I’m trying to replace a storm door on the side of my house. Believe it or not the measurements are about 29” by 73”. I can not find anything that size online. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or am I going to have to go with someone making a custom door?
Have loved Bryan’s early albums since I was a kid. Reckless was the first tape that made me commit myself to rock and roll, haha.

I don’t have much to add in commentary, quite frankly most of the math and concepts are beyond my arts-degree brain. However, the article does a great job of showing, once again, how disingenuous OpenAI and other AI labs are in describing what their products are doing.
They basically want the headlines that their new models are “solving math,” but what they’re doing is plagiarizing other peoples’ research and claiming things have been moved forward. There is clearly a use case here for researchers in using an LLM to catalogue and evaluate large swaths of data from over periods of time, but these things don’t think, they aren’t creating anything, and OpenAI doesn’t give a shit as long as people see the headline and bow their heads to their new scI-fi god.

Second: this is not necessarily about AI, but I think this article does a great job cataloguing a similar instance of oafs making grand proclamations about impossible technological futures and the ensuing glazing they got from mainstream media. Reading these quotes and headlines regarding our inevitable trips to the moon and mars sound nearly identical to the crap we see about LLMs every day in our current hellscape.
There were similar vague plans and detail-free descriptions of how this future would happen, similar liars trying to catch whatever investment capital they could, and similar articles written with zero pushback.
The author highlights that when these timelines and technological achievements failed to come true, no one followed up on them. I am really hoping that changes in our AI hype cycle - someone had better fucking ask Dario/Altman and the rest why 50% of jobs haven’t disappeared. I know no one will but holy hell - I want to see the sputtering and retconning of their bullshit in real time as they try to justify why they weren’t lying their asses off about the capabilities of LLMs the whole time.

Some background - about 2 years ago, one of the two major hospitals in Akron, Ohio (Summa Health, pronounced sooma) announced that they intended to be sold to a private equity firm. There was a ton of local resistance and skepticism, but of course none of it mattered. The rich people go their way and now an investment firm owns not only the largest provider of behavioral health services but also the county's biggest employer.
The immediate issue was that they intended (and have succeeded) in converting the health system from being a nonprofit to a for-profit entity. This caused a massive problem, since nearly every healthcare professional has student loans. If you work for a nonprofit for 10 years (and make 10 yrs of payments) you can have the rest of your loans forgiven. Now that Summa is a for-profit org, no one working there is eligible for student loan forgiveness.
But the main reason I'm posting this here is that from the beginning they have mentioned AI in ever press release and public statement - with all of the standard lack of details or use cases or actual specifics to explain how AI would revolutionize health care.
Well, now we know! According to the local paper, the hospital will be using the following "tech stack":
So they aren't piloting just one, or two AI programs, but at least 7. Still vague, but at least we have some names.
Here are some questions I would love to ask the owners, General Catalyst:
- How will patients know when and how AI is being used in their treatment? Can they refuse it?
- Can employees opt out of using AI (hahahahaha....i know the answer to this).
- How do private and public insurance companies view AI usage? What happens if AI makes a mistake? Is that covered by malpractice insurance? Does the fault lie with the individual using AI, the AI company, or the hospital?
I don't see any future where this doesn't lead to some kind of disaster, for patients and the hospital itself.
So much of the modern animal welfare movement comes straight from Silicon Valley. This is not good for lots of reasons, but here are a few:
1.5 This is bad because most of Americans couldn’t give a shit about either of these movements and it just makes it harder for people to care about the cause of treating animals better.
2.1 The Silicon Valley funders probably have AI investments, and so they are strongly encouraging animal rights nonprofits to go all-in on LLM adoption without any regard to future costs or data protection. I’ve heard people say that if you’re not using AI, you’re not a true believer in the cause.
2.2 There is a huge grift involving “AI Welfare” research, where people are being funded to sit around and pontificate about what might happen if AI gets feelings, and how it should be included in the same work as animal advocacy. There are conferences and discussions lumping AI and Animal Welfare together. We can’t even get most human to give a shit about cows, and now we‘re going to ask them they should care about LLMs, too?
2.3 The crux of this Substack post: there is a fanatical belief amongst the animal rights world that there is an enormous and generational influx of philanthropic funding coming from Anthropic employees. It’s talked about in meetings and conferences as though this is a foregone conclusion - orgs are positioning themselves to absorb “hundreds of millions of dollars” when Anthropic goes public or something. People state, without any evidence, that Anthropic employees have committed to giving away “x percent” of their wealth to animal rights causes. I’ve never found any statements or written pieces backing this up, and I’ve tried (but am willing to be corrected).
This infuriates me because as an animal rights believer, AI has threaded its gross tentacles throughout every facet of it - from insane discussions of how to protect ai agent consciousness to daylong conference sessions held discussing AI potential and the ensuing funding windfall that are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS devoid of any and all examples, details, case studies, or real world logic.
This is probably a niche argument here but if you look at this Substack piece, it’s just one of MANY that treat the future economic golden age as an inevitability. While she gives some words to “who knows how much will flow into the space,” there is an entire movement basing its current activities on a future everyone is just assuming will happen thanks to the power of rich idiots in Silicon Valley.
Getting people to care about animals had barely moved the needle in decades…I doubt wrapping it up in AI is going to help its popularity grow.

Ed and Nik were spot on this week. I recently worked for a nonprofit based in the Bay Area. So much of our ecosystem was funded from Silicon Valley bros and if you said a single word in doubt of AI, Open Claw, AGI, whatever, people looked at you like you were old, out of touch and sadly behind the times.
I went to conferences where emissaries from “nonprofit AI think tanks” basically sat us in a room and told us in order to help the world more with our nonprofits we needed to insert AI into every possible workflow to 10x our output. Not a single use case, no metrics, no examples. Just pure hype with no backup. But they all repped people who had access to capital and so all of us had to sit there and nod along.
When I asked one of the “AI experts” how a nonprofit was supposed to budget for AI usage with the looming threat of being charged on a per-usage basis, I was told, in these exact words “while that’s a valid concern, in reality you can’t afford NOT to be using AI whenever possible.”
I‘ve had losers try to sell me MLM bullshit before, and this felt 100% the same. All hyperbole, all future tense, no concrete examples, no data. Just people trying to sell you on the horseshit they already gobbled up.
Hey all - been on prescription TRT for about a year. Last blood test had me at 737 for my test levels.
I work out nearly every day (for about 30+ minutes with weights) and I run about 10 miles a week. Have seen some benefits for sure but am looking to maximize them. 30 minutes a day of weights is about all I can manage with life responsibilities So adding gym time will be tough.
However I do work from home, so I could certainly add some extra muscle building moves throughout the day.
Aside from that, are there supplements or anything else I could try to boost the benefits and gains I’m getting? Yes, I could google but figured I would hit this sub first.
Note: I’ve tried creatine twice and it seemed to wreck my stomach both times, but maybe I messed it up somehow.

I’m not super familiar with this publication but the info seems solid. And backs up a ton of what Ed and a few others have mentioned regarding how this endless cycle of bullshit is being funded.

Hey all - huge thrash fan. I play guitar and love learning thrash songs. I’ve learned a lot of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Expdus, Xentrix…wondering what some other really challenging songs or albums to learn. Not super interested in learning leads, but always love learning complex riffs and songs that give my hands a workout.
Suggest away! Bonus if there is reliable sheet music available, though I know that’s a tall ask.
My first guitar was a Squire Bullet Strat in 1994. Since then the neck has been replaced (the original literally fell apart). Since I have sentimental feelings towards what’s left of it, I’m thinking of upgrading the pickups. I’m not really a gear hound, so am looking for recs of pickups that could make this once-shoddily made guitar sound as good as possible. It actually plays great!
Finally, the perfect use case for Generative AI: making LLM generated pictures of your fake-ass 55th birthday party and then posting them while pretending to be your proud mother.

This Facebook page is a local news page in my old hometown. Their posts rarely get more than 30-ish comments. They tried some engagement bait regarding their use of AI, and they’re up to 630+ comments, almost universally cooking them. I guess they got what they wantes?
People really hate this shit.
I don’t have much to add here, but it’s a great article giving more context to the story we’ve been hearing for weeks: that companies are continuing to attempt control over AI spend after first shoving it down their employees‘ throats.
One thing jumped out to me: the idea that Accenture pressured their clients to adopt AI as quickly as possible and are now positioning themselves as consultants to reign in AI spend sure feels like when pharmaceutical companies got everyone hooked on opioids and then sold them them Suboxone when they were trying to quit.
Are these people really dumb, in a cult, or jist desperate for any new wrinkle in their money losing machines?
If somehow someone could prove chatbots have emotions (how would you prove that?) the reasonable thing would be to STOP USING THEM. How does that benefit any of these Four Losers of the Slopocalypse?
Small anecdote here - i live in the Midwest and while listening to sports talk radio this morning, heard a commercial specifically aimed at recruiting people whose children have been harmed by social media.
The commercials basically said “if your child has experienced addiction to social media apps like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat or has suffered from mental health disorders stemming from the use of these apps, you may be entitled to compensation.”
Usually the only kinds of ads I hear that sound like this are for class action suits against pharmaceutical companies. I found this pretty fascinating, I’ll be honest.
