Any chance for restoring these otherwise-new pitch black Skechers?

Any chance for restoring these otherwise-new pitch black Skechers?

I was told that our planned walk was "an ultra-easy, fully paved walk through a greenhouse".

Turned out, it was a 3-mile dirt path hike through an outdoor desert landscape. They got covered in dusty dirt. I tried a leaf blower, and banging them together, to no avail.

Another me would have just replaced them, but that's not something I can afford to do, and these were my only non "running shoe" or "work boot"-looking shoes.

Any chance for restoring these otherwise-new pitch black sneakers?

These are the "Skechers Slip-ins: Arch Fit Arcade - See Ya There"

The website says they are "machine washable" on the product page, but in the Q&A below it, all of the responses say they aren't.

The description also says "removeable insole", but it didn't feel like it was going to come out without a fight.

Questions about the Soundcore A30 Special app and alarms.

I've been using and enjoying my AC30 Special sleep earbuds for a couple of months, and mostly enjoy them, but there are a couple things I'm hoping I'm just missing a setting for, which would greatly improve use:

  1. The font size of the numbers when setting an alarm is quite small, even on my large S23 Ultra phone. I have a health condition where I set one alarm based on when I'm going to bed, and then after I get up and access my status, I decide what time the next alarm will be set. It's not always uniform. So I'm having to set that follow-up alarm with very tired eyes, while almost half asleep, and the numbers are incredibly tiny when I'm trying to scroll the number "reels" to set the new time. Is there a place to change the font size setting?

  2. The alarms. One of the reasons I chose these earbuds was the ability to have an alarm reliably only come through the ear buds, so as not to wake my partner sleeping next to me. However, even after a couple of months of regular use, I still haven't been able to reliably depend on the included "gentle" alarm sound choices. Even with the volume setting cranked, I'm still not waking up quickly or reliably enough when I'm going to bed very tired. I have to set TWO alarms for every time I want to wake up, and sometimes STILL have to set my stand-alone alarm clock for the final time I have to wake up. Are there any more aggressive alarm sounds available to use with the earbuds that I'm just missing? I fully understand that this is counter to the concept of proper sleep health...but when I need to wake up at 3:00AM to catch a flight or start an early work day, I NEED to wake up at 3:00AM, and the app's options haven't been sufficient.

  3. Is there a way to set an alarm time without having to be connected to the earbuds, and have it sync when I connect them? I'd love to be able to set an alarm whenever I think of it, rather than depending on having to remember when I'm about to go to sleep, and connect to the earbuds.

Mushroom swiss burger with gravy?

I grew up in the midwest, where a mushroom swiss burger has a rich brown mushroom gravy.

It was served this way everywhere, from diners, steakhouses, and regional fast food chains like Culver's.

But I've lived here for 25 years, and that style seems few and far between here.

Anyone know of any restaurants in the Bay Area that serve a mushroom swiss burger in that sort of "smothered" (but not smothered so much it has to be eaten with a knife and fork or open-faced...still messy, but not swimming) style, and not just like a normal cheese burger with some roasted mushrooms?

For example, the style that Chili's offers is not the style I'm looking for: LINK

This is more along the lines: LINK or even this: LINK

How to neutralize mold on oiled wood floor

TL;DR:

Is sanding and re-oiling my only option to no longer have to worry about (what I believe is) mold?

The context:

This morning, I was sitting at my desk and kept hearing a faint click sound kinda behind me. About once per second.

I started poking around, trying to figure out where the sound was coming from. Eventually pulled something from the closet behind me, and saw a few drops of water on something. I looked up, and saw a drip come down from a 1 gallon jug of emergency water (I live in earthquake country). It had lost about 1/2 gallon of water.

I emptied the closet, and the 12" x 36" rug on the floor (just there to protect the floor from dents/scratches from the stuff we put in and pull out of the closet) which was saturated with water.

I don't know how long it was like that, but I don't think it was *that* long.

But, once I pulled up that rug, wiped up the surface water, and have had a fan blowing across it for about 5 hours, there's some black spots.

This flooring is a 4mm thick cap of walnut (with a plywood substrate). It has an oiled finish.

Is there anything I can clean this wood with that will neutralize this mold? Or is my only option to sand and re-finish the flooring?

Birthday in Golden Gate Park: route/stop ideas?

It's my birthday in the next week or so (I'm turning 29 again, for the 18th time), and I'm planning on spending the day in the city, focusing primarily on Golden Gate Park.

The day so far: start at Devil's Teeth on Noriega for a breakfast biscuit sandwich. Then walk along the Great Highway Trail, to the far west side of the park.

I know I want to visit the bison paddock, and the Naga/dragon in Rainbow Falls Pond. but outside of that, I'm a bit overwhelmed, especially since planning the route is my responsibility on this outing. But the goal is to map a path to exit the east side.

IMPORTANT: Trying to keep it as cheap as possible; basically just cool stuff to look at as we walk across the length of the park. Meaning I'd have no interest (on this day, anyway) in stopping for tea, or visiting a disc golf course, or an archery range, etc...things like that. But totally looking for things like impressive trees and flowers, ponds/lakes, crossing bridges, waterfalls, cool buildings, and sculptures, etc.

Anyone have an ideal route to take through the park to hit your favorite spots?

Then once I get out the other side, walk to Japantown and have an early dinner, then probably catch a cab/rideshare to Balboa Theater for a free birthday movie at 7:30p.

I know it's a lot of walking. We're used to it (including long distances in the city), and it won't be an issue.

Free birthday perks?

Howdy y'all,

My birthday is coming up, and my free birthday reward emails have started to trickle in, so I thought I'd crowd-source some ideas for other perks I could claim.

I think I've got national/regional chains down, but would like to learn more about local business that I may not be aware of.

And, yes. While I take advantage of every free bonus, I also do visit these businesses through the year as well.

I'll note that I've got zero problem signing up for email/text notifications to get something worthwhile.

I'm also open to some that require a purchase, as long as the deal is *at least* "buy one get one free".

Yes, I'm aware of the "hack" to give different birthdates for each one to get free food every month, but I enjoy the spectacle/event of the one big birthday few-weeks-bash.

Here's that I've got so far:

  • Cheesecake factory
    • free slice with any purchase, even just a side of like $2 strawberry glaze, or a $3.50 loaf of their brown bread.
  • Red Robin
    • Free milkshake, or if you've spent at least $10 once in the previous year up to the month before your birthday, you get a free burger with $5 purchase in the same transaction. Plus you earn points for the money you spent earlier, and every few years you'll also just earn another free burger's worth of points.
  • Habit Burger and Grill
    • Free Charburger, no purchase necessary. If you like Habit, they regularly have "buy one get one" promos, and even the occasional "free burger" promos.
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes
    • One free bundtlet, no purchase necessary. They also regularly have BOGO promos.
  • La Salsa
    • Buy one get one free burritos (though I'll probably skip this one...it works out at half price, but even at half price, their burritos haven't been very good to even be worth wasting a lunch on one for, like, $8 after tax).
  • Noah's NY Bagels
    • Free egg sandwich (of any kind, i think, even the pricey ones like the Maplehouse, which I got last year) with any purchase
  • Jersey Mike's
    • Free sandwich if you've purchased a regular sub at all in the previous year.
  • Krisy Kreme
    • 3 free glazed doughnuts with purchase
  • Wendy's
    • Free small frosty with purchase
  • Then I think there's something small from McDonald's, Panda Express, and Sarku Japan, but I think those are probably just discounts, or a small thing like free fries with a larger purchase.

Crumble used to give you one cookie's worth of reward points, but now you only get a free cookie if you've spent $45 with them (to earn 500 points, to reach the Silver tier) over the last year.

After a recent patriotic paint job, our local landmark is now even more appropriate for this sub

In some lighting situations/times of day, all you can see is "THE INDUSTRIAL CITY"

Why do so many restaurants serve only 3/4 of a waffle? These hotos are just a few of the restaurants local to me. (only 1st is my own photo, the rest are from Yelp)

Soundcore A30: setting alarm without buds connected?

I just got the Soundcore A30 Special.

Am I stupid, or is there no way to set an alarm without the earbuds connected? Like, if I'm out-and-about and make plans and want to set an alarm while I'm thinking of it, will I have to set a reminder for me to set an alarm...that doesnt seem right.

And if I use my phone's alarm, I won't hear it through the buds if I use the "switch to local when sleep detected" mode...right?

Thanks for any clarificatio/advice

Has anyone ever upgraded the motor in their 13" 18v mower?

I love this little rabid chihuahua, but it does get bogged down sometimes. Does anyone know of any motors that could be drop-in upgrades? Especially if they are brushless.

And, yes...upgrading this 13" lawnmower does make more sense than trading up to the 16" brushless, because I do actually get benefit with the 13" width, where the 16" wouldn't fit. 😄

I've had access to the Gizmoplex since the beginning, starting with the S13 kickstarter access, but it's always seemed like a confusing mess that I could never spend enough mental bandwidth to wrap my monkey brain around.

Could someone help make sure that I've downloaded everything available to download?

OK, so:

  1. Classic episode downloads,
    1. I have all of them downloaded that I can, ignoring the ones that looked lower-res or compressed worse than the .avi I have had on spinning rust since 2015 from "sailing the high seas".
  2. Classic episodes that were upscaled and with new cast intros
    1. Are these available for download? If so, how do I find them?
    2. I see something called "The Deluxe Collection", but they don't seem any different than the other versions. Were these just a curated selection made just for a certain Kickstarter tier, but no different than the regularly available episodes?
  3. S100 "Post-Screening Q&A with Joel and the Cast"
    1. It was a Q&A livestream after the premiere of 1101
      1. Seems like this was only ever available to stream, not download.
  4. S13 new episodes and shorts.
    1. These, I got.
  5. Season 13 "Replay" episodes
    1. These were the "premier" livestreams, with cast chats afterwards.
      1. Are these disappearing? They appear to be "stream only."
  6. "A Tribute to..." classic episodes
    1. Classic episodes with new shorts, like "Cavalcade" riffed by Pearl Forrester and Dr. Erhardt added before Secret Agent Super Dragon.
      1. Are these also going away? They also seem to be "stream only".
  7. The "Jackbox Showdowns" with former and then-current cast members
    1. Not saying these would be a frequent re-watch, but merely for those content completionists...are these also disappearing?
  8. The "RiffTrax Goes to the Gizmoplex" special
    1. This was a combo of the standard full-length riff of the Gumby Movie, a teaser ad for their Rad live show kickstarter, a new live-on-stream riffing by RiffTrax, and then live chat.
      1. Is this going away as well?

Am I missing anything?

[EDIT: Oh, is the Backer Wall of Fame gone? Looks like the virtual theater is already gone, and I just realized I never got a screenshot of my name in there. I must've missed talk about the the theater going away before.

Some things like:

  • Wax/waxed paper is not the same as parchment paper.
  • Evaporated milk and condensed milk are not the same thing.
  • Coconut milk and coconut water are not the same thing.
  • Cutting sugar can have major effect on texture because sugar also helps baked deserts retain moisture, not just sweetness.
  • The middle number on your stovetop's burner knob may not be a "medium" cooking temperature, which can also change a lot while the dish cooks.
  • If there's no space between ingredients in a pan or on a sheet pan, the water can't escape so food steams rather than browns.
