Trying to figure out a turning point in Dalinar's character

When did Dalinar recover from alcohol abuse? He is still using when Gavilar dies, but we don't see him drink in the series proper. I can't recall any portion dedicated to him wrestling with this demon specifically.

Sorry if the spoiler warning is overzealous. I remember knowing that Dalinar was an alcoholic in Way of Kings, but people don't seem to talk about it until Oathbringer, so I may be misremembering.

CMV: Honor should be called Fidelity

Honor really doesn't care that much about most aspects of being honorable. Someone insults your wife? Honor doesn't demand you defend her good name unless you swore to. Lie to everyone you know? Totally cool, unless you swore an oath you wouldn't. Sopmeone does you a good turn? No need to pay them back, unless (say it with me) you swore to.

Aditil's name

I'm halfway through Isles of Emberdark, and Aditil's name is bothering me. Dhatri is obviously a world with strong Indian influence, so it's safe to say that Aditil's name comes from the Sanksrit name Aditi, or maybe the more modern name Aditya. But -til names aren't exactly very Indian. It kind of remeninds me of how the Returned names are meant to sound ancient near-eastern, but can either be an actual ancient Hebrew/Cananite word with a letter or two changed, or something that actually sounds ancient near-eastern. Aditil is clearly from the former type. It's just bothering me a little because the word isn't linguistically Sanskrit, it just has a Sanskrit root.

Blazing Saddles ends in a chase where the chracters race all the way off of the set of the movie. Happy 100th birthday, Mel Brooks!

Community end with a family playing Community the Game before realizing that they are a fake commercial. Lines between perception, desire, and reality might become blurred, redundant or interchangable.

Can God influence elections?

Plenty of people pray for this candidate or that candidate to win. Most religions believe that God gives humanity free will. What good does is there in praying for a certain outcome if God won't change who votes how?

Do Singers stay in mateform while pregnant?

I had assumed that when femalen get pregnant they stay in mateform. I think it's because they have breasts, which means they nurse their babies, and because I read it as a sort of reproduction form. But I realized we never actually see a Singer pregnancy, so I might be making up headcanon that I thought was canon.

Also, I just realized how the title sounds, and I mean no sort of weirdness, it's just something that occured to me.

How do religious people who believe in reincarnation deal with the fact that most people on Earth don't follow their faith? Aren't you very likely to undo any progress your soul makes in this life in your next?

Theory on Unmaking

I think that El had something to do with it. We know from Raboniel in Urithiru that Fused can take a role in an umaking. Here's the thing. Every Unmade is named from a Semitic/Canaanite deity. Who is the father and king of the Canaanite gods? You guessed it. We also learn that he lost his rhythyms because instead of killing the humans, he wanted them "reconditioned. Repurposed" If you think that he can unmake, that carries a very sinister meaning. What if his research was into how to unmake humans? That would be such a blasphemuous use of voidbinding it might even offend the Fused.

What's the actual meaning of pushing and pulling?

I included the Alloy of Law spoilers tag because temporal metals are a part of this, but I'm not talking about plot.

For Steel and Iron it's obvious why they are push and pull, but I can't seem to get a feel on what pushing and what pulling is. Somtimes pushing suppresses the subject (brass,) and sometimes pulling does (cadmium, copper). Sometimes pushing means sensing (bronze), sometimes pulling does (tin).

Does anyone have a clear delineation?

I can't believe it's not magic!

Stuff that is easily mistaken as magic but actually non-magical prowess.

The Apple of Discord - In Greek mythology, Eris, annoyed that she wasn't invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, throws an apple inscribed "to the fairest" into the mix, causing strife between Athena, Aphrodite, and Hera that would eventually lead to the Trojan War. As easy as it is to imagine it as some supernatual artifact, it's totally ordinary, a prop in Eris's manipulation of their vanity.

Mjölnir - Despite what Marvel would have you believe, Thor's hammer is not protected by any special enchantment of worthiness, it's just really, really heavy. To be fair, it does have supernatural powers, and he needs supernatural gauntlets to be strongenough to lift it, but the lifting part is just a mater of weight.

Edit: It's his belt and/or his gauntlets, depending on which version you read. German/Norse legend is a mythology, not a canon.

Headology - Witches in Terry Pratchett's Discworld, especially Granny Weatherwax, use Headology. It's a sort of folk-psychology. She'll tell a sick man to go on a daily pilgrimage to a certain river and appease the river spirits - not because the river spirits can actually help, but because the regular exercise will do him good. IIf someone thinks that they are being chased by monsters, a psychologist might try to convince them that there are no monsters, while granny would give him a big "monster killing bat."

Most of the names babies are given in Genesis are Hebrew wordplay. When I as a Jew read these passages in the Hebrew Torah, it explains how the child's mother came up with his or her name. In an English Bible, how are these explained?
