I was on Twitter and I came across a guy who presented his manga, which he himself called an "African manga". The main character was a slightly tanned white man, with a black woman as a teammate. I read the thread: there were many white characters in the pages shown, but few black characters.
I find this process logic so strange. I had already noticed that some often make a black character - usually a woman - while the male character is often a white or very light-skinned man. Why aren't the two characters black?
I think it's because they're trying to target a wider audience, not just black. But I find it problematic, because it gives the impression that a comic that is called African must still have an almost white hero to put white readers at ease.
