Zwift freezes during workouts (1 have 2 monitors setup)

UPDATE 19/08/2026:

Solution: Windows mode and thats it. 0 issues i the last session of 1 hr.

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange issue with Zwift during structured workouts.

I’m using two monitors, and while I’m doing a workout, Zwift sometimes completely freezes. The interesting part is that the app doesn’t actually crash.

If I click on my second monitor and then click back on the Zwift window, it immediately starts working again.

There’s another interesting detail: when I click back on the Zwift window, the workout UI/function bar also appears again — the bar with the emojis, workout controls, buttons to increase/decrease the workout intensity, etc.

So basically:

  • Zwift is running normally.
  • During a workout, the screen suddenly freezes.
  • I click on another monitor/window.
  • I click back on Zwift.
  • Zwift immediately responds again and continues normally.

I’ve already disabled screen capture/recording, but the problem still happens.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Zwift and a dual-monitor setup?

Could this be related to Windows focus, fullscreen/borderless mode, GPU settings, or hardware acceleration?

Any suggestions on what settings I should check would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Can I prepare for a 134 km / 1,780 m Letap Argentina ?

Hi there!! Beginner here looking for advice: I'm considering L'Étape Argentina 2027 (134 km / 1,780 m) as my first Gran Fondo. I'm 38, 89 kg, recently started road cycling and my current FTP is 181 W.

I have a young baby, so realistically I can train 45–60 min, 4–5 days during the week, mostly indoors on a KICKR CORE 2, plus one longer outdoor ride on the weekend.

Do you think this is enough time to prepare to simply finish the event by April, or would you wait another year? If it's realistic, what would you prioritize: lots of Z2, increasing weekend long rides, climbing, intervals, etc.?

Not looking to race — just want to finish the 134 km / 1,780 m safely.

Beginner preparing for first 134 km / 1,780 m Gran Fondo – training advice?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to road cycling and want to finish my first big event:

L'Étape Argentina 2027 – Córdoba, April 4th

134 km / +1,780 m elevation, starting at 7:00 AM. There are time limits around 10:30 at km 51.5 and 12:00 at the Sprint, with the finish/road closure around 13:00–14:00.

The main challenge is Camino del Cuadrado, around km 30–55.

Map of the Race

Elevation map

I'm 38, 1.84 m, 89 kg. I used to commute on a MTB and have just started road cycling. My first FTP test was 181 W.

I have a Wahoo KICKR CORE 2 + Garmin Edge 1050 + 4iiii power meter.

I also have a young baby, so my plan is roughly 45/60 min indoor training on weekdays and one longer outdoor ride on Saturday/Sunday.

I'm looking for advice on how to progress from beginner to being able to comfortably finish this distance and elevation.

What would you recommend for weekly training, long rides, climbing and indoor workouts? Any good plans or platforms you'd recommend?

Thanks!

Beginner training for L'Étape Argentina 2027 – 134 km / 1,780 m

Hi everyone!

I'm a beginner road cyclist and my goal is to finish L'Étape Argentina 2027 in Córdoba on April 4th.

The long route is:

  • 🚴 134 km
  • ⛰️ +1,780 m elevation
  • 🕖 Start: 7:00 AM
  • ⏱️ Time limits: around 10:30 at km 51.5 and 12:00 at the Sprint
  • 🏁 Finish/road closure: approximately 13:00–14:00

The main climb is Camino del Cuadrado, around km 30–55.

I currently have a Wahoo KICKR CORE 2, Garmin Edge 1050 and 4iiii power meter, and my first FTP test gave me 181 W.

Map of the Race

Elevation map

I have a young baby, so weekdays are difficult. My idea is to do ~45/60 min on Zwift during the week, around 5 days if possible, and one longer outdoor ride on the weekend.

What would you recommend for training?

  • Is there a good Zwift plan for a beginner preparing for a 134 km / 1,780 m event?
  • How should I structure the short weekday sessions?
  • How should I progressively increase my weekend distance/elevation?
  • Should I specifically train for the long Camino del Cuadrado climb?
  • Are there other platforms/plans you would recommend?

Thanks!

¡Gracias!

KICKR CORE 2 compatibility with Shimano 105 12-speed (11-34T) + Zwift Cog question

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice before buying a Wahoo KICKR CORE 2.

I have a Specialized Tarmac SL7 with Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed, and I want to make sure I choose the correct CORE 2 configuration.

My drivetrain is:

  • Shimano 105 Mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 11-34T cassette
  • 50/34 crankset
  • Shimano SLX M7100 12-speed chain
  • 12x142mm rear thru-axle
  • Disc brakes

I’m currently seeing two options:

1. KICKR CORE 2 + Zwift Cog
2. KICKR CORE 2 + standard cassette

My questions are:

  1. Is the KICKR CORE 2 fully compatible with my Tarmac SL7 / 12x142mm rear axle?
  2. If I buy the Zwift Cog version, can I later remove the Cog and install a normal Shimano 12-speed cassette?
  3. Is there anything else I need to purchase to do that?
  4. Would my Shimano 105 12-speed 11-34 cassette work correctly on the CORE 2?
  5. Is there any reason I should choose a different cassette size for indoor training?
  6. Does the Zwift Cog create any limitations when using ROUVY, TrainerRoad or other platforms?
  7. If I plan to use multiple platforms, would you recommend simply installing a physical 12-speed cassette and avoiding the Cog?

I already have:

  • Garmin Edge 1050
  • Garmin Forerunner 970
  • 4iiii left-side power meter

So I’d also like to use the KICKR with my Garmin ecosystem and potentially Zwift/ROUVY.

I’m completely new to indoor cycling, so I’d appreciate advice from people who have actually used the CORE 2 with Shimano 12-speed.

Thanks!

KICKR CORE 2 + Zwift Cog: any limitations with ROUVY? Shimano 105 12-speed

Hi!

I’m considering buying a Wahoo KICKR CORE 2 for indoor training, but I’m unsure whether I should get the version with the Zwift Cog or install a standard Shimano 12-speed cassette.

I have a Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed road bike with an 11-34T cassette.

I understand that the Zwift Cog is designed primarily around Zwift and its virtual shifting system, but I’m interested in using ROUVY as well, and potentially other platforms in the future.

So I’d really appreciate some clarification from people actually using this setup:

  • Does the Zwift Cog work properly with ROUVY?
  • Can I use the normal mechanical shifting on my Shimano 105 12-speed bike while riding on ROUVY?
  • Are there any limitations compared with having a normal 12-speed cassette installed?
  • If I buy the CORE 2 with Zwift Cog, can I later remove it and install a Shimano 12-speed cassette?
  • Would you recommend buying the Zwift Cog version anyway, or is a physical 12-speed cassette the better choice if I want to use multiple platforms?
  • Is there any reason to prefer an 11-34 cassette on the trainer versus another 12-speed cassette?

I already have a Garmin Edge 1050 and a 4iiii left-side power meter, and my main goal is structured training rather than only virtual racing.

Bike specs

Specialized Tarmac SL7

  • Shimano 105 Mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 11-34T cassette
  • 50/34 crankset
  • 12x142mm rear thru-axle
  • Disc brakes
  • DT R470 wheels

The KICKR CORE 2 seems like a great option, but I don't want to buy the Zwift Cog and then discover that it creates unnecessary limitations with ROUVY or other platforms.

Thanks for any advice!

KICKR CORE 2: Zwift Cog or 12-speed cassette for Shimano 105?

Hi everyone!

I’m new to indoor cycling and I’m looking to buy my first direct-drive smart trainer. I’m currently considering the Wahoo KICKR CORE 2, but I’m not sure whether I should get the Zwift Cog version or the standard cassette version.

My bike has a Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed drivetrain with an 11-34T cassette.

My main questions are:

  • Is the Zwift Cog worth it if I mainly use Zwift?
  • What are the actual advantages of the Cog compared with installing my own Shimano 12-speed cassette?
  • If I buy the Zwift Cog version now, can I replace it later with a standard 12-speed cassette?
  • Is the Cog something that I can easily remove/replace myself?
  • Does the Cog provide any significant advantage for someone who only has one 12-speed road bike?
  • Would you personally buy the CORE 2 + Zwift Cog or the CORE 2 + physical 12-speed cassette?

I also have a Garmin Edge 1050 and a 4iiii left-side power meter, so I’m interested in using the trainer with Garmin as well.

My bike

Specialized Tarmac SL7

  • Shimano 105 Mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 11-34T cassette
  • 50/34 crankset
  • 12x142mm rear thru-axle
  • Disc brakes
  • DT R470 rear wheel

I’m buying the trainer mainly for structured indoor training, but I’d also like to use Zwift for riding/racing with other people.

Thanks!

Looking for a good price-to-performance smart trainer for my Shimano 105 12-speed Tarmac SL7

Hi everyone!

I’m new to road cycling and I’m looking to buy my first direct-drive smart trainer for indoor training (4 yaers old boy and 9 month baby, so i will train while they sleep).

I live in Argentina, so trainers are quite expensive here. I’m looking for something with a good price-to-performance ratio, rather than necessarily buying the most expensive option.

I was initially looking at the Wahoo KICKR CORE 2, but I have some doubts about the cassette/Zwift Cog options.

My bike has a Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed drivetrain with an 11-34T cassette.

As far as I understand, the CORE 2 can come with either a traditional cassette setup or the Zwift Cog. My concern is that I’ve read that the Zwift Cog is mainly designed around Zwift and may have some limitations or compatibility issues with other platforms such as ROUVY, TrainerRoad, etc.

So I have a few questions:

  1. Would you recommend the KICKR CORE 2 for my bike?
  2. Is the Zwift Cog actually limited in any meaningful way when using platforms other than Zwift?
  3. Would it be better to buy the CORE 2 with the Zwift Cog and later install a Shimano 12-speed cassette?
  4. If I buy the version with the Zwift Cog, can I easily replace it with a standard 12-speed cassette later?
  5. Would you recommend another direct-drive smart trainer with better price/performance that works well with Shimano 105 12-speed?
  6. Is there any particular trainer I should avoid with my setup?

I already have a Garmin Edge 1050, Garmin 970 and a 4iiii left-side power meter, so I’d also like to use the trainer with Garmin and potentially Zwift/ROUVY or other platforms.

Bike specs

Specialized Tarmac SL7

  • Frame: Tarmac SL7 FACT 9r Carbon, Rider First Engineered™, Win Tunnel Engineered, Clean Routing, Threaded BB, 12x142mm thru-axle, flat-mount disc
  • Fork: FACT Carbon, 12x100mm thru-axle, flat-mount disc
  • Shifters: Shimano 105, 12-speed Mechanical
  • Rear derailleur: Shimano 105, 12-speed Mechanical
  • Cassette: Shimano 105, 12-speed, 11-34T
  • Chain: Shimano SLX M7100, 12-speed
  • Crankset: 50/34T
  • Bottom bracket: Shimano Threaded BSA BB
  • Brakes: Shimano 105 Hydraulic Disc
  • Front/Rear wheels: DT R470 Disc
  • Tires: Specialized Turbo Pro 700×26
  • Seatpost: S-Works Tarmac Carbon, 20mm offset
  • Stem: Tarmac integrated stem, 6-degree
  • Handlebar: Specialized Shallow Drop, 70x125mm, 31.8mm clamp

I’d really appreciate recommendations from people who have actually used these trainers, especially with Shimano 12-speed and multiple indoor cycling platforms.

Thanks!

Bike computer recommendation after buying a Tarmac SL7 (already own a Garmin Forerunner 970)

Hi everyone!

I finally decided to buy a used 2025 Specialized Tarmac SL7 Sport, and I'm really excited about it.

Specs:

  • FACT 9r carbon frame
  • Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes
  • Carbon wheels
  • 4iiii left-side power meter
  • Size 56

I also already own a Garmin Forerunner 970, so I'll be able to record rides, navigate, and connect to the power meter with my watch.

I'm also planning to buy a Garmin HRM 200 or HRM600 chest strap, since I want to use it for both cycling and running.

Now I'm wondering if it's worth getting a dedicated bike computer as well.

My riding is mostly:

  • Medium endurance rides (50–100 km)
  • Climbing
  • Fast group rides
  • No racing (at least for now, maybe gonna do the letapthefrance here in Cordoba , Argentina but is on April 2027)

I don't necessarily need a Garmin unit since I already have the Forerunner 970, so I'm open to other brands if they offer better value.

Some models I'm considering are, and not wanna pay too much like :

  • Garmin Edge 540
  • Magene C606
  • iGPSPORT BSC300T
  • Any other recommendations?

Would you buy a bike computer in my situation, or would you just use the Forerunner 970?

If you think it's worth buying one, which model offers the best balance between price, features, navigation, and power meter integration?

I'd love to hear your recommendations and experiences.

Thanks! 🚴

Advice on picking a new Bike Used vs New

I'm looking for some advice on which bike you would choose.

I have three options. I know these prices may seem high compared to the US or Europe, but I'm in Argentina, where imported bikes and components are significantly more expensive due to import taxes, duties, and other local costs.

Option 1 – Used 2025 Specialized Tarmac SL7 Sport (~USD 3,020)

  • FACT 9r carbon frame
  • Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes
  • Carbon wheelset (Profile Design)
  • Carbon seatpost
  • 4iiii left-side power meter
  • Size 56
  • Excellent condition, no crashes, no damage, no visible defects

Option 2 – Brand new 2026 Specialized Allez Comp (~USD 2,280)

  • Aluminum frame
  • Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes
  • Stock aluminum wheels

The bike itself costs about ARS 3.4 million (around USD 2,280), but my plan would be to upgrade it with a quality carbon wheelset in the future. A decent set of carbon wheels costs around ARS 1.8 million (about USD 1,200) here in Argentina, so the total investment would end up being very close to the price of the used Tarmac.

I would probably add a power meter later as well.

Option 3 – Brand new Specialized Tarmac SL7 Sport (~USD 3,350)

  • FACT 9r carbon frame
  • Shimano 105 mechanical 12-speed
  • Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes
  • Stock DT R470 aluminum wheels
  • No power meter

This bike costs about ARS 4.99 million (around USD 3,350). It already stretches my budget, so I probably wouldn't upgrade the wheels or add a power meter for quite a while.

My riding

I mostly do long endurance rides (100–200 km / 60–125 miles), climbing, and fast group rides. I don't race, but I enjoy riding hard and I'm looking for a bike that I'll keep for many years.

Which option would you choose and why?

  1. A lightly used Tarmac SL7 with carbon wheels and a 4iiii power meter.
  2. A brand-new Allez Comp and upgrade it over time with carbon wheels and eventually a power meter.
  3. A brand-new Tarmac SL7 Sport with stock aluminum wheels and no upgrades.

Anyone using this screen protector on the Garmin Forerunner 970? Worth it?

Hey everyone,

I found this TPU/silicone-style screen protector case for the Garmin Forerunner 970 and I’m wondering if anyone here has actually used it.

Does it help protect the watch without making it feel bulky or ruining the touchscreen/display quality?

I mainly use my watch for running and gym workouts, so I’m trying to decide if it’s actually useful or just unnecessary extra plastic.

Would love to hear:

  • durability over time
  • touch sensitivity
  • visibility in sunlight
  • comfort during workouts
  • whether it traps dust/moisture

Would you buy it again? Thanks!
