(help settle an argument) which is correct - "the park" or "the field"?
I'll just call us person A and person B.
Person A is arguing that "the park" is specifically the area with swings and a slide. All of the other grass outside that is "the field".
Person B is arguing that "the park" is the whole grassy recreational area. The part with the swings and the slide would be "the play park".
So for example if you told person A "let's go for a picnic at the park" they would think you meant "a picnic inside the area for set aside for children that has swings and play equipment". Person B would think you meant "a picnic somewhere inside the grassy recreation area at large".
Please resolve this very silly point of contention (we're not really arguing it's just funny that neither of us can see the others' point of view! We are from different parts of the country so maybe it's a regional thing?)
