Olympus 2249 - upcoming classic Fallout like RPG!!!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5094490/Olympus_2249/

Standalone sequel to Olympus 2207 (Fallout 2 mod), set in a brutal post-nuclear dieselpunk America.

The interesting bit is the Karma system: your character type actually changes dialogue, quests and how people treat you, rather than just being a morality meter. You can also solve problems through five non-combat specializations.

Combat is turn-based and very systemic — positioning, stamina abilities, environmental hazards, traps, shooting limbs, setting oil and fuel on fire etc. There’s also stealth, crafting, radiation/poison zones, day/night routines, dismemberment and procedural encounters.

Basically: Fallout 2-style freedom with a heavier systems focus, in a weird dieselpunk wasteland.

We werent suffering in 3D Morrowind with guns for nothing!

(Olympus 2207 here.)

Ludmila Javorová (1935 - 2026)

Recently deceased Ludmila Javorová was one of the most radical Christians of the 20th century. During communist persecution, the Czech underground church recognized what Rome still refuses to admit: women can be called to priesthood. Secretly ordained by Bishop Felix Maria Davídek in 1970 to minister to imprisoned women, she became a living challenge to patriarchal theology.

The real scandal is not that Javorová was ordained. The scandal is that after 1989 the Vatican largely dismantled or ignored the underground church's most creative experiments, declared her ordination invalid, and erased the radical possibilities born under persecution.

That this happened in the Czech lands is no accident. This is also a country where women serve as pastors in other Christian traditions. Javorová's life belongs to a longer Czech history of challenging clerical and patriarchal authority.

The final chapter of her life: The woman the Church refused to recognize as a priest taught religion to children. The revolution was never defeated; it was simply sent to Sunday school.

Your favorite underappreciated deep cut gem?

I've played too many RPGs. I'm looking for something unknown but good in someway or another. I'm even willing to try bad writing or clunky mechanics.

My recommendation to you is Golden Land. Glorious slavjank.

Shadowrun Mega CD - New Machine Translation

https://github.com/RetchERez/Shadowrun-MegaCD-SegaCD-English
"Step into the shadows with an English machine translation of Shadowrun for Sega CD / Mega-CD. Follow Rokudo and his fellow runners through seven scenarios of investigations, gang conflicts, corporate intrigue, magic, and the Matrix.
English machine-translation patch for Shadowrun on Sega CD / Mega-CD. Distributed as a BPS patch and requires an original Japanese copy of the game.
This is a machine translation, with editing, corrections, and playtesting to improve readability and address problems encountered along the way. It is not an official localization or a professional human translation, and some wording or nuances may still need refinement."

Eclipse Comics' El Salvador: A House Divided (1989)

Eclipse Comics published El Salvador: A House Divided in 1989 because they wanted to present the Salvadoran Civil War outside the official propaganda of the Reagan era and demonstrate that comics could function both as political reportage and as powerful storytelling. The book was written and drawn by Bill Tulp, who originally published it through Mother of Ashes Press before it was picked up by Eclipse, one of the most daring American independent publishers working in socially conscious comics.

Tulp did an excellent job. His black-and-white artwork is realistic, emotionally charged, and rich in detail, often reading almost like a documentary, while the story translates the complex history of El Salvador into the lives of ordinary people. The comic is engaging, meticulously researched, and politically uncompromising.

It is one of those comics that perfectly demonstrates that the medium does not have to exist solely for escapism. Great artwork, a powerful story, and at the same time a fierce indictment of the disastrous U.S. foreign policy in Central America, which supported a regime responsible for widespread violence while Washington spoke the language of defending democracy.

Good comic, recommended.

-------

Btw if you want more ---> Eclipse Comics’ left-wing and activist publishing line in the late 1980s sought to combine comics with political advocacy and investigative journalism. Beyond Real War Stories, which was distributed through peace and anti-war networks rather than the traditional comics market, Eclipse released collectible card sets such as Imperialism: The Dark Side of the American Dream, satirizing U.S. interventionism, the CIA, and corporate power. This effort culminated in Brought to Light by Joyce Brabner, Alan Moore, Bill Sienkiewicz, and others, a graphic documentary exposing CIA covert operations, arms trafficking, and drug networks. Together, these projects demonstrated comics’ potential as a medium for anti-war, anti-imperialist, and human rights activism.

I hate this humble bullshit

I hate it with all my heart. Putting social problems & poverty on piedestal and say 'it's more worthy and more better then super rich people' is pretentious 💩. On material level and level of health, it's really not. It's horrible. Have you ever witness maggots and shit on elder homeless person's legs? :( Rotting alive, that's what it is.

Bless the poor, bless them with revolution.

I'm social worker 👉 the poverty is crushing bodies, and soul of people. Especially the kids. I strongly believe in expropriation of wealth of super rich people. No shame in that. What we are globally doing to the poor of this world is much more worse sin than tears of billionaire's son, that he will not inheret football team and small island.

Study the Bible, study Marx, study Gutiérrez and DO (!) praxis of Ernesto Cardenal, Dorothy Day and Camilo Torres.

Moebius (1996) - great Argentinian movie

A train has gone missing, and no one can find it anywhere in the subway system. Every now and then, people catch a glimpse of it or hear it passing by. What happened to it? A great Argentine film and a real hidden gem. It features lots of sturdy old technology and excellent cinematography. Highly recommended.

Full movie with eng subs on YT.

I've enjoy this game so much, it's absolutely great CRPG with inovations, that I would expect from Van Buren. The Lore is crazy as f*ck and I love it. Mechanics great, the battles are quick and more like chess, great atmosphere, must play!!!
https://www.gog.com/en/game/underrail -75% btw on GOG

I just played games like Quasimorph, ATOM RPG, Colony Ship, Age of Decadence, Wasteland 2-3, Space Wreck and so on. But Underrail was really the one, that nailed the spiritual succesory to OG Fallout ... for me. Do you know any other games like this?

What to do with T400, T480 and T440p?

So I've managed to buy three cheap ThinkPads, well I was planning to buy just one. I need your advice.

T480 I want to refurbished for my wife - new screen, new battery. But I was thinking how to make it lighter? Maybe throw away optical reader and put there SSD? Also I will out there 64gb RAM and MINT. (My wife never ever closing tabs in Firefox... So...) Any suggestions about the weight?

I have T440p - I want there dual boot - Fedora Spin and MacOS, so I'm building hackintosh? (Is it good idea with Fedora? I've had MINT, I want something advanced.)... Well and new screen, new touchpad, I want maybe do something with cooling. I will put there one from T400p with GPU and maybe another extra pipe and blower. (That will be hard.) Why? Cause  I7-4980HQ will go there. (And wifi card bcm94360cs2.)

I also want tu put there speakers from iPhone. 💩

And I am stuck with T400. What to do with it? I think I have some cpu, RAM and SSD for it. But what to do with it? Maybe build retro gaming Linux for friend? We will see. Or maybe build around it gaming cabinet. 👹🔥 Any suggestions?

And I think LibreBoot or CoreBoot are going into all three.
