How can Insurance be Haram?

Apparently, it is haram because we are paying for a service that we may not even use or need. That is true in some cases, like when people have paid for pet insurance their pet’s whole life, but when their pet gets sick and the treatment is expensive, the insurance company refuses to pay out. Then you have types of insurance that are absolutely worth it, for example, gadget insurance, where you pay to cover the electronics in your home, or health insurance in case you get injured. Life insurance etc

Guys, I’m talking about Western insurance, and I just want direct answers. There is no shared pot or group of people involved. I’m talking about services offered by companies, such as health, dental, gadget and travel insurance.

The way I see it, you are paying for the service of protection for that month, whether you need to make a claim or not. I don’t see the gharar because the monthly fee is fixed, so you know exactly how much you are paying.

I’m also not sure how it violates maysir. The insurance company sets a price that it considers fair, and I evaluate whether the protection offered is worth that price. I’m paying for security, not betting on something going wrong or expecting to make a claim.

Out of the Big Six Manchester United is the only club with a sponsorship deal with a gambling brand.

Why would we partner with an unethical brand that has ruined lives? And for only £20 million a year. Couldn't we find a major sponsor and offer everything as one big commercial package instead?

  • Just to clarify we're the only club of the Big 6 with a gambling sponsor on our shirt.

US Somali restaurant game needs to level up

UK Somalis have done a great job getting Somali food the recognition it. Allahumma barii for that

Then you look at some Somali restaurants in the US, serving soor with spinach 🫤, labelled as ugali, alongside dry goat meat. Come on. That dish should be a secret

I also don't understand why some Somali restaurants are serving Ethiopian food as part of their menu. I'd rather see more focus on showcasing Somali cuisine in its own right.

One thing I really appreciate about London restaurants like Sabiib is how they've modernised Somali food without losing its identity. They've made it more appealing and marketable

I did come across one Somali restaurant in the US that looked great but it was marketed as Mediterranean food instead of Somali 👎🏻

I need ideas how to get decent at css to the point i can recreate sites on dribble etc.

My goal is to get to the level where I can write production level CSS. Right now, I'm just watching tutorials and writing alongside them. I understand what's being written, but it gives me a false sense of confidence that I know it. But I don't, because when I try to challenge myself, I get stuck quickly.

How do I to the stage where I can build my own programs?

Right now, I understand the syntax and can solve basic programming problems. However, if you asked me to build a specific program from scratch, I wouldn't know where to begin without looking at someone else's code.

Stop trying to insert Somali into everything

This is for those who start their comments on other subs, forums, or random places with, "As a Somali..."

Being Somali isn't relevant to the discussion, and it doesn't make your point any more valid.

What do you guys think of the Lily Jay situation?

With all the evidence against her, I'm still wondering why Muslims are defending her and making a hundred excuses for her. Instead of answering the tough questions about the charities she's been involved with, she's gone into hiding.

Is it because she's a white revert that some Muslims are going head over heels to defend her? Why do we, as Muslims, seem to show more compassion and patience towards reverts, but not towards our fellow born Muslims who are struggling? We have unlimited patience for one group but not the other.

This girl, Lily Jay, became popular even before she converted. She built a huge Muslim audience simply by reading the Quran as a non hijabi. How did she cultivate such a large Muslim following? We get excited over the most minimum.

It also feels like she gets away with things that other Muslim sisters would be heavily criticised for.

I feel like the diaspora has done more harm than good for Somalia

We've got Somalis who are changing lives with the privilege they've been given and the struggles their parents went through to get them there. They're pushing the Somali brand forward, representing us well, and inspiring others to do the same.

https://reddit.com/link/1uq86hz/video/0remgdmwfvbh1/player

Then you have the biggest bums, who've achieved nothing and can't even speak Somali, trying to meddle in Somalia's affairs from abroad instead of focusing on the local politics that actually affect them. They contribute nothing but division.

https://x.com/SMSSomaliTV1/status/2074250775287447604

It's only a matter of time before Somalia distances itself from the section of the diaspora that does nothing but promote division and damage our name. Instead of contributing to the country's progress, they only create more conflict. Unfortunately, in the diaspora there are lot less people like Dr. Amina Hersi

Rubio, King Charles hail Somalia on National Day

Mogadishu (Somalia Today) — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Britain’s King Charles III congratulated Somalia on its 66th National Day, as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged citizens to defend unity and protect the country’s fragile gains.

Somalia marks July 1 as the anniversary of the 1960 union between the former British Somaliland protectorate and the Italian-administered Trust Territory of Somalia, which together formed the Somali Republic.

The anniversary comes as Somalia continues a long-running campaign against Al-Shabaab, pushes political reforms and seeks to strengthen relations with key international partners.

US support

“On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people and Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia on your 66th National Day,” Rubio said in a statement

“The United States stands with the Somali people in their fight against terrorism, corruption, and in their efforts to build a more prosperous future,” he added.

“On this anniversary, I look forward to the year ahead and to working together to advance peace.”

Washington remains one of Somalia’s most important security and diplomatic partners, supporting the federal government as it battles the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab insurgency.

The group has waged a deadly campaign for nearly two decades, carrying out attacks on government, civilian and military targets despite pressure from Somali forces and international partners.

Somalia has also been working to rebuild state institutions after decades of conflict, while managing tensions between the federal government, regional administrations and opposition figures.

Royal message

King Charles, in a message addressed to Hassan Sheikh, said he and Queen Camilla sent their “heartfelt congratulations and warmest good wishes” to the Somali president and people.

“This day serves as a valued opportunity to reflect upon the enduring friendship between our nations,” the King said.

“I am deeply encouraged by the strength of our bilateral ties and remain committed to fostering even closer cooperation in the years to come,” he added.

The British monarch also pointed to shared global challenges, “particularly those concerning the climate and the preservation of our natural world”.

He said he hoped Somalia and Britain would continue to work together “in pursuit of meaningful and lasting solutions”.

Somalia has faced repeated climate shocks in recent years, including droughts and floods that have displaced communities, damaged livelihoods and deepened humanitarian needs.

Britain, the former colonial power in what is now northern Somalia, has maintained close diplomatic, humanitarian and development ties with Mogadishu.

Call for unity

At home, Villa Somalia said Hassan Sheikh joined citizens gathered for national celebrations ahead of National Independence and Unity Day.

Addressing the crowd, the president praised the “unity, solidarity, and peaceful spirit” shown by young Somalis.

He said such unity and social cohesion were essential to safeguard Somalia’s stability and advance national development.

Hassan Sheikh called on Somalis to “unite our minds, our strength, and our collective resolve to safeguard our hard-earned gains and together achieve the lasting prosperity we aspire to.”

Somali leaders have often used Independence Day to appeal for unity in a country still grappling with political divisions, insecurity and the legacy of state collapse.

The federal government says it has made progress in the fight against Al-Shabaab while also advancing constitutional, electoral and security reforms.

But the country still faces major challenges, including militant attacks, clan tensions, poverty, unemployment and the need to complete the rebuilding of national security forces.

The July 1 celebrations follow the June 26 anniversary of the independence of the former British Somaliland protectorate, which joined with the south five days later.

For many Somalis, the two dates remain symbols of independence, statehood and the ambition for national unity.

Somalia confirms Turkish F-16 Airstrikes Killed 35 Al-Shabaab Militants in Lower Shabelle

The Somali government has confirmed for the first time that Turkish F-16 fighter jets carried out airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab positions in the Lower Shabelle region, in an operation conducted in support of the Somali National Army.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said the strikes targeted Al-Shabaab bases in the Godey area of Lower Shabelle, hitting locations used by the militant group.

According to the ministry, “at least 35 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and several others wounded during the operation” . The government also said the airstrikes “destroyed facilities where the group had stored weapons and explosive materials” .

The casualty figures and damage assessments have not been independently verified.

The Somali government expressed its appreciation to Türkiye for supporting the operation, saying the airstrikes were carried out in coordination with the Somali National Army as part of ongoing efforts to combat the militant group.

Türkiye remains one of Somalia’s key international security partners, providing military training, defence assistance, and aerial support to Somali forces in operations against Al-Shabaab as the government continues its campaign to reclaim territory and weaken the group’s operational capabilities.

Why are people lying about Sacdiya?

Sadiya wasn’t arrested for her comments, she was arrested for organizing and participating in a mob. People keep twisting the story to make it seem like she was jailed simply for speaking out, which is misleading.

If she had not been arrested, the momentum of the angry crowd could have continued and created more instability, opening the door for exploitation, exactly the kind of political opportunism the opposition later tried to create around her arrest.

After being jailed, she gave interviews to international media to draw global attention. In one interview with The Guardian, she claimed she was stripped naked by guards, beaten, tortured, denied food, and held in solitary confinement.

Narrative built around her case was not just misleading, it was deliberate misinformation used to generate sympathy and international pressure. She later admits in court she lied.

I do think 3 years is excessive, but she’s not some innocent girl who was arrested just for her views. She chose to get involved politically and ended up paying the full price for it.
