Thinking of getting a Transition scout

Hello everyone, I’m considering upgrading my current bike to a transition scout. I have a strong preference to 27.5 wheels, as I am 5.4ft (1.64m) with a small inseam. So I’d like to avoid a 29er preferably.

I am coming from a modified stumpjumper fsr 650b. I use it for a more enduro style riding. I usually ride chunky Rocky and steep trails. Some are slow tech, others are a mix of slow and high speed hits, it’s all natural African terrain.

I got the stumpjumper as a frame and put on some custom parts. I am planning to run a 160 lyrik as my final upgrade. My plan is to get a transition scout frame and just take off all the compatible parts I put on the stumpy and just move them to the scout.

My local trails are about 1 to 2km but with constant chatter or gnarly rocky bits, so the body, suspension and tires get hit hard. I have videos on my page

So I would like to know, if I get a transition scout frame, would the stock marzocchi shock work fine, or would I benefit from switching to a deluxe ultimate, or vivid air? How does the suspension linkage feel? I am looking for a playful but confidence inspiring rig. I intend to run the bike with a 160 fork.

A new trail. A new session

This is definitely in the top 5 trails in my local network. Literally found it and pieced it together two weeks ago. But only got to properly session. Top to bottoms this weekend. Just a bummer the camera always makes it look tamer than it actually is.

Full run down one of my favourite trails in Zimbabwe

There is a cut where I get on the fireroad. I downloaded the video from my Instagram, where I had to keep it under 3 minutes. Easy pace.

Clips from this weekend

Here are some clips from this weekend. I finally have my bike dialled. Really enjoying it. Unfortunately the camera makes the trails look flat, but a lot of these are quite steep.

First ride out on the stumpy

I recently got the stump jumper fsr in my arsenal. And I want to basically turn it into an all mountain shredder. I have experience overhauling a bike on a budget. So I finally got about riding it’s to see what I’d like to change on it. A short 33.36km (23.70miles) ride with 877m (2877ft) of elevation gains hit some of my favourite trails. And even tried new ones. The bike feels great, and I have a solid idea of the things that need to change. WHY IS THE INDUSTRY TRENDING AWAY FROM 27.5!!! For us small peeps, it’s just perfect.

New (to me) Bike Day!!

I snagged this stump jumper FSR for an incredible deal. It’s my first full suspension bike. Not only that, the bike fits me soo well. I’ve always had trouble with 29er wheels, being 5.4ft and having a very small inseam. So to find a bike in full 27.5, it feels great. A couple rides in, and I am ABSOLUTLTY loving it. I just want to swap out some parts and work towards setting it up. My goodness it’s a lovely bike. I’m so stoked. I ride more enduro style terrain, steep chutes, chunky rocks, loose loam etc etc. it makes up about 80% of my riding. I’m thinking of swapping out the Sram drivetrain for a Shimano Deore 11 speed. And some Shimano Deore 4 piston front and rear. I’d also like to swap out the butcher tyres for schwalbe magic Mary up front and romy (or Hans damf) in the rear. I’d love to hear other small upgrades I could make to it, that would improve the ride feel.

Weekend chronicles.

This weekend I was clearing some overgrowth in the trails. And found myself having an epic time all alone in the wild crashes and all.
