesn't understand funds or policies' in the form. Never asked me about this or told me about the commission.

I was also directed to the Grievance deptt where another person told me he's forwarding this to the IRDA and I would soon be getting a complaint number.

Given all the phone scams running, I am not certain whether all this is genuine, though no one asked for any OTP or used any of those usual scam mechanisms.

So. What's going on? Does a company usually act against its own people like this? Its own processes?

EDIT: I have contacted the official customer service. Their responsiveness is pathetic. No wonder so many scamsters succeed. Got the official email and have written to them with all the details. Let's see.

Strange pattern in how two old friendships just ended. What's happening?

Don’t know what’s happening with my friendships of decades
Two lost since February and I can’t figure out what’s going on, though I saw somewhat of a pattern in both squabbles.

Just last night, I had a heated conversation that I wanted to avoid having just then. I had had a tough day and just been handed a fresh deadline from another timezone. Still, because my friend was calling incessantly, I decided to call him back and tell him that this would have to wait. Earlier in the day, after a short absence etc, he had asked me if everything was okay and I had said ‘no, that we will talk’.

When we did, I thought I would put his mind to rest that there was health or family concern. It was about us and we will talk. I didn’t want to share more but when he pushed, I told him about the boundaries that he had breached recently. The conversation turned into a nonsensical blame fest and he retaliated with ‘oh if you are drawing a line there, wait till I draw the line at so much else’ when nothing else was never the problem.

The matter is rather simple. I am currently unattached, living alone, with little to no dating prospects and he’s recently separated and pretty much immediately went into dating overdrive. The city/country he’s in has an abundance of young expat professionals living away from their families, making the prospects far better.

Meanwhile, I am still getting over my last relationship, which was wonderful in ways that make me miss her and not really want to look too hard for something else even three years later. My city is decidedly more regressive and an undertone of mistrust flows through dating.

When he started sharing tales of his dates and conquests (and some intimate details), I had told him how this affected my mental health and made my loneliness feel more acute. I thought I was pretty clear. Last night though, he seemed to think I had said it only in passing. In a light vein.

In a later conversation, I made the faux pas of telling him that the ladies he was dating, some close to half his age, others who struggle with the language, couldn’t lead to anything meaningful, and overall the whole thing felt shallow. He took that extremely personally.

The pattern, as will later emerge, is that both friends made the whole thing about themselves, though I was the one asking for boundaries or space. So much so, that both brought up how they had ‘sacrificed’ something to connect with me at that instance. That is something I had not asked them to do. How could I when I didn’t know their plans?

In the second instance, chronologically the first, a few months prior, it was a friend from the US who had come down to India. She had planned it so she could be there for my birthday, and then hers next month.

Here again, there’s a long history of support, and though accounting is petty and useless, my scales would be a fair bit heavier. This includes being there through a difficult time when her brother committed suicide and left messy circumstances in his wake. I had client commitments which I had to drop at her insistence that I be there, because there was no one in her extended family ‘who would understand her grief’.

I didn’t argue beyond that and I went. It was a city I wanted to avoid because my ex still lives there. But I set it all aside. Airport to police station, to an upscale hospital’s morgue, then to a govt hospital . This one refused, so to a stand-alone facility where the autopsy. There I also became an unwitting pall bearer, and then we were off to the crematorium.

Coming back to her visit. She needed lots of things bought for her. She arrived. It was handed over. Lots of gratitude etc. A few days later, we met at my place with a mutual friend. The latter and I had the mildest disagreement about serving food or drinks first.

That’s when my friend from the US reacted in an unexpectedly harsh manner about this exchange. I was severely taken aback.

Next day, when I brought her unwarranted reaction - in that our mutual friend could speak for herself if she had a problem, and she doesn’t need protection - this US friend says ‘you don’t know that she’s afraid of you’.

The strangest thing. Just a few weeks prior we had been meeting often, once going together for a longish cultural event and then several times at my place, all of which she enjoyed.

Somehow the interaction between the three of us had left a sour taste and I decided to first scale back and postpone the celebration of my birthday to the next day with just the three of us and one more friend.

Maybe there was some miscommunication there because the day of the party, I got a msg that my gifts had been delivered, and on a later call this friend from the US said ‘oh I didn’t know we were having anything today so I have come to meet my extended family’. The ones she doesn’t like meeting. I figured something was wrong.

Long absence. A later conversation was a tirade of how I am selfish and other character flaws. This was mildly funny because by now, we don’t need reminders of our flaws, we know each other all too well. She also brought up that she gave up a fully paid trip to Singapore to be there for my birthday. I didn’t know about it. I didn’t ask her to give it up. I still got blamed for her missing it.

But then she said ‘You know I thought that though he’s not behaving well, it’s still his birthday, and though he hasn’t been there for me emotionally, at least he’s been present’. Not been there for her emotionally? All these years? That rung out loud.

Since then, we had two conversations that didn’t seem to be directed at resolution, just more complaints. And now we aren’t talking.

Some differences, lots of similarities. Similar pattern of me asserting myself and setting boundaries, and getting unjustified blowback for it. Perhaps it wouldn’t matter if these were new or surface-level friendships. Both people have got meaningful, life-preserving support from me over the years i.e. I convinced the first one that therapy is the right way, accompanied him to his first session and handheld him through his crisis. And then several crises afterward. The same is true for both of these friends.
So, what is going on?

Thank you if you stuck around for this long account of my past few bewildering months.

The conversation turned into a nonsensical blame fest and he retaliated with ‘oh if you are drawing a line there, wait till I draw the line at so much else’ when nothing else was never the problem. I guess it was said in anger without thought.

The matter is rather simple. I am currently unattached, living alone, with little to no dating prospects and he’s recently separated and pretty much immediately went into dating overdrive. The city/country he’s in has an abundance of young expat professionals living away from their families, making the prospects far better.

In a later conversation, I made the faux pas of telling him that the ladies he was dating, some close to half his age, others who struggle with the language, couldn’t lead to anything meaningful, and overall the whole thing felt shallow. He took that extremely personally and interpreted it as me calling him shallow. That’s still irking him no end though at the time he pretended he had brushed it off. Later though, I also told him that it’s understandable that he needs to distract himself.

This includes being there through a difficult time when her brother committed suicide and left messy circumstances in his wake. The police found narcotics, and s*x toys, and there was a live-in partner directly involved with the death. A frightful mess in the most dreadfully hot and humid spell in a port city. I had client commitments which I had to drop at her insistence that I be there, because there was no one in her extended family ‘who would understand her grief’.

I didn’t argue beyond that and I went. It was a city I wanted to avoid because my ex still lives there and the memory of the time spent there is painful. But I set it all aside.

Airport to police station, to an upscale hospital’s morgue, to a govt hospital legally authorised to conduct an autopsy in a medico-legal case. This one refused, something the cop accompanying us had predicted. He then took us to a stand-alone facility where the autopsy (and the ‘adjustment’ of the results) took place. Toxicology handled, death deemed an accident helped by no note being found. There I also became an unwitting pall bearer, and then we were off to the crematorium.

Coming back to her visit. She needed lots of things bought for her and a set of bedding ready for when she arrives. No sweat. But kept quiet and the evening continued and concluded, not before the mutual friend offered to redesign my living room. WTH??

Next day, when I brought her unwarranted reaction - in that our mutual friend could speak for herself if she had a problem, and she doesn’t need protection - this US friend says ‘you don’t know that she’s afraid of you’. Hyderabad female top cop goes undercover at night, faces 40 men harassment in 3 hours. (This is about all of India, not just Hyderabad)

Note: More needs to be done to change the culture of impunity - in homes, schools, film and TV scripts and studios

Malkajgiri's new Police Commissioner, B Sumathi, posed as a lone woman at a late-night bus stand to assess public safety. She was approached by nearly 40 men, many intoxicated, who made vulgar remarks. Police intervened, detaining and counselling the individuals. This operation underscores concerns about women's security after dark and sends a strong anti-harassment message.
