In my mathematics PhD, it's pretty common. Many times I meet a PhD student who won't miss a chance to flex their math knowledge or academic career, and start every conversation with the most generic information possible. However, they have no reputable discoveries nor any papers in a decent journal. At a conference, someone I hardly know wanted to give me advice on how to "improve like him," while he spent his presentation trying to convince everyone that the problem he came up with and solved in a very abstract case of a certain quartic field, using brute force, is actually interesting.

I'm a Moroccan PhD student, and I attended as a speaker at a conference in Oujda, Morocco, that took place last May.

I have many comments, but the main one is Africa's unprecedented presence in academia.

I attended talks given by African academics and had the chance to discuss with African scholars, especially from Senegalese universities. I can safely say it wasn't child's play, it was serious and really interesting mathematics, and possibly groundbreaking work by local African universities. It was mostly linked to cryptography and elliptic curves, which are extremely vital in the tech world. I can safely say that African investment in academia is paying off.

It honestly seemed like a breath of fresh air after all the online drama started by people who enjoy the dopamine rush of Reddit upvotes, and people for some weird reason desperately trying to push a narrative of an imaginary rift between Morocco and the rest of Africa, or how Africa is doomed to fall behind. Moroccan universities have really strong ties with the African universities especially when it comes to publishing and Academia.

The reality is that, while the continent still faces many challenges, it shows unprecedented potential and hope to thrive, not just in basic education, but higher education that can produce highly educated scholars.

I work in arithmetic geometry and a lot of my recent results are conditioned on the motivic Riemann hypothesis. Motive theory is supposed to be a mathematical analogue of string theory and serve as a "theory of everything" through unifying many mathematical fields. At its center is the motivic Riemann hypothesis for a more general class of L-functions.

My question is: can anyone give me some very interesting examples of the use of the Riemann hypothesis in physics, including recent ones? And are there any physics questions where we're interested in the Riemann hypothesis for a more general class of L-functions rather than just Riemann zeta function?

Reddit is a highly dangerous place full of creeps and pedos. A single post on teen subs exposes you to the worst scums of society. These "teen" subs are like online versions of Epstein Island and a safe haven for every predator to attract mentally immature teenagers.

There is a whole sub dedicated to the support of convicted sex offenders on the same platform, even if it's mostly for advice and support, it gives you an idea of the type of people on Reddit.

Lot of people active on teen subs aren't even teens. We all know the experiment of how r/drama mods decided to ban anyone highly active on r/teenagers, only to receive DMs from countless 30- to 40-year-old men.

Now with generative AI, you can generate practically infinite inappropriate pics from a single selfie or picture. If a kid shares a selfie, a random guy with a phone can fill his gallery with an endless amount of nasty pics and spread them online. Lot of such subs don't have rules against sharing personal pics and even encourage it.

If the mods were truly teens, how can you entrust teen mods with the safety of countless underage members while they still haven't earned most civil rights? From the rumors I heard, lot of them seem to prefer dealing with childish drama rather than cracking on predators.
