Time to move on

As much as I hate to see it go, it is time for me to send my 124 to a new home.

Any advice on where to sell it? eBay? BaT? Auction house? Forums I don’t know about?

Best Camera Setup for Baseball?

I want to get multiple angles of HD camera footage at my son’s games. Any suggestions on a camera setup that would be ideal? I don’t mind spending a decent amount of money for multiple cameras.

What velocity is needed to pretty much guarantee a college scholarship?

I know pitching is WAY more than just fastball velocity.

Still, is there a pitching velocity a high school senior can have which will practically guarantee him a college scholarship?

And, if yes, how is that different between D1, D2, and D3?

Northern Utah - When your riding mower breaks and you have to crosscut 8 acres with a push mower.

That was Saturday. Didn’t even finish. Had to do another 46,622 steps on Sunday.

Why are Utahns terrified or resentful of the zipper merge?

I’ve lived all over the world and in several U.S. states.

Utahns seem uniquely hateful toward the zipper merge. It’s like they think they are being taken advantage of. Or maybe they’re scared to do it?

It’s the law! It’s the most effective way to merge!

Embrace the zipper merge!

I’m at a loss (Salt Lake City)

A friend sent me this photo this morning, asking for help. I have never seen anything like this. And I’ve seen a lot of lawn issues.

Silly string from kids? Female dog with a two gallon bladder? Aliens?

Playing from divots is such a silly final stand for the rules of golf.

Tee up the ball. Fix ball marks. Tap down spike marks. Embedded ball relief. Allowed to wipe mud off ball on the green. Flags can stay in now. Relief from casual water. Etc…

But if you are playing in the U.S. Open and the course is set up to purposely funnel every drive on some holes to like 100 square feet, and your ball comes to rest in a divot, play it as it lies.

So, so silly.

I would like to learn more about the Delta Force. I also don’t want to waste my time on crappy books.

Are there any books y’all would recommend that would be a good start?

Ideally, a mix of history, technical, and cool stories. But I’ll take whatever I can get.

Blackhawk Down was terrific, of course, but I’d like to go further.

Huge thanks.

Don’t get me wrong. Player health is incredibly important. And I know the reason why limiting pitch counts could make some sense.

But they don’t. It’s a pretty pointless way of addressing the issue.

And I’m not talking about high school and beyond. I’m talking 14U and below.

- No one measures their pitch counts at practice.
- No one measures how many pitches they throw with a private pitching coach.
- No one measures their pitch counts in the backyard with their brother
- No one measures their pregame warmup pitch counts
- No one measures how many throws they’ve made in the infield or outfield that week.

If you don’t measure those things, which are definitely under coach supervision at higher levels, the number of pitches in games is sort of irrelevant.

My son just turned 14. He is 6’2” and 190lbs. Max fastball is 83mph.

Why do I limit his pitches? Because he has a few mechanics issues and o need to fix those before letting him go more than 50-60 pitches in a game. But I also know how much he throws in every other scenario.

There are other players who can easily throw 200 pitches in a week. How do I know that? Because they do every week just in practices alone!

In the end, the only thing that will prevent arm fatigue is for coaches to take that seriously, help monitor their total arm usage in non-pitching scenarios, and make wise decisions to keep their players healthy.

It’s wild we let teams refuse to share their stats in Gamechanger.

In high school, college, and pros you have every stat shared.

But we let “travel” teams hide them?

We all know that the job market sucks. And that applying to 1,000 jobs just doesn't work.

Even on LinkedIn where it is supposed to work the best.

So, I want to share the simplest and most effective way to use LinkedIn to get a job.

  1. Don't email your network and ask for general help. They won't really know how to help. After all, what are they supposed to do? Just post that they have a friend who needs a job? That doesn't work.

  2. Instead, get the links to 10 jobs for which you really want to interview. In fact, it doesn't even need to be the links to the jobs. Just the links to the LinkedIn profile of those companies.

  3. Send a message to 10 people in your network. Ask them if they are connected to anyone at those companies. It will take them less than 3 minutes to click, check, and reply if they know anyone. If they do, there is a 90% chance they will be willing to refer you to the person at that company. From there, it's on you to secure the interview.

I have shared this with countless connections and dozens have taken me up on it. I have not once failed to get them an interview if I did have a 1st connection to someone at one of the companies they sent me.

Anyway, hang in there. The job market really is rough. I hope this helps.

My nephew is transferring to TTU in the fall. He's on a mission trip so asked me to help him with research. What are the best off campus apartments that are within walkign distance to campus? I have been looking at Raiders Pass and Park East but honestly I can't see that many differences between those and like a dozen others. He is a social kid, but won't know anyone at Tech so it would be good for it to be a place with a good social scene. If that's what it is called these days.
