How do you actually find a job in this market? I genuinely feel lost.
I’m genuinely trying to understand how people are actually finding and getting jobs in the current Indian job market.
My biggest problem is that Instagram/LinkedIn is flooded with reels and posts saying “X company is hiring”, “100+ openings”, “DM for referral”, etc. There seem to be hundreds of opportunities online, but when I actually apply, I barely get shortlisted.
I’ve tried:
- Applying through Naukri
- Indeed
- Company career pages
- Asking seniors/alumni for referrals
- Reaching out to people in my network
But so far, referrals haven’t really worked out either, and my applications mostly disappear without even reaching the interview stage.
For context, I’m currently working at a Big 4 and joined only about a month ago. The problem is that I’m not enjoying the role/work I’m doing and I’m already looking to switch to something that is a better fit for my career and also offers better compensation.
I know someone will probably say, “You just joined, give it time,” but I’m specifically looking for advice on how to approach the job search itself, because I genuinely don’t understand what actually works anymore.
Where are people actually finding legitimate openings that are hiring?
Do recruiters still actively shortlist candidates through Naukri/LinkedIn applications, or is most hiring happening through referrals and direct outreach?
For people who have successfully switched jobs recently in 2026, what did your actual process look like?
- Where did you find the job?
- How many applications did it take to get interviews?
- Did referrals actually make a difference?
- Did you directly message recruiters/hiring managers?
- Did you use any platforms other than Naukri, LinkedIn and Indeed?
- How do you distinguish between genuine openings and the hundreds of reposted/viral job posts on social media?
- If you're already employed, how did you explain switching after only a short time?
I’m not looking for motivational advice or “keep applying”. I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from people who have recently gotten interviews/offers and can explain exactly what they did.
I feel like I’m missing something fundamental about how hiring actually works right now.
