What’s fun to do in Geneva?

I’m from central NY and passed through there for the first time on the way to Watkins Glen. Would love to visit again.

Place looks like a gem! It’s so clean and picturesque! Was astounded by the amount of wineries there.

Also, might have been an illusion, but what was that structure on middle of the lake? It kind of looked like a small island. Is that a factory near the shore or a power plant?

Paint removal from LVT?

Has anyone tackled paint removal from newly installed LVT? I’m able to remove it with a razor, but it’s very time consuming.

Was thinking of using the industrial strength Goof-Off, but afraid of damaging the protective layer.

Does anyone else have and tricks to get it off?

Acid etch repair?

Pretty sure there's no way to reverse or 'clean up' acid etching, right?

Customer had the metal perimeter frames on his windows repainted. The painters by the looks of it prepped the metal with acid and didn't protect the glass. Now there's what looks like drips on the glass that you can run your fingernail into. Anyway to repair this or maybe just remove the haze the acid created? I was thinking steel wool.

Kind of a weird week. Another customer did a construction cleanup via their contractor and utterly destroyed the tint on brand new windows. I know there's no cure for that. Hope they had insurance!

Autobody overcharge...

New York

Shop had truck 2 years for repair which had frame damage. Basically quoted me $3500, but via text. Halfway through at year one they said the box (that was originally repairable) needed to be replaced. Ok, I had a newer one from a junk yard delivered for $2k, body shop said it was basically brand new. Still crickets on the repair.

Another year passes and they send me pics of it being done, come pick it up. I stop by and now it's $6k total for the repairs. They sent it out to have the frame work done somewhere else (instead of inhouse) claiming that was $2k. They didn't tell me about that or ask for my approval.

So basically I lost 2 years of depreciation, had to buy another vehicle to use in its place and I wasn't informed of any price changes. Do I have to pay $6k when when none of these issues were any fault of my own? I actually called my lawyer and he said I can send them a letter compelling them to honor the original price, but I don't think they'll care and he didn't say if I had a legal leg to stand on. Do I?

Anyone use community solar?

I’m not even sure if this is live yet. I see some other community solar projects you can join to save ‘up to’ 10% off your National Greed bill.

Does anyone participate in these types of program and see a benefit?

Can Adobe Acrobat take screenshots like Windows Snipping tool?

I need something like Windows Snipping tool to take an area of the screen, capture it and save it as a .pdf. In researching Adobe Acrobat everything I read and videos I watch are saying you can do this with an Adobe Acrobat document, but I'm not seeing anything that says you can do that from any ole image.

Any advice? Thanks!

Recommended apps to turn me into a bookkeeper??

Just started using Xero and was wondering what everyone recommends to help me with bookkeeping for my business? My actual bookkeeper quit and I have a decent amount of knowledge from using QB, but I'd like to automate as much as possible dealing with:

Checking account and credit card reconciliation.

Re-invoicing past due balances on customer invoices.

Paying sales tax to the state.

Inventory.

Thanks!

Thoughts on swiffers in bathroom?

Quite a few of the bathrooms we deal with involve shelving, lights, etc that require dusting.

A Swiffer would make quick work of it, but I’m thinking it’s going to end up a cross contamination issue.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?

Can super glue be removed from exterior finish?

A friend of mine was trying to repair his gas door with superglue (yeah I know!) and got some on the finish. Do you guys know what could remove this without damaging the paint?

Thanks!

Does anyone cool their 2nd floor with their basement air?

My 2nd floor is a converted attic (I guess) and my basement stays very cool all summer long. Since heat rises is there anyway to 'pump' the cool air from the basement up to the 2nd floor? I'm not sure what this would even be called.

In the winter likewise the 2nd floor (it's spray foamed) stays at a pretty constant 70 degrees (I'm in NY). Could the 2nd floor air be pumped down to the 1st floor and basement?

Has anyone switched from QBD to Xero?

I'm looking to switch away from QuickBooks Desktop to another accounting program and Xero looks pretty good. I see there's some issues with the server and not being able to connect to Xero.

Other than that for those that have switched from QBD to Xero, what's your experience been like?

O.S.C. Pathfinder series

Never posted in here before, so here goes nothing! I wanted to talk about Orson Scott Card's Pathfinder series, but have yet to find anything on Reddit. I know there's a lot of people that don't like him, but I've never honestly looked up why.

Anyway, I know the books are 10+ years old, but after having only read the 1st one quite a while ago I went ahead and picked them back up.

>!I'm really confused on the 2nd book when Rigg's party encounters the Odinfold's. If I'm understanding things correctly there was already human life on Garden before Ram arrived and the Expendables lied to RAM about what was on the surface and then went ahead and destroyed all living things on the planet?!<

Any recommendations for liability insurance?

We are a service (commercial cleaning) company looking for suggestions on liability insurance.

Like everyone else our rates keep climbing despite not having any claims in 20 years of operation. Plus my agent is an ass :)

Currently using Dryden, used Leather Stocking prior. The big hurdle seems to be we do floor refinishing and not many want to cover that.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Commercial windows & furniture polish?

Is this some kind of tiktok hack? Saw another window cleaner using it on the job site, but didn't see what for. I'm guessing maybe to dress up the window frames? Anyone have an idea?

Am I insane/is there a better way!?!?

So on the left is a rose bed with stone and landscaping fabric underneath. On the right is the same flower bed except I removed all the stones. I took the stones and started washing them on the screen on the orange bucket. There was an unbelievable amount of organic material mixed with the stone.

On the right I laid down cardboard and started to put down the cleaned stones.

Farther to the right and not pictured are some big ass 100’ pine trees that don’t belong to me.

So my question is - is this the only way to renew the stones and rid all the organic material that makes it look like crap?

Prior to the stones I use to use mulch, but squirrels continually dive bomb it creating holes for their nuts and weeds spring up from there. I thought stones would cut down on maintenance, but it hasn’t. When I try to blow out or hose out the material from the stones is just washes them away.

I’d appreciate any advice :)

I'm listening to Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card and like 4-5 chapters in someone else starts narrating. Then the next chapter it goes back to the original narrator and then it switches again. They have voices that are no where near being similar and it's quite a jarring experience.

Why would a recording do this?
