Prescribed antidepressants as a child? This prominent PhD author wants to hear about it.

My friends, this is another chance for you to directly influence PSSD becoming more mainstream & accepted in the academic field.

Author Gretchen Watson, PhD is researching for her new book: "The Prescription Affliction: Why We Overmedicate Young Minds — And How to Stop It."

She is seeking firsthand stories about what happens when normal childhood distress, behavior, grief, or immaturity is medicalized and given a psychiatric diagnosis followed by drugs.

Stories may be shared anonymously. No identifying information will be included unless you specifically request it.

Lauren's PSSD testimony referenced on The Joe Rogan Experience

Now this just blew my mind- this is the first time PSSD has ever been talked about on the JRE, the most popular podcast in the world, which is something many here have been talking about wanting to see for a long time. I wonder what the odds are of there being a real PSSD interview on his show before long at this point.

Shoutout to Lauren once more for being brave enough to speak about your story. I know the last thing you probably ever wanted to do was show your face to the world about this, but it did wonders for our collective mission.

Your Report Matters!

Everyone must report! The Network now has an improved reporting page. Remember, PSSD has more awareness now than ever only due to patients like you standing up.
https://www.pssdnetwork.org/report-adverse-effects

The US FDA also accepts reports from individuals worldwide. This is the most critical global database for drug safety monitoring. Even If you don't live in the US, report here too!

If you live in the UK, I've made a guide on reporting to the Yellow Card system.

El Pais, a major newspaper in Spain, has published an article on PSSD

This article was made possible by fellow PSSD patient Carmen, who pushed to make this happen.

"PSSD not only affects sexual response, one can also lose the ability to feel emotions in general."

"low sexual desire is not even 1% of what it means to live with this disease"

PBS, America’s largest public TV network, seeks people’s experiences after stopping antidepressants

Here’s another opportunity to make your voice heard where it matters. By sharing your story, you can help to continue putting PSSD on the map. Every article that mentions our condition helps more people learn about the condition, helps more affected and unaware patients realize what has happened to them, and strengthens public validation that PSSD is real. Over time, that growing awareness helps build pressure for proper institutional recognition, research, and support.

For example, the upcoming May update has a lot to highlight - including more clinical offices around the world acknowledging PSSD as real. Each new sign of recognition like these helps to strengthen the foundation for wider awareness and legitimacy.

Let’s keep the momentum going!

r/PSSD Hits 20,000 Members

r/PSSD has hit a milestone of 20,000 members yesterday, May 19, 2026 - which is about 6 weeks ahead of predicted schedule as shown in the PSSD Network 2025 End of Year Update (Where it was actually predicted to only be at 19,800 by the beginning of July.)

On Nov 15, 2023, r/PSSD hit 10,000 members.
By May 19, 2026, it hit 20,000 members.

That’s a span of 916 days.

Looking 916 days before Nov 15, 2023 brings us to May 13, 2021, when r/PSSD had only 2,105 members.

So:

May 2021 → Nov 2023: +7,895 members
Nov 2023 → May 2026: +10,000 members

That means r/PSSD grew 26.7% more in the second 916-day period than in the first.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now here's a fun fact to show how much our awareness efforts are truly working.

When the PSSD Network launched around Sept 1, 2022, r/PSSD had about 5,300 members.
Again, by May 19, 2026, it now has 20,000.

That’s a span of 1,356 days.

Looking 1,356 days before Sept 1, 2022 brings us to Dec 15, 2018, when r/PSSD had only 298 members.

So:

Dec 2018 → Sept 2022: +5,002 members
Sept 2022 → May 2026: +14,700 members

That means the subreddit gained about 194% more members after Sept 2022 than in the previous equivalent period, or nearly 3x as many new members.

The Seattle Times Wants to Know: "Have you taken antidepressants? Tell us about your experience"

Here's another opportunity for patients here to get the word of PSSD out and show the world that we're here, and we exist. Readers also deserve to know that apparently dirty word - "informed consent" - that developing PSSD is a very real possibility for them, and that there would be no support for them should they find themselves in such a situation.

Hypnopompic Hallucinations after discontinuation

Does anyone else experience this only as a result of antidepressants? Only ever since discontinuation a few years ago, some days of the week I will awake and just for a short moment when my eyes are still closed I will see various patterns of shapes, numbers, or letter characters.

To some this may sound like something a crazy person would say, so here's a credible link describing it lol.

April 2026 Update

Hello everyone, and Happy Mother’s Day. Here’s another roundup of news from last month, with more signs that PSSD is continuing to move beyond patient communities and into wider public, medical, and professional awareness.

For newer patients here, remember this: while progress can feel slow, PSSD is no longer confined to isolated forums like it once was not so long ago. It is appearing in more and more media, medical websites and literature, podcasts, and broader conversations about prescribed harm. Each mention, no matter how big or small, helps bring PSSD into the light and make the condition harder to dismiss, easier for patients to point to, and more difficult for institutions to ignore.
