196th cop and car interaction

So on 196th there’s two lanes of traffic on each side and there’s a center turn lane. The arrow markings in the middle lane are super faded but there is a common left turn into a road which makes the center lane full of cars waiting to make a left turn (near Todo). Sometimes but more rarely, a car from the opposite direction needs to make their left turn and get into the middle but it’s full of cars obviously facing the other way.

So I’m waiting along with 5 other cars trying to make this left while in the center turn lane. An incoming car from the opposite direction needs to turn left and can’t get into the middle obviously, so he just stops in the road. Everyone behind him is getting into the right lane to pass him and he’s just waiting for the person to turn but they can’t turn into traffic clears. Then a cop car stops behind the car that’s just stopped in highway lane and blares his siren for a second and I think he wants this guy to move forward and not stop in the middle of the road but he’s telling the car in the center lane to move forward a little so that this car can squeeze in between, and make his turn while perpendicular in the center lane and waiting for traffic to clear on the opposing side to go. Which isn’t a super safe turn since you can’t see with cars blocking.

I hope this makes sense but normally if a middle lane is full I have to get in earlier or later in the center lane and just adjust where I have to turn instead of stopping in the middle of the road. And I don’t expect to just squeeze into a line of cars to make an unsafe turn but that’s what this cop instructed which I find weird? Is that not weird?

Got left this note on my Amazon package

I don’t know what they are talking about. I checked my Amazon tracking history and it says “out for delivery” Monday August 17. It never said “package delivered” UNTIL today Friday August 21. So today is when I go out and grab my package and this is on the box. I left them a note saying Amazon told me it was delivered today. I’m not sure why some packages are delivered to my door and some to the parcel but that sucks knowing they could return it to sender when I wasn’t properly notified that my package had arrived.

Edit- this is not a prior issue. I just moved to this neighborhood and barely get any mail or packages.

I can’t tell if just because it’s shipped with usps that it’ll just be in the locker when it gets delivered. I’ve looked at my past orders that were delivered to door step and it’s still says usps shipment when the person who dropped it off wore an Amazon vest. I don’t know how that works.

No I will not check my mail everyday. I know that’s going to offend everyone but I’m paperless on nearly everything. I check on fridays and all I get is 3 pieces of junk mail at most. When I get a package notification, I go the same day. Which is what I did. I have the ability to check it everyday, sure. But I don’t need to, so I don’t. And it’s literally never been an issue until this one instance out of hundreds.

  1. On Monday I didn’t know it was out for delivery. I only looked it up after I got the package.
  2. This has never happened before - typically I get stuff saying it’s coming and then doesn’t come for days.
  3. 99% of my packages have been delivered to my door, so I thought if I didn’t get a delivery notification and didn’t see the package in front my house, then it probably wasn’t delivered.

AIO not giving in to neighbor

Bought a new construction home with no fence. Neighbors moved in after us. It’s been a couple months and neighbor A want the fence done before the end of this summer. I am still in debt from paying for the fridge, washer/dryer, shades and various other home stuff. Neighbor B is in the same position and said they want to wait until we were both financially better. Neighbor A initially said okay but then started sending a bunch of quotes saying they want our shared side done this month while the weather is still good. I said I can try to make something work but we are struggling right now.

The quote they sent for our address was listed at $600 so I said that’s fine, confirm if this company will want to come back again for our other side with neighbor B (because one company said no schedule it all together so they don’t have to come twice) and we can proceed. Well they never confirmed and said “hey I scheduled for X day and you owe 1.1k. I said where is that price from?? And apparently their quote when divided is 1.1k but mine said something different, so I wanted to clarify with the company. This company never answered my calls, texts or emails. It’s been over a week after repeating this and they won’t answer. They have 1 star on yelp and a lot of it is because no one can contact them - they are hard to get ahold of. I also want to know what materials are being used because their quote only lists pickets and gates. Because the company never answered, I said I was uncomfortable going with them and the neighbor is basically saying “you don’t need to contact them, I’m the one the quote is under. I don’t know why we’re waiting.” And I said I have questions and this company is a red flag.

So they offer a “deal” saying we can give them 1k and they’ll pay the rest for our shared side and I thought this was because they were the ones rushing the fence and because they want a higher end one. But no, I got a quote match with another company and they said nope, we need to split it evenly, theyre not helping. And the deal only stands if we choose the company that doesn’t answer. But I still have another side fence to worry about. They don’t. This is a one time transaction for them. So I don’t want two different companies for my fences. And I wouldn’t be going with this one they like. I also thought I was helping them out by even considering paying 1k at all when I can say, we need to wait because I really do need to wait.

They keep repeating that I do not need to communicate with their fencer, I just need to take their good deal and pay them. Ideally I would’ve just had both sides of our fences done next summer over the same weekend with one company and call it good. But with them they don’t care, they just want their side done and for us to take their deal even though it would be different warranties and possibly different styles for our two side fences. AIO by making this difficult for them and not giving in to their demands?

Landscaping costs vary so much

I think we have like 700 sq ft of grass, probably less. It’s really small. I got quoted $150, $60, $50 and then found someone to do it for $30 and he did it within an hour.

New house regret

Ranting - just bought a new construction, I loved it at first. Great layout and nice finishes. Mom did not like the house -which she decided after closing. I said okay we can sell it in 1-2 years and we will be working with a realtor for advice so we don’t lose what we put into it.

We didn’t notice train tracks until after we moved in but we didn’t think much of it. Zillow listed it as a silent zone lol. We lived in the same city before and got used to the train sounds but apparently these are different tracks. The train here is so much more active than our previous house. Before it would come max 3 times a day and this one is maybe twice every couple hours. I asked how we could look into train schedules before moving in and someone from our county said freight trains are classified so you can’t know. Then our neighbors just moved in. Apparently they are BIG family who bought the house beside us and across from us, so all day they are just shouting and yelling for each other. Just sounds like their normal speaking voice is max volume. Lots of kids. Before, we lived in a neighborhood in between an elementary school, YMCA and a park, and it wasn’t even this loud. These neighbors are on another level.

I’m a little worried about how this place will sell in the future considering the noise but perhaps this family will have more family who will want to buy from us 😂🤞.

ETA: I bring up mom, who can’t live alone because if she at least loved the house like she said she did before we bought, I would stay in it for longer.

Also how we didn’t notice the tracks? They don’t cut through any road around here. It’s in a sort of grassy field space behind the neighbors house. So when we walked around the neighborhood when touring, we didn’t see it at ground level. We also don’t have a view of the tracks from our home. We only see the train when it’s coming. But even so, I said I lived by tracks before in the same city and I was fine with it. I had no way of knowing these tracks were much more active.

I ranted about how I feel bad after we closed on a house. I said I had a difficult time with my realtor and first lender that did not make my experience great. But regardless we got the house and I love it, it works for me. The commute to work is far from but I can work from home later. So in the long run, house is great.

I said, my mom is now complaining about the house and doesn’t like it. And hearing her voice these complaints are making me feel regret and defeat because she was so excited for the house and now I feel like the only one benefiting from it. How can I be happy knowing I made someone else unhappy and now they are stuck and I made her life harder?

Redditors:
“Take responsibility for your actions”
Me: what?
“It’s so easy to switch out lenders and realtors”
Me: yeah we switched lenders but my realtor wouldn’t sign a termination agreement.
“You have to read what you sign, don’t sign if you don’t agree with it”
Me: well, you have to sign a brokers agreement for anyone to show you homes. It’s the very first step. No sign no agent. And she was fine at first.
“You knew about the commute before buying, do something to pass the time”
Me: yeah I did. I’m fine with it. My mom isn’t. Didn’t know until after.
“You let your realtor be bad to you, you couldve fired her and now you’re blaming her for YOUR decision”
Me: I complained to her face about her, asked for a signed release TWICE, when she didnt, I called her managing broker and complained about her and asked them for a signed release. But again, not blaming her for this house because I LIKE IT, MOM DOESNT BUT I DIDNT KNOW UNTIL AFTER WE CLOSED. Contacted another agent who said they don’t want to “step on anyone’s toes” since we were still under contract.
“20 minutes isn’t a commute”
Me: I said 20 miles.
“Oh well you probably changed the wording just now”

But apparently I need to take responsibility because I’m not holding myself accountable.
Okay.

Want to sell the house in the future. Bought at 625k, appraisal came up to that amount. It is a 3 bedroom home with an unfinished “basement” (ground level same as garage). The basement right now has electricity hookup, framing for 2 bedrooms, full bathroom and a living room area - all 712sq ft. We want to finish it, which will make it a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom house. A 4 bedroom in our area with 100sq less space is currently priced at $690k, do you think our home could sell for more? If it does would it be wise to sell even if we haven’t lived in it for 2 years? People do say 5 years is better to stay in a home before selling. We had 30% down.

We just bought a house and the location is really far from our work. At the time it seemed fine because one of us will retire in less than 10 years and I can possibly work remote soon. But it seems more appealing for us to just stay for one year then rent it out. It is a new construction house that is 3 bedrooms but it has an unfinished basement with the framing for a living room space, 2 bedrooms and a full bath. So we plan on finishing the basement soon- it would add value to the house and we can add a kitchenette and have an another renter in the basement as it does have a separate entry too. And by having two renters I think we could pay off the mortgage in less than 10 years. So we can either move back in and remodel it later or sell it as a paid off house and find a house in a better location. I think what we would have to do while renting our house out, is rent something else closer to work in the meantime. I wish we could afford to buy another house instead of renting but we won’t have enough for a down payment and we would want all the rent going towards the principal. Is this a bad idea or are there are risks I should be wary of? I’m really afraid of renting a home out because our last one was trashed by the renters but perhaps we can set something up with background checks or something. Any advice? I’d want to use this as an investment property to eventually buy a better house.

(It’s in a good location in general, 3 min from Costco, target and shopping center. 5 min to the freeway. Schools nearby.)

Bought a new construction house and closed on Thursday. When we got the keys they said they changed the locks. Also we didn’t move in right away so we left the house Thursday night after getting the keys and went back here and there on Friday. On Friday, we saw a lighter on the ground in the basement that was not there on Thursday and this morning went back and it was gone. We forgot to take photos since we were doing bunch of things but there was an unlocked window with no screen so that’s our bad for not checking. Now we’re off the Home Depot to get the window sticks.

Driver delivered to someone else’s door. They took a picture without the door number so I had no idea where it was. There’s multiple buildings so no way I was going to search for it so I chatted the driver that they brought it to the wrong door and they could not understand me or they just didn’t want to go back to wherever they put it. I order quite a lot and never had this issue before, and even if I did, I never thought it would be this hard to tell the driver they didn’t deliver to the right door. Anyways, I got my order redelivered by another driver so it was all good.
