Comics - What type of video works best?

Hi all,

A question for those who have launched their own indie comics on Kickstarter. Do you find that having a comic book trailer has had a significant impact on support for your campaign or reach? Or do you think a more personal introduction to you and your work might have the same effect?

I'm trying to do research before building a campaign and want to know the cost-benefit of different kinds of video content.

Empire of the Saurian Comic Panels

Hi all,

Thought you lot might appreciate a comic panel and sketches done by u/quigleyer for our upcoming one-shot, Empire of the Saurian: Mastering Chaos. It's wuxia warriors vs a massive Spinosaurus (Aegypticus).

There are also a couple of stylised sketches he sent over before getting involved in the project. He's been so great and receptive to my nitpicking about paleo-accuracy.

[HIRING] Female British / Slight Chinese Accent - Comic Trailer

Hi all,

I'm looking for older female voices for a 30-second comic book trailer.

Budget is USD 50 - 100 for approx 50 words.

The character is old, wise, cynical. Sara Kestelman's work as Kreia in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II is a great example of what I'm looking for. Slight Chinese accent (Mainland, not Cantonese) preferable, but RP British is also acceptable.

And, of course, I'll need licence to use that voice to market and sell the comic.

If interested, please provide a voice sample / portfolio.

Comic Book Trailer Editor

Hi all,

Not sure if the "Looking for Artist - Paid" tag is the right one (sorry if I've picked incorrectly). I'm looking for someone familiar with animation who can create a 30-second comic trailer using provided PNG or TIF files.

If there is anyone who can do that, send over your portfolio and let me know your rate!

Wuxia v Dino

Had to share this panel (art by Eric Quigley) from "Empire of the Saurian: Mastering Chaos". It's ancient philosophies, Chinese-inspired fantasy, and wuxia warriors vs dinosaurs. I think Eric captured it pretty well in this.

Framing Characters

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of story advice with a script I'm working on. It's a historical drama that folllws three generations of one family fighting and fleeing a repressive regime.

I've generally gotten positive feedback on the historical characters. It's the framing character and his story that has been the issue for many, and I can see why. His struggle is too internal and the stakes for him are unclear.

I'll briefly explain that he's essentially just a kid at a crossroads, who has to decide whether he wants to actively fight (not physically / militarily) or if he will just keep his head down. The story is him grappling with that decision through conversations with friends and his mother and in that is a look back at his family history.

The stakes I've established for him is that if he decides to fight/resist, he is choosing to abandon any hope of returning home or seeing his family again. But I guess that's not clear enough.

My first thought is to have him directly threatened by a proponent of that oppressive regime. But I risk introducing yet another character, albeit quite a minor one, into an already sizable cast.

Any advice or suggestions for how to treat a framing character with this sort of internal conflict? I appreciate any advice/suggestions!

Comic Book Release Format

Hi all,

My team and I are working on a comic book series. We intended to pitch it to publishers, but since comics are in such a state, it looks like Kickstarter is the way we'll have to go. I've been trying to do research.

One question we're now asking ourselves is whether we should release volume by volume or issue by issue. Anyone have any experience with either and any advice to share?

Animated Wonder Woman recommendations

My kid just got into Wonder Woman and wanted to start with one of the animated shows/films. Couldn't find the old Justice League Unlimited series I used to watch as a kid, so we put on Wonder Woman (2009). It was a fun film, but the treatment of Diana and Steve and the gender debate was not great. My child isn't really old enough to pay any real attention to that yet anyway, but still.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an animated Wonder Woman film/show that avoids things like that (or preferably does it well)?

Fantasy Map Artist

Hi all,

Giving this another try.

I have a paleo-fantasy series in the works and I'm looking for a map of the setting to include in each issue. There are lots of factions and lots of battles, so this will help readers understand where everything happens and how that impacts other things.

Someone familiar with either Chinese aesthetics is preferred but not essential.

Message or comment with the following:

  1. Sample artwork and website (please DO NOT send your Artstation, DeviantArt or similar)

  2. Your rate

Comments or messages that don't follow with the above will be ignored and/or deleted.

If you need a sense of the series and world: http://www.empiresaurian.com

Thanks!

EU/UK Comic Book Publishers

Hi all,

I'm looking to pitch my comic book series to a publisher, but there don't appear to be too many in the EU or UK that work with comics. Does anyone have any recommendations?
