Neat optical phenomenal visible in The West Valley today

I recently started working at a new place and in one particular person’s office there’s this painting. For context all the offices are glass so anyone can see it and I see this every time I walk to my desk.

Is the figure on the left not in black face? Or a black caricature? It immediately registered to me as offensive and made me uncomfortable and I asked someone in the office and they said it’s not and that it’s like folk art and that I shouldn’t bring it up to our manager about how I think it’s blackface.

I also reverse image searched the artwork and it’s by a guy named Marcus Kenney who seems to have some other problematic pieces.

Am I overreacting for finding this offensive and especially inappropriate for an office setting?
