I had my umbilical hernia surgery yesterday.

I have OCD and emetophobia so for me the worst case would have been to wake up with nausea. That was the only worry i had.

I was scheduled for 12 noon yesterday, no food or fluids 12 hrs prior to that. Im a man of morning routines especially with my coffe, breakfast and high water intake, by lunch i usually drank already my first gallon of water, well not yesterday.

I arrived at 11:50 filled out paperwork and paid the $350 for my surgery.

The nurse took me in 10min later, gave me a hairnet, socks and a robe, the one where your ass hangs out. She asked me questions about allergys ect.

Then she put me on a IV.

12:30 the surgeon comes in says hello and tells me what the plan was.

12:45 The anesthesia dr came in and told me everything. I told her about my phobia, she was super nice.

1:05 They rolled me into the OR while giving me already something to calm down. By that time i was already almost out. I remember i took one hit under the mask and i was gone.

2:20 I started waking up,hungry and thirsty but no pain.

They kept bringing me water and ginger ale,god that was so good.

No nausea at all,just starving,lol.

3pm they rolled me out the door and 10min later i was home.

Had a bowl of rice and avocado and tons of water.

1 big cup of prune juice also.

All the medicine was wearing off but there was no pain kicking in,that was weird.

Getting up and down was different but not bad at all.

My first night i didnt slept awesome, not because of the pain it was more my OCD brain spinning.

I woke up at 7am, hungry again. But still no pain, so far i havent taken anything after the surgery.

I dont know if im really that lucky but i take it.

I will keep posting updates here.

I was so worried about the nausea that i almost canceled the surgery,im happy i did it. Its over, now its only healing.

UPDATE 1: Just went poopy the first time, Prune juice for the win.

Update 2: Went poopy 2 more times

Update 3: 24 hours post op, still no pain, no painkillers. My colum is completely empty

Its finally happening, i finally getting it fixed. 4 years this hernia gave me the worst pain i ever had in my life, not every day of course. Only here and there.

As a person with emetophobia my only worry is to wake up with nausea, that would be the absolute worst for me.

Sedation or GA?

Im scheduled for surgery in 10 days. I have a small umbilical hernia 1cm. The Dr said, open surhery with mesh. He also said the surgery will only last 30 min. max. Would they put me under GA for such a small procedure?

Its done in a ambulatory surgery center.

I have the cpt code but it only says anesthesia. Does that mean GA or sedation?

I read now all those horror stories about GA and rather have the sedation.

Umbilical hernia recovery time

I have a very small hernia, less than 1 inch right at my belly button,90% of the time i cant even feel it, only when my column is full i can feel it. Usually i have no problems with any pain just sometimes and then only in the morning after i went poopy,i dont know what causes it but i have cramps then that are the worst pain i ever had, at that point i cant even touch my hernia thats how bad the pain is. My only way out is laxative,i lay down, feel a rumble in my belly, go poopy again and the hernia bulge and pain is gone. This can happen once a week, once a month or not happen for a whole year.

I had a ct and met my surgeon, without the ct he couldnt even tell i have a hernia. He said it will take him 30min to repair, im not worried about that. My problem is the recovery time.

Im a private Chef and work between 5 and 6 hours a day. No heavy lifting or stress,i cook for 2 people. They are out of town in August for a week and that would be basicly my only chance to get it done.

It it possible to be fine within 1 week, this is the easiest job ever,i live on property and work from 10-1 then 4 hour break and then 5-6:30.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: english is not my first language

$10,000 penalty

My wife and i filed jointly the first time in 2024 and hired a CPA, his name is on the return. Our return was audited and we have to pay over $10,000 back. Is there anything we can do about it?

This is just nuts

Im a Chef for 25 years, i know exactly how to handle food and what is safe to eat. My ocd makes me wash my hands hundreds of times during the day. Im on a 32 year vomit free streak.

I know about noro since 1,5 years and before that i never really cared. I was scared of vomit of course but now im on a new level.

Its only at night that i cant sleep because my ocd brain keeps telling i have noro. I take 2 zofran and sleep like a baby.

How can i be this stupid, its always the same patern and its basicly almost impossible to get infected, i dont even eat out, no social contacts ect. But still, every night the same thoughts.

Unreal
