King Boudewijn or Baudouin?

This question comes up every now and then and I have never been able to find an answer. I'm aware that the Belgian King's name, Boudewijn/Baudouin, is the same name in Dutch and French. But what I'm curious about is what the official spelling was. Like, how did the (mostly) bilingual royal family write his name in non official letters? I'm not sure if the King had a passport back in the day, but if that was the case, would it have both names?

This is very unimportant, but I'm still hoping to find out!

If end up stuck in an oven, what happens to you before you pass out?

I watched Eli Roth's Thanksgiving in which the killer murders one of the characters by cooking her inside an oven. This scene hasn't left me since. When I tried to look it up I read some horrifying stories about work place accidents involving hot ovens and people who got stuck inside them. I can't imagine the pain and fear they had to deal with before they lost their lives in this devastating manner.

This also made me wonder, did they suffer for hours or did they pass out within minutes? And what does that pain compare to? I know it's highly unlikely any of you went through something like this and made it out alive, but perhaps there's someone here who knows how that would be? From the moment you realise you're in an oven with no way to escape until the moment you die, what would it be like?

Muppets Most Wanted (2014)

Hi guys! I'm looking for the full movie script of Muppets Most Wanted. There are complete transcripts available online, which is nice, but I am looking for the screenplay specifically. Some scripts are obtainable online for a fee, on ScriptFly, for example.

Unfortunately, Muppets Most Wanted isn't one of them. I figured someone here would either have a PDF or if it's for sale somewhere else? It's my favourite film of the bunch and I've been wanting to read it for so long.

Issues with scale in Blender

This is a dumb beginner's question. I used to make CC for The Sims 4 with Blender and always used a Sims 4 item from S4S as a reference regarding the size of my own object.
I don't know how people do this for Paralives. I've been watching a couple of tutorials but most people seem to just know what they're doing in that regard. Is it as simple as I think? Does anybody have advice for me?

I am VERY optimistic regarding The Muppet Show reboot

So these three Instagram posts, all of which with #TheMuppetShow hashtag in the caption (hopesfully) seem to be hinting towards the return of our beloved Muppet Show. I became increasingly disappointed with the time that passed after the special with Sabrina Carpenter with no mention of a reboot, but last week we were asked which Muppet Show act we'd bring to a deserted island to entertain us, yesterday we got a "POV: you're performing onstage on The Muppet Show", followed by today's shoutout to Magda's costuming talents on The Muppet Show.

They haven't been posting about The Muppet Show like this in YEARS. I think it's happening!

Unsure about privacy with ABP for Safari

I can't be the only one who's slightly worried about this (see screenshot ⬇️). I don't question the developer's intentions, but the passwords and credit cards mention did make me question if it was a good idea to keep using this for browsing on Safari. Can anyone advise me on whether or not this is a good idea.

Really sad news... our Dutch Kermit/Ernie passed away at 83

Wim T. Schippers, the Sesamstraat's legendary voice actor (and puppeteer on certain occasions) passed away on June 10th. The news came out yesterday evening and since he still voiced the dubbed version of Sesame Street up until the latest ones published on Netflix.

Wim mainly voiced Jim Henson's characters (such as Kermit The Frog and Ernie) while Paul Haenen did most of Frank Oz's. Most of the time they were dubbed shorts from Sesame Street, but for several performances they performed with the puppets themselves, like this special event that celebrated Sesamstraat's 30th anniversary.

https://preview.redd.it/4lmw9b529m7h1.jpg?width=531&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b19efd7677d60a8a4d1cc55756f9baaa08c0085

From the first episode in 1976 up until 2019 The Netherlands had its own co production with our own human cast and Muppets, even though they were still built by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Most episodes were unique to The Netherlands, but those with Ernie, Kermit and many many others were voiced by Wim T. Schippers. In recent years we've only had the American Sesame Street on Netflix. Still with Wim and Paul's voices as the iconic characters we've known and loved for the past 50 years.

Wim T. Schippers with Dutch Muppets Tommie (dog), Ienieminie (mouse) and Big Bird's cousin Pino

When The Muppet Show aired in The Netherlands in the 1970s/80s they were subtitled, but Wim T. Schippers was still responsible for the Dutch voice dub of Kermit The Frog for the full length films and specials.

Yes, the first thing you probably noticed is how different the voices are compared to what most of us are familiar with. These were deliberate choices. He specifically didn't want to mimic Jim (or Steve, Peter, Matt and others), but created a whole other vibe. Kermit's voice sounds like the voiceover from those old fashioned newsreels from between, roughly, the 30s and 60s. This was a perfect fit for his News Flash segments.

I understand that for many of yours this is a completely unknown figure, but for us in The Netherlands we consider him a cultural icon and it was his voice we grew up on watching Ernie and Kermit The Frog. They were on my Sesamstraat cassettes in the car back in the 90s and unbeknownst to me a lot of those songs were made for Sesamstraat specifically and were never used for the original American production. An example is this banger Maak Er Wat Van (loosely translates to: make the most of it). But obviously the classics known around the world like Disco Frog (or in Dutch: The Disco Dance).

But the song I put on top of my playlist to commemorate him was the Dutch version of I Don't Want To Live On The Moon.
I'm most familiar with the original by Jim Henson's Ernie that always makes me emotional, but for today I want to celebrate Wim T. Schippers by listening to the Dutch dub.

I hope Jim's excited to meet him up there 🩵

Haunting, sentimental music in Hostel Part II. What's the title?

There is a hauntingly beautiful piece of music in the splatter film Hostel Part II by Eli Roth that I've been trying to identify for a while. It plays from 01:07:14 to 1:10:21. I'm not a musical genius but it sounds like a mixture of sentimental slow Klezmer violin, slavic strings (I don't know what this instrument is called) and a woman's voice in a semi classical style. I don't know what language it is she's singing in. It sounds Eastern European, even though that's a very wide spectrum. In case this helps; the film takes place in Slovakia.

I've tried Shazam, went through the list of tracks on IMDb and did everything you'd normally do to find the music you're looking for. The original score for Hostel Part II by Nathan Barr is on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. This piece, however, isn't included either...

Does anyone know what it's called? If it's not on the original score album I assume it's by an unrelated artist.

What is this "become Jewish online" website??

Let me be clear before I start, if you are interested in conversion, THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION! I just found something online that I thought was questionable.

There are some "become a..." websites that offer very disputable certificates. There is one on which you can get ordained as a church minister for free and within minutes, or where you're able to buy yourself the title of Lord/Lady by purchasing one square foot of land in Scotland. The fact that this exists made me wonder if there's something like this that would be something like "become Jewish in 5 minutes" or anything like that.

And guess what? The website MakeMeJewish.com allows you to convert to Judaism online! Step 1 is choosing between Reform and "Traditional Judaism", whatever that may be. I expected this to be a scam, but then I saw this in their FAQ:

  • Conversion is completed through a final beit din.
  • Certificates of acceptance into the Jewish faith are issued by Rabbi Marc in accordance with Jewish law, tradition, and established rabbinic standards.
  • Certificates of acceptance into the Jewish faith are sent by mail upon completion of the program.
  • We assist our students with scheduling mikveh immersions to finalize their conversion.
  • We write personalized letters for students seeking placement in congregations and Jewish communities worldwide upon request.

The rest of the website is still weird, by the way, so this didn't change my mind about this being legit. Regardless, this does make me wonder if there is some credibility to this anyway. Have any of you guys seen this before?

So disappointed in friends and acquaintances who went to see Ye's concert

FYI: I'm talking about the artist formerly known as Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye. Even though this guy is a racist antisemitic dick, I still think that bad people are still worthy of respect and being called the name they chose.

That being said, this man called himself a nazi, brought out a song titled 'H*il H*tler', did a nazi salute on a livestream, sold swastika t-shirts (that he advertised in a Superbowl ad) and had the audacity to tweet the following: "Some of my best friends are Jewish and I don’t trust any of them". And despite all this people here in my country still decided to go to his concert.
We all know people generally don't care about Jews and our feelings so I'm not surprised that he gets away with this. I completely understand there are a lot of people who aren't aware of these things he said and there are also people who genuinely couldn't care less, but the people who SHOULD care seem to suddenly have lost their moral compasses and I'm so disappointed.

There are people who are normally very serious about justice, who openly fight against hate speech/antisemitism and still went to see Ye?! I know Jewish people who are aware of the things he said and suddenly stopped caring and went to his show. I'm so confused and so disappointed. I never thought to see so many people who normally call out everything that even slightly touches antisemitism forget about everything they care about or fight against.

On the one hand I want to tell everyone who's been to see Ye that it's insane to spend money on an artist who openly said HE HATES YOU. And not in a subtle way. He sold swastika shirts! And praised H*tler in his music!
On the other hand, I do know it isn't that deep. Celebrity culture is so toxic and we should stop thinking celebrities are good people until proven otherwise. Most of them are far removed from our "normal" society and we have nothing with in common with any of them, even the ones we like. But how Jewish people and allies or activists feel okay with supporting this neo nazi artist is inexplainable in my mind. Makes you think how many people throw ethics out of the window when they can have a fun night out. I'm so disappointed...

Trap after trap after trap?

I've been playing this game for years and only recently did he start setting up traps to see if I'd fall for the bait of choosing the obscure character presented. At first these happened once every couple of weeks, but lately I've been getting more traps than right guesses? I just had THREE traps for one character before he finally got to the character he was trying to guess. Am I doing something suspicious or anything? Or is this just something new?

Sims 2 (MacOS, M2) crashes before startup

I've been trying to boot up 'The Sims 2: Super Collection' on my M2 MacBook Pro. It used to work fine a while ago but I remember I had this same problem when I went from Intel to M1 back in the day. I think it ran without any problems on this M2 mac, but right now it doesn't go past the Aspyr startup window:

https://preview.redd.it/hdhgxansjv3h1.jpg?width=1798&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a489bf6ef2affd36da996a763ad7215dadefd761

When I press play for a second or two it seems like it's going to open as you'd normally expect. And then it doesn't. Nothing happens. Not even an error popup or anything similar. Usually that's the moment when I decide to give up, but I just want to be able to play the game.

I've gone through this sub and the wiki and the solution usually mentioned is changing the refresh rate from ProMotion to 60 Hz. Unfortunately, this hasn't done anything for me. I feel like there has to be someone who's had the same thing and got it solved. Let's hope...

More details about the computer I'm using:
MacBook Pro 14-inch (2023), Apple M2 Pro, 16 GB RAM, MacOS Tahoe 26.3.1 (a)

Better in summer?

I've been going through hell from November until a couple of weeks ago. My days are still pretty rough, but it's limited to one to three intense outbursts a day. This compared to full days of agony when it was colder. I've heard some people's symptoms are manageable when the temperature goes up, so I'm wondering if some people have noticed it going away (or partially) in the warmer months of the year? And when did it come back?

Hate speech on social media, protect your mental health

I'm probably not the only one here who gets upset about social media comment sections filled with dogwhistles (we all know this one: 🧃 for example), overt antisemitic takes, conspiracy theories about "the Jews controlling everything" and I could go on for hours if I went over all the hate speech that gets thrown in our faces on a daily basis. It's hurtful and frustrating to see how many people are hateful and/or misinformed.

Part of why I called it frustrating is because I always feel a push to respond. When someone posts the juice emoji about a crime that was not committed by Jews I want to tell them Jews had nothing to do with it, when someone says we use the word goy as a slur I want to explain that means nothing but non-Jew. The worst one is when they question the holocaust or the extent to which it happened. All I want to do is just educate them on what really happened. And I catch myself writing whole paragraphs to respond to a comment by a random anonymous person on TikTok.

I told somebody about this frustration, and she gave me great advice I want to share with you.

She reminded me of the fact that, whatever you want to do or say, those people want you to be angry or upset. Even if they end up agreeing with you when you explain something, they're never going to admit that. We're not going to change the world by trying to make people understand that what they're doing or saying is not okay.

A lot of people are just hard core antisemites who are very excited to have a free pass to spew hate now that they can cover that up by saying "this was about Israel, not Jews". Another part of them are just ragebaiting bullies, who love to "trigger" people. A lot of them are kids, giggling about how people fell for the bait. Conspiracy theorists are going to tell you you were brainwashed anyway. They're probably convinced they're right. In all these cases (and all the others that exist) there is no way whatever we try to tell them is going to change anything. How social media polarised the world is devastating, but I don't think this is going to get better.

So in short: whenever you feel like typing a comment, think to yourself if it's going to be useful. If it's not, I think it's worth to protect your mental health by realising that whatever you do is going to end up in them hurting you even worse. None of this to silence ourselves, but to protect ourselves from antisemitic hate.

I hope this can be beneficial to some of you who feel the same kind of need to defend yourself in a social media comment section. If not, I don't intend this to be THE way to deal with this. But it made me a lot happier.

Shabbat Shalom ✡️

Waiting for clearance... is this right?

Hi everyone,

I've been waiting for a package that I initially thought would arrive within days. Processing and everything went fine and was very swift, but it's apparently still being assessed by customs now 16 days later. It's a very insignificant thing I bought that shouldn't require a lot of inspection and I've ordered from the UK before (to The Netherlands) without any issues. So I'm starting to think there's something wrong. The delivery partner (PostNL) does not know my package exists and I don't know if Royal Mail is still "in charge" of the process. I don't know who to call or contact about this. I'm starting to worry it may not arrive at all...
