Took a vac sealed 2.5lb pork belly out of the freezer at 4:40 and defrosted in a water bath until 6:20 (changed water every 30 min). When I opened the package it was warmer than expected. Thermometer showed 65-70F. My plan is to dry brine in fridge for 48 hours before cooking. Is this okay?
reddit.comI use a Kalita Wave and a Melitta. Will I notice a substantial difference with the Hario Switch?
I’m afraid not noticing much of a difference with the switch and having to get used to something new will give me buyer’s remorse. I’m not too technical when it comes to my coffee and I do like a rich, deep brew. I once bought the aeropress and then returned it immediately because it either tasted the same or not as good as the Melitta.
Ignoring price, oxenforge vs smithey wok.
I’ve never tried an oxenforge. I’ve tried the smithey and the handle makes it difficult to manipulate the wok.
My before and after pics of my new smithey wok I scored in fb marketplace. Does it matter that I didn’t blue the whole surface?
Fb marketplace find I couldn’t pass up. Should I remove the remaining seasoning and redo it? What method should I use first? Also, although it sits without a wobble, I notice the bottom is slightly convex. Is that normal or warped from overheating?
Just visited SF where the crows/ravens were different than ones by me in Brooklyn, NY. In SF they’d stay close and come right down if you toss nuts. By me, they ignore them mostly. Rarely they’ve eaten nuts left on my porch. Most of the time they ignore those too. Why are the BK crows standoffish?
I’ve been trying to get acquainted with the crows by me for 3 years now!
I’m here visiting for a week from the east coast. If I go to Henry Cowell State Park instead of Muir Woods, will I be missing out?
reddit.comDid I get lucky? This was labeled as choice at my local grocery.
I’ll be visiting SF from NYC for a week in early August for the first time. I was thinking of going to Yosemite for 2-3 days. Am I better off making these two separate trips? Thanks! Also, open to recs, especially food!
reddit.comThis is the trunk of my cherry tree. How do I save it from this rot? I think ants are moving in because of it. Thanks!
Going to St Anselm for my partners birthday after seeing lots of mentions here. My question is should we sit at the chef table or not?
reddit.comLooking for a summer opportunity for my student entering 10th grade, ideally STEM-related. He applied to a program but wasn’t accepted, and deadlines have passed.
If anyone knows of any internships, volunteer roles, school/community projects, mentorships, or programs still accepting students, I’d really appreciate any leads. Located in NYC! Thanks!
In 2020, at the age of 33 I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer which was treated with chemo and radiation. I just had my final set of scans which still showed NED- so I'm cleared. Unfortunately they found a 0.9cm tumor on my right kidney (most likely unrelated to my original cancer).
The doctor wants to follow-up in 6 months with scans. He said I'll most likely need to get it removed eventually but he doesn't want to rush into it, especially when it's so small. The doctor is a very experienced surgeon who specializes in open kidney surgery. He was trying to really convince me to go with open surgery (his specialty) vs. robotic. I will probably meet with a surgeon, in the same facility, specializing in robotics for another opinion. I wanted to hear the thoughts and experiences of others who went through one or the other for a small tumor. Thanks!
A friend suggested I read Foundation after loving Project Hail Mary. I’m 30% in and I’m finding it incredibly boring and feel lost with all the names. Should I finish it or call it quits?
Any other recs would be great. I’ve looked through other posts about what to read after PHM and will definitely read Martian next. I’m a new reader, sadly.
