Trans-Cat tent recommendations?

I’m hiking the trans-cat in late October and will probably need a tent for colder/wetter weather. I’ve been looking at the campgrounds I reserved but can’t tell what a good tent option will be.

Normally I’d just “cowboy camp” or use something light for a short trip but I’m worried a trekking-pole tent won’t be feasible on sand or the available spots. Also, a hammock requires trees or space to set up. Also concerned if we get rain…

Advice from those who have experience is welcome!

Tribal Brawl ideas?

I really love tribal Brawl decks. I already have a good elf, goblin, and sliver decks that I have fun with.

What should I build next? Race and Commander.

Pictures to show what I’m working with for wilds.

Alternate clip for eTrex?

I love my 13-year-old eTrex.

My only issue is that when I have it attached to my backpack with the carabiner clip it’s upside down when I wanna look at it.

Are there alternative clips?

Is there a way to flip the screen?

Garmin eTrex 20 still going on adventures!

I bought this in 2013 for Geocaching and hiking. Didn’t have enough money to get a more expensive one with a bigger screen. I also liked that uses AA batteries so you can carry extra really easily. Now I keep it in my truck as the backup to my backup.

After a year or two, I just popped two new batteries into it to make sure it still works. Perfect. Start up, no lag.

All of my old maps work, no subscriptions.

It talks to satellites. It. Talks. To. Satellites. Amazing.

Alien Hives Rapacious Beast

Why is the toughness on this so low? 6 seems super weird given the size of the model (40k Tyranid Harpy)

Any ideas? Should we just buff it to 12 to make it playable?

Yes, and…

Played my first game of Shadowdark yesterday and it was fun.

However:

The GM really struggled with actions outside of the explicit rules, resulting in very repetitive combat and even role playing.

Fighter attempting a Shield bash? No.

Half-orc grabbing a sting bat to bite it? No.

Ranger searching for edible plants? No.

Noble explaining his complicated heredity? No.

Of course, all of this can be fixed by a creative/adaptive GM but because these things (and way more!) aren’t “in the rules” they didn’t happen.

GMs new to the system perhaps need some reminders that Shadowdark is actually a pretty poor end point if you don’t use it as an excellent point of departure.

It’s a perfect “Yes, and…” system.

Edit:

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Just to be clear: we had fun, and the GM did a great job.

In Praise of Ghost Town Alive!

We have had the best experience today with Ghost Town Alive.

My 10 year-old was fully engaged from 10 AM to 4 PM straight through. My other kids were also really into it but peeled off for a while to do some rides. They interacted with every single actor multiple times throughout the day.

Every single interaction was amazing for six straight hours.

Every. Single. Interaction.

The actors were kind patient engaged in character and fun. For six straight hours. At first, when the kids were feeling shy, they were drawn into the story. As the day went on and they got braver the whole experience got even richer. I also got to listen to their interactions with other kids and they were all great. They even made sure to check in to make sure parents and adults were around if a kid was alone or seemed confused.

Even after doing literally everything that was possible they went to bed tonight asking if we could go back tomorrow.

This has to be one of the best theme park events anyone can put on.

If anyone from Knotts follows these threads: Reward an amazing cast, and extend the run for the rest of the year. Phenomenal.

Ghost Town Alive is bumping!

Got here early and did ghost Rider and hang time in the first half an hour and now the kids are running all over Ghost Town having a blast. I think the key to having fun in the summer is to get here around 9 o’clock. Wait in the line to get in but then you don’t have any lines of roller coasters for the first hour or so.

Is the Anniversary edition worth it?

I love frost grave I’ve been playing since the first release and bought everything ever released ever since.

Is the anniversary edition worth picking up? I do wish it had had some additional content.

Ruined Pipeline (First attempt!)

Anybody remember your first piece of terrain, made without any adult looking over your shoulder fussing about “doing it right”? My son (age 10) cooked this up this morning and couldn’t be more pleased!

It’s a “ruined pipeline” that some tyranids got into
