Algebra 1 as a Freshman

Is taking alg1 as a freshman bad?? The other option my school gives as a freshman is geometry but only if they’ve been advanced since middle school (I had good grades throughout middle school but never got recommended). If i’m shooting for a good school maybe for bio/pre med, am I behind??
Btw, I cannot just take it over the summer bc I lived in NY so I would have to double up and take the regents (state mandated test) the following year.

Sports in HS

Is it okay to not play sports in high school if you’re trying to reach for a competitive school? I have played tennis so far for 4ish years but I haven’t tried out for my high school tennis team for a few reasons.

  1. Over summer, i do not play tennis and since girls tryouts are in early fall, I lose my skill and weaken my chances
  2. In my school, coaches are strict on making tryout deadlines.. if you don’t make the first day, you can’t participate (I only come back from vacation a day or two after tryouts started)
I play tennis but I don’t go to big competitions.. is it even worthy to put on my transcript?

GPA Mishap

My guidance counselor (or whatever/whoever puts together my transcript) updated my freshman year overall averages on my transcript but it’s wrong. All my averages were 90+ (same with regents) but my total unweighted GPA accumulated to an 88.9. Additionally, I did take some honors courses but it doesn’t show that I took it in the column for where you can take either an honor or AP version of a class. Also, it says my biology regents is a 99 when I got a 92. I have already emailed my guidance counselor a few days ago about some schedule inquiries but she hasn’t responded yet.

For reference, I go to a HS right outside of NYC.

GPA Question

What’s a good, solid GPA to have as a freshman (now incoming sophomore) aiming to top schools (not necessarily ivy leagues)? My school calculates GPA on a 100-point scale and taking APs/honors courses would not boost the overall GPA.

Am I supposed to have all my regents back by now?

I still have not gotten my LS Biology and Global 10 Regents back while it appears everyone else in my grade has gotten theirs (and people outside of my school too). I have already emailed my biology teacher and he has yet to respond. Isn’t it also the last day of regents rating? Everyone should have all their regents by now..

For reference, I live right outside of NYC so there’s no portal for me to check.

Sophomore Year Schedule Rigor???

Is this rigorous enough for a good college? Should I use a slot for AP CSP or Studio Art (high school credit)?

Question on AP Classes throughout high school

Im currently a freshman (have not taken any APs yet) deciding my sophomore year schedule and I will be taking AP World and AP CSP. Is it more reasonable to take Studio Art 1 (for credit) or AP CSP (offered every other year)?

If I do take AP CSP sophomore year, I wouldn’t be able to take AP Psych, etc. junior year and I would most likely take one ap (APUSH) /possibly AP Lang

Then senior year I would take AP Euro, AP French, AP Bio (or any other science class), and possibly AP Lit

What should I do???

Help Choosing Between 2 Majors

Hi! Based off the title, you can already see my problem: I cannot choose between an english/history/classics-associated major or a pre med-associated major. I have a good amount of extracurricular in both and I don’t know what to choose. I want to get into a T30 but I’m also projected to take Pre-Calc senior year even though Calculus is offered, which I feel might ruin my chances for good pre-med schools.

For English: I have extracurriculars like my school newspaper and being in honors english/social studies classes (I will try to join english competitions further in the school year)

For Pre-Med: Im shadowing a dentist this summer and will look into volunteering at a hospital. Im also in Pre-Med club so I hopefully might be an officer. Additionally, I have already done and continue to do research through high school (3 years without a mentor, 1 with mentor). My classes for math/science aren’t that rigorous currently (i’m a freshman) but sophomore year they will be honors courses.

I cannot tell

Since the beginning of this school year, we realized we have a weird amount of classes together, so we talk a lot because of school stuff. Every time we get a test back, he’s literally the first person to text me asking what I got. He’s honestly really funny, and talking to him feels easy, but at the same time I can never tell if he actually likes me or if I’m just another person he talks to during class.

What makes it more confusing is that his ex broke up with him exactly a year ago because she lost feelings even though he still liked her. Back in September, my friend asked him about her and apparently he still did. Ever since I found that out, I’ve had this feeling that part of him is still stuck there, and sometimes it feels like no matter how much we talk, I’m still standing in the shadow of someone he hasn’t fully moved on from.

We make eye contact a lot and have those random little conversations during school, but then other times he acts so uninterested, like he’ll just keep playing games on his phone or iPad while I’m talking. Even texting was confusing at first because he used to answer like seven hours later even though he was obviously online. Now he replies within a few minutes, which honestly made me overthink everything even more because it felt like such a small change but somehow meant a lot to me.

And the annoying part is that after a breakup, people always say feelings fade with time, but sometimes it feels like his feelings for her just settled quietly instead of disappearing. I can’t tell if he’s moving on, holding on, or if I’m reading too much into everything
