I've lost the first working bulletjournal i had managed to get fond of...

I'm feeling lost.

After a year of failing to find the "way" of keeping a notebook i'd love and feel invested in, i've been having two great months where i ended up finding a great system and lists i really depended on, poured my heart in, everything was a beautiful chaos.

I dropped my brain in it.

And yesterday it must have fallen from my jacket's pocket. I have no idea where, i've retraced my steps but now one found it.

I feel like crap honestly. I have no idea how i'm going to recuperate all of that... my future log, my monthly even, my long curated and precise lists and release dates of books, movies, tv shows, magazines i want to consume in the future, my two months tracking of different really useful data. The little nuggets of personal wisdom, all of that... just like losing a part of me really.

How did you handle this loss if you experienced it ?

So distraught right now.

IWTL what to do with my annotations on non-fiction books.

So here we are, i've tried to dust out my brain and start a path of self-learning.
Took a book a love the subject of, read it all and highlighted a ton of things on my ereader.
I exported the annotations and now have a massive wall of things i like but don't know what to do with.
I've only just realized how highlighting things is just a cognitive illusion and i haven't assimilated much at the end.
I want to learn how to really integrate a book in my core system, how does it come down to ; "Alright i understood it and now i firmly grasp and believe this, this and this."

Alright it's in my commonplace now. What do i do ?

I took these quotes for a reason. They spoke to me, but i just don't know how to appropriate them, make them be a part of me.
Do you just note them there and read them over and over or... ?

How deep do you go when writing the backstory of your starting characters ?

Are you more into scaffolding just enough to flesh it out over the run of the game or do you tend to go in a lengthy backstory with precise details before even rolling a dice ?

I'm frozen, sitting in front of my desk, unable to start.

Hello,

So i've just been through a period of fixing my sleep. It's the first time in a while that i have a somehow normal night (1am to 7am) so i'm finally awake during the day, ready to take advantage of it.
As soon as i woke up i pushed myself to put on my shoes and go out to have a 30min walk and bask in the sun to start the day fresh and help my brain setting up for the next night's sleep by regulating my internal clock.

But now that i'm sitting and watching the things i could do at my desk, my brain is irked by the idea of starting anything.

I'm in holidays so i don't have pressure as to what i could do.

I could read one of my 30ish to-be-read remaining books, start a solo boardgame, write in my journal, study for sound engineer certification due in October, do some creative writing, play a solo roleplaying pen and paper game, set up my new monthly spread in my bullet journal, do some crochet...

There are a lot of things i love to do but thinking about any of them just feels like some pain receptors are being activated in my brain.

I've been in therapy for 5years, it helped with a lot of stuff but we haven't touched on the subject. I intend to tap into this soon with me therapist but i'd hate to waste that day.

Any immediate tips i could try ? What works for you all ?

Thank you !

A spacefaring type of novel.

Hi,

I need a book that really satisfies this itch i got from playing an rpg called Astroprisma. In there we're a spacefarer taking on missions ranging from piracy, transporting cargo, saving crews of stranded ships, bounty hunting and more. We're a bit good chaotic with flexible morals but still have some empathy in the right context. It's also a slice of life kind of game where we encounter multiple events and go through a lot of adventures in sprawling universe.
The setting is pretty much : Humanity destroyed itself a long time ago and scattered across a new system. No unity, factions ranging from the typical rebel militia, the transhumanist semi-android people who want the cybersphere to take over reality, the international space federation that acts a bit like the one in star trek, etc etc..

They're divided among three rings, the inner, middle and outer ring where the most central one is the more densely populated and most inhabitate huge space stations, and then the further we go the more the system becomes lawless.

Jut giving you a bit of context but i feel like it could be helpful to find similar setting and protagonists.

I hope this helps thanks !

Did you fall into the trap of trying to write prose ?

Newbie here.

Can't let go of this ego thing where i need to write a freaking scifi novella when playing Astroprisma.

My prose is bad i miss a lot of synonyms and it frustrates me but i really want to have some lore !

How do you guys go about this ??

The Dungeon crawler ?

Has any book went to great length to make a dungeon crawler that proposes an insane amount of weapons, magic and abilities ? I'd love to get this feeling of a character that gets absolutely brutal and packed with powers with enemies that scale properly to this rise in power.

Am i not meant for solo roleplaying if i want strong mechanics, minimal journaling, lots of handholding and a gamey feeling to the play ?

The closest i've seen so far is Astroprisma, feels like a light crpg, i like the idea of the story being prepared with lots of choices to choose from and strong mechanics for combats or discovery where everything needs a dice roll with multiple stats and equipments and such. Is it still in the realm of solo_roleplay ?

Edit : Hey everyone, i've received too many notifications, i can't answer to all of this so i answered to what helped me the most so thank you all and sorry if you don't get an answer right away, i'll catch up slowly through the weekend.

I did end up going for Astroprisma and i'm having a blast.

Limited imagination and brevity.

Hello !

First of all i hope this doesn't rub anyone the wrong way. I am a complete beginner and about to start Starforged, i got the digital core book, the playkit and the rules summary downloads. I've printed the assets and roughly cut them.

Anyway, i've watched a lot of videos and one thing i know is that i am not meant for deep story creation, and i would love a smoother experience that doesn't push me to write pages worth of story everytime i go into a new scene, because i do love the setting and the mechanics of this game.

Is there a way to make it more swift ? Still imagining my situations while being more brief like i am in my bullet journal.
For example let's imagine (remark that i'm skipping a lot of steps and just think of putting the big lines of the scene) :

-Entered an icy cave

-Oracle: hostile lifeform

-Miss on Face Danger

-Pay the Price = ambushed ?

-Got out by the skin of my teeth

-Lost an arm

Would that be limiting in some ways for example when the story happens to need some details that i simply didn't bullet noted ? Or maybe something i can't foresee because i haven't played the game yet...

Also, and once again i don't know anything, but it seems like this Oracle mechanic could actually help me with a lot more in order to go in that direction. Are there fan-made more consequent Oracle tables to add in that could expand my need for a smooth gameplay where i don't have to spend half the time trying to make up a story in great detail ?

Any other way for people like me with limited imagination and lack of time to write full journals worth of story ?

Using a precise example i want to understand how to digest the knowledge i put in my commonplace book.

Let's say i'm about to start reading a book about AI.

I'm not interested in using AI but rather learn about it, how it came to be, how it works, how it is affecting society in different ways.

Okay that's the goal. Now how do i go about it ?

I finish the book, I annotated everything that felt relevant. Then i transcribe these annotations in my commonplace book.

But i might end up with a LOT of things.

Does it confuse you once you have all of that ? How do you end up remembering all of these things ?
I'm not clear on what to do afterward ? Do i just read it regularly ? Is it how you keep these things in your head ?

Day Two and already losing a bit of sparkle

So i got the core box and a random hero pack from a second hand seller yesterday. (dr strange).
I've been playing with spider-man pre-built deck 3 times against Rhino. Then one time Dr Strange pre-built. And then both of them. Always Rhino, which i finally beat during this two-handed game.

I'm not there yet but i'm starting to lose a bit of the initial excitement.

What could i do from here to make the game more exciting ?
And do any of you have little ways of challenging yourselves to make it last ?

How did you solve the problem of forgetting to take your notebook with you when you go out or simply just forgetting to write in it during the day ?

I'm a bit ADHD and forget things easily unless they're truly a habit already.

DOes that seem like a good deal ?

Hey,

I mean the price is super good but i don't know the boxes except Enter the void which is the one i would have started with anyway. I know this is going to go real fast and i'm out so i won't have time to check videos for the three others.

Could anyone share an index to clear things up for me ?

Hey, so i'm about to start my bujo following the method of ryder carroll, i couldn't buy the book but took what i could from his website and videos and that's a lot of things to digest.

The main thing is that despite knowing which spreads to make, i'm wondering how it looks in the long term, after a few months, especially the Future/Monthly/Weekly logs and the misc things that end up on your Index.

Would anyone feel comfortable to share one of their index pages if there's nothing too private on there so i could get an idea ?

Thank you !

The overall difficulty.

Hey,

I haven't got to try these games yet and I keep seeing a lot of people advising to start with the more basic feature films and saying that some features have a lot of rules and might be too much to start with.

But i'm wondering how that difficulty scales compared to other games. Let's say a euro games enthusiast who is used to handle games with a lot of moving parts and rules, would the most difficult feature films be a challenge to learn at all ? How does it compare ? Given the size of the boxes i can't imagine them to be that complicated am i wrong ?

Left the hobby for a few years after selling everything. Been dipping my toes in for a couple months now and couldn't feel better than i do now that i have a small collection of essentials with each type of games i love.

All i'm missing is an LCG for fun (Marvel Champions) and an oddball (Bullet ⭐️), they're both coming next week.

It feels good to be able to scratch any kind of itch without having to make a choice;

For Northwood! is diabolical <3

For those who played it, you know.
For others, beware this game is cursed. On par with Final Girl haha.

Had all the visits going great for me until those last two.

First pic was just bad luck.
Second pic, the discard pile told me that the only card below mine left was the Blue 2.

I'm distraught.

Love that game.

What are your unluckiest moments in a session ?

Last night i've had two attempts for successes in Arkham Horror 3rd edition. 8 dice each time. 0 success, two times in a row. (for those who don't know, a 5 or 6 is a success).

0.152% chances for this to happen.

Beat that..
