Priority vs moves with variable types

Fun fact, Gale Wings cannot give priority to variable type moves, such as Natural Gift, Hidden Power or Judgement, even if they are flying type. This is still true in gen 9. Allegedly this happens because these moves were not flying type when selected.

This got me thinking if the opposite applies, it does. In this scenario, the Brave Bird still has priority, even if it's no longer a flying type move

But I'm still confused why it works like this, especially nowadays where dynamic speed/priority is a thing. My only guess is that it follows the same logic as the encore prankster interaction.

Fun Fact: Toedscruel cannot use spore on levitate mons in electric terrain

I found this interesting, because it's one of those interactions no one thinks of, but when you look at it, everything is working exactly the way they are supposed to work

Edit: Turns out this is not a new mechanic either, it has worked like this since terrains were introduced in gen 6

That moment when a random trainer just has Pokémon more than ten levels above yours

What is the worst Pokémon you got from the randomizer? I just got mine

Garbage typing and garbage ability on top of already terrible stats, yeah this thing is dead to me
