Questions were apparently about their paid memberships. I answered saying that I used to be a member, my age and the size of my family tree (100+) and was then given a message saying I am not their target group for this campaign.

For Those With Bachelor Degrees Who Can’t Get a Job

Do you feel cheated? Or maybe, mad at what was ‘promised’ you - the old ‘a degree will lead to a good job’? I wonder how many job seekers are actually working in a field completely different than what they graduated in. Too many people now with bachelors degrees that it became ‘common’? I don’t know.

Registering a Newborn With a Different Last Name Than Both Parents In AK

Title says it all. Allowed here in AK? I tried finding an official gov website saying it was ok but couldn't find anything. My wife and I would like to use my stepdad's last name instead of mine or hers, that's all.
Thanks in advance!

ELI5. Why is it so hard to find a job even though data shows that our unemployment rate is low?

Unemployment rate is currently at 4%, so why is it so hard to find a job as a new grad?

KeyBank Private Client Banker

Someone I know started a KeyBank recently as a Licensed Private Client Banker - he is apparently still going through initial training. I am not in retail banking any longer so I was wondering if the things he was telling me are ‘standard’ now or if it only applies to KeyBank.

  1. 70% of your PTO for the year has to be scheduled by the end of January. He said that he asked his manager and no one really follows it but that that’s the bank’s policy. I thought it was ridiculous but moving on.

  2. As a licensed banker, his main job is to send referrals to the in-branch financial advisor. He said that, although the recruiter said that he would get paid on every dollar that gets invested as part of his commission, that was a lie because not every investment product qualifies for commission as as he doesn’t control the investment choices per se, he feels like he is kinda screwed.

  3. They allow licensed bankers to work as tellers. He said that their system is from 1980, by the way.

  4. He came in licensed with a S6 and S63 but they are now asking for a health insurance license. When he asked if any of the investment products involved health insurance products, they said no. When he then asked why he would have to then study at own, without getting paid, for a license he won’t use, they said that it was because when they introduced PCBs, they thought it would be a good idea to have the health insurance license. That’s it.

  5. They allow non- licensed bankers to submit investment referrals and pays them a flat $40 fee (finders fee), which creates competition within the branch to send the referral, reducing his chances of sending a referral that could pay him commission.

  6. They don’t call commission - commission. They call it, ‘points’. He finds that sketchy. They said that they aren’t required to pay any commission if they don’t want to, even if it’s earned. When asked, they said that the bank sets aside money for ‘points’ every year and that, although it has never happened, if they were to exhaust that ‘fund’, he wouldn’t be paid commission. He thinks that that’s illegal as they should have to pay commission if commission is earned. We are not lawyers so it’s 100% feelings here.

Anyways, as you can see he is not happy and is currently seeking another opportunity already. I have been trying to tell him to quit retail banking for awhile and this might be it. Is this the new norm?

Why Do Your Work At A Callcenter?

Besides the obvious, why are you still here? I get that we all need money but can’t that same amount of money be made somewhere else? Is it the benefits? The hours? The coworkers?

First Keychron K4, Caps Lock Not Registering All The Time

Hey everyone!
Bear with me, I am new to this and might not know all the terms but will try my best. I bought a Keychron K4 during Prime day to try it out. Received it today and it seemed to be working great initially. I then started to notice that sometimes the caps lock key won’t register. It requires a ‘full press’ (or a longer press) to register This only happens to that specific caps lock key and sometimes, while typing fast, I don’t ‘fully’ press down on the tab key and it ends up not registering.
Is the ‘full press’ normal? Also, I got a ‘budget’ K4, so it’s a non-hot swappable. I removed the cap out and played with the switch. The same happens.
I appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Started a Roth IRA. Would you add anything?

Started a Roth IRA with Merrill Edge not to long ago and was wondering if I was missing anything. I am currently holding these ETFs:
- SPYM for SP500
- VXUS for International exposure
- AVUV for Small cap

I have some cash sitting as cash still and was wondering if I should just add to either one or multiple of these 3 funds or if I should add a 4th fund. I am missing something? Not trying to over complicate things if I don't have to. I plan on continuing to contribute every paycheck besides contributing to my 401(k).
Thank you.

Just started a Roth IRA. Would you add anything?

Started a Roth IRA with Merrill not to long ago and was wondering if I was missing anything. I have around $1k in cash still and was wondering if I should just add to either or multiple of these 3 funds or if I should add a 4th fund. Also, if someone can explain to me what that IIAXX Bank of America thing means, I would highly appreciate it, hahahaha!
Thank you!

Any Ideas of Funds for IRA?

I am new to Merrill Edge and was wondering if you guys had some ideas of ETFs or mutual funds so I can build a simple Roth IRA strategy. I currently only hold SPYM for some SP500 exposure but would like to add some other funds for diversification.
Thank you.

SP500 Funds with Merrill Edge

Hey, I am new to Merrill Edge and was wondering, what are some options for SP500 funds with Merrill Edge? I tried a few common options (such as the FXAIX for example) but it doesn’t let me place a trade saying that those funds are closed for new investments through Merrill. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!

How did Russel go from beloved character at Williams to almost a villain at Mercedes?

Remember when we all wanted to see Russel score points and whatnot when he was driving that tractor of a Williams? And now most of us are happy to see his car break down? What happened and when?!

Should My Wife Cancel Her Whole Life Policy?

Hey everyone!
So back in 2018, through a friend that worked for New York Life and before we knew each other, my wife bought two life insurance policies. One term and one whole. I did some basic research and it does not look like it makes sense for her to have both policies - maybe we would like to keep the term that is cheaper but surrender the whole life one.

  • Whole Life: Death benefit = $25k / Monthly cost = $29 / Net cash value = $1,078
  • Term Life: Death benefit = 225k / Monthly cost = $19

We are a middle class family with a baby, nothing out of the ordinary. The $29 for whole life won't break the bank but does it make sense to have both? She has had those two policies for about 8 years now and I read that it could make sense to wait until she hits the 10-year mark to surrender. I don't think we need the whole life policy at the moment.
Thoughts?
Thank you in advance!

The company has shown interest in extending me a job offer. I do not qualify for paid paternity leave but the PTO is front-loaded, so I plan on using some of that to cover a few weeks after the baby is born.
If I were to actually receive a job offer, should I call the hiring manager and let him know that I plan on using some PTO when the baby is here?
I did mention to the recruiters that my wife was pregnant but did not mention anything to the hiring manager simply because the subject never came up and I totally forgot for a second. The recruiters assured me that it wouldn't be a problem.
It's a small team and I don't want to burn any relationships right after starting a new job, you know?
Thank you in advance!

I just got hired and have a few questions! How long does one have to work for BofA or Merrill before being able to apply for paternity leave and also, is PTO front loaded?
Thank you!

For how long does one need to work for BofA/Merrill (I am assuming is the same?) before getting paid paternity leave? I started not too long ago and was wondering.
Thank you!
