Trouble with science and culture victories

Hey all!

Since ToT rolled out, I’ve snagged a few military and economic victories. I cannot, for the life of me, get ahead in science or culture victory points. Any general advice? Just assume I’m clueless lol. I have heard that science is very difficult since ToT dropped.

Thank you!

I feel like I messed up my entire life

I left a job (that I hated) as a captain in the fire department in 2023, taking over a community college paramedic program. I used that time to obtain a masters degree in healthcare management, which I thought would give me a leg up in life.

Instead?

My pension didn’t transfer like it should have.

My old boss didn’t have time for me, or anyone else really, so they added a position in between us. My new boss is an absolute micromanager, and a nasty person. I already didn’t like this job, now I’m more miserable than I was as a paramedic.

I have significant mental health issues compounding my misery, and I feel that I’ve completely ruined my life. I can’t even get people to read my resume. Everything is an automatic rejection, despite my multiple degrees, leadership and management experience, technical skills, and generally outgoing and previously positive attitude.

I no longer feel like I have any good options. I am trying desperately to support three children while my wife is in NP school for another 18 months. I’m at the end of my rope folks. Everything is terrible, and I need an adult. I never should have left the fire service… at least everyone seemed to like me, I had a great mentor, and I was climbing up the career ladder.

What do I do?

Trouble with specialists

Hey all!

I seem to be producing specialist spots with no yields very frequently since the ToT update. I clearly don’t understand the mechanism; any references to where I can dive into this better? Or ELI5?

Iceland unlock question

The unlock criteria is “first to discover a natural wonder.”

To clarify: is this the first to discover each natural wonder (multiple people can get the unlock if there are multiple natural wonders) or only the first to discover the first natural wonder gets it?

I assume it’s the former, but the wording is ambiguous and I am mildly curious.

Also, anyone regularly using Iceland? I find the penalties harsh.

Would anyone be interested in a Harford County paranormal club?

I have basically no roadmap for this, but I’m a huge enthusiast and would be willing to spearhead it if anyone is interested. Just like people getting together and talking, maybe a book club type aspect too. Not really looking to go play ghost hunter or anything like that. Looking for some chill people who like ufology, hauntings, cryptids, etc. 👻 👽 🫈

Infantry bug?

Last night as the Ottomans, I kept building janissaries that never appeared. Now it’s warriors as the Maurya. Anyone else aware of this?

Cities and Specialists

Hey all,

I have seen cities which are all urban ties and no food. Are they just getting their food from specialized towns? Otherwise, how can they support themselves?

Also, can you move or reassign specialists from tile to tile?

Thanks!

I think we lost the thread in 2017, and I think that was intentional.

If you have been following ufology for 30-40 years like I have, you have probably seen a lot of changes in the field during that time. Now, no one is an expert (especially the talking heads) and few know what happens behind the closed doors of U.S. government or government contractor labs, but I think we have allowed those people to dupe us.

Prior to 2017, the federal government was seen with a significant amount of distrust and suspicion by the UFO community. Suddenly, we had some cool new videos, and people started thinking that disclosure was coming; this was rapidly accelerated by later events such as the Friday document drops. Trust in the government in reference to ufology seems to have skyrocketed, this is not a good thing.

Before 2017, ufology was dominated by the classic researchers looking at what the phenomenon was: Vallee, Keel, Freidman, and so many others, who were all looking at what the nature of these events were. There was effort expended into looking at what the government or its contractors knew, and there were whistleblowers like Col. Phillip Corso. Still, it felt different, and the government/its agents was treated with suspicion.

Now, in 2026, we are saturated with “UAP influencers,” alleged whistle blowers (with no evidence), and other talking heads with seemingly no knowledge of the history of the subject. These talking heads are controlling the narrative and are pushing the UFO community towards something that they want. This is not the natural growth of the topic; this is a controlled narrative that we should not trust.

Maybe I am just getting old and maybe I resist change more than I realize. I do not think this is it; I think that something or someone is fundamentally controlling the narrative and sewing divide within ufology. I do not really know that we are fundamentally closer to the truth than we were 25 years ago. Maybe they are almost willing to admit that something is out there, but I do not expect to get the whole truth from them. All I am saying is that we, as a community, should be careful where we place our trust.

Thank you for reading my rambling wall of text. Also, in before “the government isn’t a monolith,” which I do understand that argument. Still, I think things are compartmentalized in such a way that the only people who really know the whole truth (if there are any such people) are so few and so removed from regular society (rich and isolated) that we will not be getting anything from those folks.

Looking for a specific movie with a person eating roaches

This is going to be tough, but it traumatized me as a kid in the mid-90s. Basically, all I remember is that a person was in a very bare concrete prison-type cell with openings around the bottom. Roaches started pouring in and the person started frantically eating them. Still sticks in my head 30 years later!

I don’t know what to do about my son

Three time dad here; ages 8, 4, and 1.5. My 4-year-old son is a terror at home. In preschool he is generally okay, but at home his anger is explosive. He is so mean, he hits, finds it funny when people get hurt, and he screams at people. He goes to time out when directed, but he finds that funny, too.

We are trying to find a therapist, but it isn’t easy. I try to talk to him about these issues before, during, and after each episode, but it seems to have no impact. Any advice would be welcome.
