What will jobs look like in the 2030s? Are we preparing for careers that won't exist?
Title. Dario Amodei (Anthropic CEO) said a few months ago that more than half of entry-level white-collar jobs could be eliminated by AI within 1-5 years. Not just SWE, all white-collar jobs.
Mark Zuckerberg similarly said that Meta is building AI that could effectively function as a mid-level software engineer, and that eventually much of Meta's code could be written by "AI engineers" rather than human engineers.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy warned Amazon employees that AI will reduce corporate roles over the coming years.
But interestingly, people like Jensen Huang and Sam Altman have argued almost the exact opposite. They say that AI automates tasks while potentially increasing the number of jobs because companies can pursue far more projects.
Naturally, all these figures have their own agendas, and will say whatever generates more profits and hype for their companies. However, I wanted to ask my peers what they think. Will white-collar jobs still be in demand by the time we start our careers (late 2020s / early 2030s)? Or are we in for an unpleasant surprise?

sweats.ai - appraisals?

Expiry Date: 2028-08-11
Could this go for $1k+? It's a single-word, single-syllable, .ai domain that could be appealing to fitness/AI related apps or device/wearable companies. Online appraisals (Atom, Dyna, etc.) range from $15k to $30k, but I know they can be inaccurate. Renewal fees are $80/yr.
Single letter domains?
I know single-letter domains with TLDs like .com, .net, .ai, etc. are basically impossible to get, but I was wondering how much they go for under other TLDs? Is it worth scouring the internet and providers for available single-letter domains, and is the premium upcharge usually worth it?
ad.ms
Thoughts on it? Fwiw, <2 months ago ae.ms sold for over $2.2k.
Bought it today for about 70 USD.
Do you guys think I could get a few grand for it?

Sixordle - Quordle but six!
Hey everyone! About 4.5 years ago, I made a game called Sixordle - Quordle but six words rather than four. I know there's Octordle, and so on, but honestly I thought six is the sweet spot. I checked my analytics last night and saw that I still have over 5k monthly active players. That surprised me, as this was just a fun little side project that I forgot about.
I decided to share it here, in case any of you would like to add it to your daily Wordle-inspired games catalog! Link: https://sixordle.guessoword.com/
Of course, let me know if you have any feedback or questions! Happy solving :)

What was your experience at the University of Toledo?
I’m 19 and I just got accepted to UT!! I visited campus and I LOVE that. So anyone that has gone, what was your experience?? Here’s some starter questions:
How do the people of Toledo act? Are they kind, rude, polite, racist, etc? What about the students?
How is the quality of education? Do you feel like you actually had a complete, unbiased education?
Were you able to be a “ normal” college student? Going out, drinking, fake ids, etc? I am excited for the fun of it all.
How was study abroad? Did you have a lot of opportunities? Were you able to get a complete experience in another country?
What is the political standing? Do people lean left or right?
I have so many more questions lol
Pls lmk!!!!
Is my video doing good? (new channel)
hi all, I made a new channel yesterday focused on highly-produced animated long-form videos about history, psychology, weird facts, human behavior, etc. Think 10-min documentary/deep-dive style content.
I posted 2 videos yesterday, and 2 more today. Today I noticed that my first video (posted just yesterday), has already hit 50+ views (without marketing it or anything), of which over 70% come from suggested videos. CTR of over 4%, and almost 1k impressions.
My other videos all have between 5 and 10 views, with negligible traffic from suggested videos.
I haven't made youtube videos in years, so I'm wondering: is this expected growth? Do you guys have any advice for next steps i should take? should i just keep posting a couple of documentary videos per day and see where it goes? Should i change anything? Thank you!!! I'm excited to see where this takes me 😄
Should I repurpose my 5-year-old YouTube channel (5k subs, 1.3M-view video) or start a new channel for history/psychology content?
Looking for advice from people who've successfully pivoted channels or understand the YouTube algorithm better than I do. I'm trying to go viral asap.
I have a YouTube channel that's about 5 years old. It has around 5,000 subscribers and one lyric video that blew up to over 1.3 million views. All of the channel is lyric videos/music-related content, and I havent posted in 3 years.
Recently I've become interested in building a completely different type of channel: highly-produced long-form videos about history, psychology, weird facts, human behavior, etc. Think documentary/deep-dive style content rather than shorts or music content.
My options are:
Option A
- Private all the old lyric videos
- Rebrand the existing channel
- Start posting the new content daily (or close to daily)
Option B
- Leave the lyric channel alone
- Create a brand-new channel
- Build the history/psychology channel from scratch
My concern is whether the existing 5,000 subscribers and channel history would help, hurt, or make no difference.
On one hand, the old channel already has subscribers, watch history, and a viral video.
On the other hand, almost everyone subscribed for lyric videos, not educational content, so I'm worried YouTube will initially push the new videos to the wrong audience and tank CTR/retention.
For those who've done major niche pivots:
- Did keeping the old channel help?
- Did it hurt?
- Would you start fresh if the niches are this different?
- Would you private old videos or leave them up?
Curious what people who've actually tested this have experienced.
Won $2.5k in OpenAI API credits, what should I do with these?
I won $2.5k in API credits, and don't know what to do. I'm a developer, and can build apps, etc., but really don't have any use of OpenAI credits at the moment. These also expire in a year. Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to most effectively use these, what I could build, or how I could potentially transfer/sell them before they expire? Thanks!

A squirrel got into our lecture hall today 😭😭😭😭😭😭
so i'm sitting in this bird course at 10am on a Thursday and i want you to understand the vibe. nobody chose to be there. the prof is a sweet 60 year old man who says "fascinating" after everything he says. the kids in the front row are the only ones with laptops open and they're all on instagram. it is peaceful. it is meaningless. it is exactly what we paid tuition for.
and then someone screams.
not like a gasp. not a "oh wow." a full, blood-curdling, horror movie scream from the left side of the hall.
we all look over and there is a squirrel on this girl's shoulder.
not running. not passing through. just. sitting there. like they came together. like she picked it up on the way in.
the girl is completely still. the squirrel is completely still. they are just looking at each other. 300 people are watching this in dead silence and nobody knows what to do because nothing in our lives has prepared us for this moment.
the prof says "fascinating."
someone laughed so hard they fell off their chair. like physically tipped over. we heard the crash before we heard the laugh.
and THEN the squirrel panicked.
bro ricocheted off her shoulder, hit the guy next to her in the chest, used him as a launching pad, and disappeared into the lecture hall at a speed that should not be physically possible for something that size. we lost visual immediately. just gone. somewhere in the room. with us.
that's when the chaos started.
nobody knew where it was. it was in the hall somewhere but we could not see it and that was somehow so much worse than when we could. people started pulling their feet up. someone put their bag on their head. a guy in the back just straight up left and honestly respect, he made the right call, i think about him often.
the prof is standing at the front trying to restore order and he keeps saying "it's more scared of you than you are of it" which, sir, i don't think that's true today, i think today it's equal.
then it reappeared on the projector screen ledge at the front of the hall.
just sitting there. above the slide that said "Buddhism: Core Principles." looking down at all of us.
300 people staring up at a squirrel in a religion lecture.
someone behind me whispered "he has achieved enlightenment."
i completely lost it. i'm talking tears. can't breathe. the guy next to me had his head on the desk shaking. the girl who got landed on was somehow already on the phone with someone describing the situation in real time. the TA had given up entirely and was just filming.
the prof tried to shoo it away with a marker. the squirrel looked at the marker. looked at the prof. and then knocked his coffee off the ledge.
deliberately. it made eye contact first. this was personal.
the mug shattered. the prof said "oh dear." the squirrel bolted back into the void.
facilities showed up 20 minutes later with a net like this was a safari. by that point the squirrel had been missing for so long we'd all just resumed the lecture because what else were you gonna do. the facilities guy walked in, looked at us, looked at the prof, and said "so where is it."
and the prof said "we're not entirely sure."
he left. he just turned around and left. didn't even try.
we never found the squirrel. lecture ended. we filed out. it is still in there as far as anyone knows.
i have a midterm in that hall next week and i am genuinely not sure i can do it.
anyway i learned nothing about world religions today but i did learn that when faced with a common threat, 300 strangers will do absolutely nothing useful together. so maybe that's the real lesson. maybe that was the syllabus all along.
How many ECE courses can a CS Major do? (charsss)
I know based on the academic calendar that some ECE courses count towards the Group C requirement for completion of the CS Major, but is there a limit to how many courses a CS Major can take? Also, how do you enroll in ECE courses as an ArtSci student? Finally, are you eligible for any minors / programs in Applied Science & Engineering if you take enough courses? Thank you!
Does ASIP help if I already have work experience?
Hi everyone! I'm a CS + Math Double Major at UTSG, and I'm evaluating if ASIP would be worth it for me. I'm currently interning as an AI Developer at a big name company, and I found the internship independently. If I enrol in ASIP, I will be charged higher fees and will take an extra year to graduate. Is ASIP worth that cost? Or will I be fine independently finding internships in future summers as well? I've heard that ASIP is generally only useful in finding the first internship. Thanks in advance for your responses!
AITAH practicing conversations with my mom before actually talking to her?
ok so i (20M) have always had a really hard time talking to my mom (58F) compared to my sisters (29F, 24F). shes not a bad person or anything but like, every time we have a serious conversation it just goes sideways. she gets defensive, i say the wrong thing, we both hang up upset. its been like this for years.
so a few months ago i started using this app called clonio where you basically feed it your old texts and stuff and it kind of learns how the other person communicates?? and then you can have like a practice conversation with it before you have the real one. i used it to prep for telling my mom i was switching careers, asking her not to bring up my ex anymore, stuff like that. honestly it helped alot bc i stopped fumbling my words as bad.
heres where it gets messy. my mom came to visit last weekend and she was using my phone to look something up (i was in the other room) and she saw the app open with like, a whole simulated convo between "her" and me. i had a practice session going where i was basically rehearsing how to tell her i didn't want to come home for May long weekend this year.
she was HURT. like really hurt. she said it felt like i was "studying her like a subject" and that i had fed her private messages into some app without asking her. she said if i needed to rehearse talking to her that means our relationship is more broken then she thought and why couldnt i just call her and talk like a normal person.
i tried to explain that i do it BECAUSE i want the conversations to go well, not because i dont care. but she wasn't really hearing it. shes been pretty cold since she left and my sister texted me saying mom cried about it on the phone.
i genuinely thought i was doing something proactive and healthy?? but maybe using her actual messages without asking was crossing a line idk. AITAH??
