Yoshida illustrates this point with an episode from the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. As an advisor to Kepler Interactive, Yoshida played a demo of the game about two years prior to its launch. He was immediately impressed by the combat, which he describes as a "combination of turn-based JRPG mechanics and real-time action inputs reminiscent of The Legend of Dragoon" (which he was the producer of).
However, despite being personally impressed by the gameplay, Yoshida observed a tendency for turn-based JRPGs to be dismissed as outdated at the time, so he advised the developers at Sandfall Interactive not to label it as one. "It's incredibly well-made, but it would be better not to call it a turn-based RPG. That alone might cause players to overlook it." Consequently, the branding was adjusted to terms like "reactive turn-based battles."
"I can ask the AI to give me 75 different variations of one thing, but I cannot have 75 different illustrators come up with a variation in three seconds. This is the world in which we're living, and while we were this small team and building [the game], we put it in. We didn't even realise it was AI any more because we were used to seeing it."

As reported by GameWatch, Konami recently held a lecture titled “The Art of Producing Silent Hill” at Japan’s CEDEC 2026, where series producer Motoi Okamoto and other key development team members shared insights about the making of Silent Hill 2’s remake and the latest Silent Hill f.
Of note, Okamoto expressed the opinion that when it comes to games where narrative plays a crucial role, it’s essential for the producer to read books. Even more so, he considers it imperative for a producer to have read the majority of a writer’s body of work if commissioning them for the game’s scenario. This is, according to Okamoto, not only a matter of “basic respect,” but also necessary for understanding the writer’s style and various quirks, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Since every writer is capable of producing both hits and misses, he considers it the responsibility of the project’s decision-maker to fully understand the writer’s characteristics and actively engage with them.
Citing the importance of “input” for creating games, Okamoto mentions that, “within the team, we put pressure on each other, especially among the scenario writers, to read at least 100 to 200 books a year” (referring specifically to novels).
After 15 years, Resident Evil 5 is no longer the highest-selling entry in Capcom's survival horror series, the publisher has revealed.
New sales figures for the Resident Evil franchise show its sales crown has now been taken by the Resident Evil 2 remake, which has now shifted 19.75 million copies — enough to slip past Resident Evil 5's final total of 19.01 million.
Veteran game director and self-confessed movie buff Hideo Kojima revealed that he’d like to pass away in a movie theater, just as the film itself is about to start. The 62-year-old made the comment at a film festival in Rome earlier this month, and recently shared a clip of the moment on his official X account.
>“I’ve always thought that when I die, I would like to die in a movie theater,” Kojima said in Japanese, as translated by IGN. He goes on to explain that “I love the bit before the movie starts the most. Enter the movie theater, the lights go off and commercials and trailers play, yeah? I’d like to die just before the movie starts.”
Kojima delivered this declaration in a serious tone but with a hint of a smile. The Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator is, after all, a prolific cinemaphile, proclaiming on his X account profile that 70% of his body is made up of movies.
This isn't the first time Kojima has spoken about his own death. Last year, hot on the heels of revealing a number of discarded video game ideas and even an idea for a ‘Forgetting Game’ where the main character gradually forgets important information and abilities if you take too long a break from playing, Kojima said he had left his staff a USB stick of game ideas for after he dies.
